sad news

A few mins ago I read on another site that a Rosarito media station has contacted the US Coast Guard about the boat which had washed ashore there. They sent photos to positively id the boat as the Pelican. No one was found on board.

Josh is my cousin and I am currently in Ohio. I was wondering about the condition of the boat, was it dead in the water or still running. Also I heard a report that they might have been spotted in a local city. Any truth to that?

With all the drug activity in Mexico and the constant smuggling of illegals into our country, this really doesn't sound good for this couple. I hope they were not hijacked.

Yep, I am afraid that you have hit the nail on the head here. The waters off San Diego between the border and Oceanside have become highways for illegal activities- they probably crossed paths with the wrong folks. Its too terrible to contemplate- and maddening, too. My condolences to friends and family.

Please give these two your good thoughts and prayers. We now have two countries resources in the search. Negitive comments are not helpful.

To all those recommending posting only "helpful and supportive comments". This is a public forum open to everyone and to all pertinent comments on this story. If you are in search of an exclusive friends and family forum- you have come to the wrong place. Sorry. Again, my condolences to all friends and family.

That the boat was so soon in Rosarito, there may be two issues. The couple may be held for ransom. A demand may be made. The Coast Guard guys should have immediately enlisted the help of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol. Any small general aircraft would have beaten the bad guys to Rosarito. For my part, the search was called off too soon, but the point is moot now. Since no radio alarm was sounded, the bad guys must have used the ruse of trouble with their own craft, and then hiijacked the crew of two. Once aboard, who knows? Maybe there will be a ransom demand yet but it would need to be handled by U.S. authorities if possible. That only Mexicans can examine the boat is a disadvantage. They do not have the equipment to collect evidence. Is there any chance of getting a powerful political figure to step in and talk to the Mexicans?

I hope it was a kidnapping but the boat has auto-pilot and if they fell off it would have cruised away without them ever being able to catch it. I fished many weekends with him and he was never careless, but they were crazy in love and if the worst has happened I can only think they got a little too frisky at the wrong time and somehow got overboard. I'm still in a kind of shock, no-one ever fell off the boat in 100's of trips, and the chances are we will never have a definitive answer to this missing at sea.

I have pictures of the boat being well guarded by the Mexican army. It is located practically in front of my home at Rosarito beach. I has no damage whatsoever and it is packed with large fish which appears dry-out by the elements. The number of the boat is very clear and is 39074. I am sorry for the family.

It has a good number of fish on it. I took pictures of the boat and has the number identifying your cousin's boat. It is well in the sand showing no distress. It is very sad.
