HOLTON More than a dozen people accused in an identity theft ring have been charged with fraud and forgery, Attorney General Steve Six said Thursday.
Six said 15 people were arrested Tuesday in Holton as part of a joint investigation by his office and the Kansas Department of Revenue's Criminal Investigation Unit. The investigation, dubbed "Operation Impostor," targeted people using stolen identification documents to obtain Kansas driver's licenses.
The revenue's division of motor vehicles is seeing more fraudulent driver's license applications where the applicant presents genuine birth certificates and other identification that were actually issued to another person, Six said. In this scenario, the impostor typically buys a set of authentic documents off the street in order to unlawfully secure a driver's license or identification card. This allows them to work under the victim's name, as well as open bank accounts and commit identity theft-related crimes.
"This type of crime impacts victims in many ways," Six said. "When an impostor gets documents made based on the victim's identity, they can obtain employment, credit, mortgages and engage in other transactions, Six said. "My office and the Department of Revenue take these crimes very seriously."
Six said it is becoming more common for impostors to be arrested and convicted for unrelated crimes using the victim's name, making it possible for an innocent victim to end up with a criminal record as a result of the impostor's illegal behavior.....

Helluva list! Several from Emporia too. Yeah, castaway, I'm with you. Dang!

I'd be curious to know if any of these people are illegal immigrants or if they are natural citizens. I say that because if they are illegals, I'm more angry than ever that they could come here illegally to begin with then engage in this kind of criminal behavior. Will Kansas get really tough with these *&^%$#@,or will all this fall between the cracks because our sentencing guidelines are so lax? We need to throw the book at these idiots.

Wow! everyone of them has atleast a half a dozen names and apparently no respect for this country and it's laws what so ever. You would think that if you felt so strongly about leaving your native country to go to one that offers you a better life that you would respect and love the "land of oppurtunity". I guess not. I know that there are a lot of immigrants(like my grand parents the Folkstiens) that come here looking for a better life and they assimilate and respect the laws but since they do so you never hear much from them. We always hear about these........ criminals.
