City Council working on rail noise issue
M Editor Emporia's City Council, on Tuesday, was urged to revisit the issue of train horns and do what it could to get the noise to stop.

The city can ask for an exemption. Train horns at 100 feet away from the track can only be so loud, I think it's 100db. Most of the trains that come through are terribly loud, more than 100db, it scares my wife and grandchildren. The whistle marker shows for 2 longs, one short and then one long. Some trains are ignoring this by blowing constantly through Emporia. Our crossings are well marked and don't need horns to be blown. Pass a city ordnance for trains: CSX and AMTRACK to stop blowing horns or do not allow them to pass through Emporia town limits.
