We've all had bad times at Wally-World, but where else, that we do NOT expect poor service, have you been mistreated as a customer?

Genesis Health Club. These people call more than bill collectors do wanting me to join their gym. They've called damn near everyday for 6 months straight. I've answered it on accident a couple times and told them I'm not interested and hung up, but they still like to try and call me. Pretty creepy bunch of people working at that place.:/

I guess this probably doesn't count since I'm not an actual "customer".

Damn near every place/business in Emporia would fit in this choice. The owners and employees in this town will take a look at you first and then make the decision if they want to get OFF THIER FAT ASSES to help you, don't go into a business with worn or ditry clothes, "dirty from WORKING!", they will not as you of even try to help you. One of the WORST of these businesses is, MARK 11 LUMBER! they have this short stupid guy who hangs out behind the counter, he will NEVER ask if he can help you, and if you ask him for help, he acts like he is pissed off, the hell with them, I shop at southerlands now,(unless I know I will be going to Topeka in a couple of days). I put up with his shit for a couple of years, only because I liked the owners, but if they don't see how he is, they dont need my money.

Sutherlands is cheaper than Mark II on 90% of things anyway, and they have better help, and better looking cashiers.

But at Mark II you can always get that self-righteous 12-step unsolicitous advice from that indignant short lady that doesn't know there are 12 step meetings for over-eaters as well. It is not illegal to drink a beer or two. It is only illegal to be over the limit. Never having been, in my opinion, she has crossed THAT line. Not good for business. I no longer shop there. But she has saved the world. (at least in her mind-altered mind)

The Gazette and a couple car dealerships deserve to be on this list too.

How 'bout that fine personable service we get at the courthouse renewing or transferring plates; right up there with the Water Department window. Municipal, city, or county workers are the bottom of the barrel, but then again, they were only hired through nepotism or personal favor.

MileHigh, I agree with you totally. Both the Courthouse and water department need to hire better looking employees. I wouldn't mind a tax increase as long as I was paying it to a younger woman with a nice rack. Maybe the banks already hired all the knockouts.

And how in the hell did Newman Regional Death Center not make this list yet? From the ER all the way up to 4th floor is full of hateful people. There are definitley exceptions, and they know who they are because they apologize to patients when their coworkers are bitches.

And on a side note, I was in the ER a few months back and in the 3 hours I was there, people came in for shortness of breath, cramps, headache, and one guy with an ingrown toenail. WTF is wrong with people?

Emporia businesses are staffed by Emporia's citizens.

Every towns businesses are staffed by its citizens, but that's not the topic. It's about which businesses hire the rudest, dumbest people they can find and allow these people to act the way they do while running their businesses.

Newman's is a perfect example of the rudest, Sears is a perfect example of the dumbest, The Emporia Gazette is a perfect example of both.

It's good that Emporia's "good" business are more plentiful than the "bad" ones. J's Carryout, Bad ol Burns, L&L Pets, Coaches, Bruffs, Staples, Bluestem, True Value, Sutherlands, and many more are all awesome places. It took some thinking to come up with the bad ones.

This town SUCKS when it comes to customer appreciation; the old ladies tax service by the courthouse is THE worst on 5th. As soon as you leave, your personal info is topic at the break room. NEVER! NEVER! Don't give your personal, financial info to that effeminate guy (the employee) or his prodigal effigy. I could only excuse it if he were getting something on the side; but who would want that? Why are there not professional people in professions?

The pool of polite, intelligent people in Emporia is a shallow one. You mostly get neither attribute or only one.

New one!! Got quote for screen- came in at 150% at low end of quote, 133% at high end of quote. Was even told, when I SPECIFICALLY asked about labor costs, that labor was included. Was then told it was just an estimate and that they needed exact sizes to give an accurate quote. If they didn't have exact sizes then how could they have made me my screen?!? Avoid!; as we all do anyways, yet when so many people and companies are competing for employment and customers, we are stuck with those that prefer empty parking lots and fewer patrons. Makes their day easier, I guess. I could have walked and refused to pay an inflated price, but I stood up to my end of the transaction. Had they done the same I would be a repeat customer instead of a ex.

WALMART AT CHRISTMAS TIME

this aint about walmart itself, its about the damn people/animals/pigs/stinking people who go the to do something , shop, steal, eat food, or whatever.

the funnest is the fat-sloppy ugly women who wear a tank top to show off their new tattoos, you know the ones that are ossing of puss because they had them done here in emporia, by the filth who run the shops in emporia.

Just today there was a woman, who was to damn lazy to take her stained blue pajamas off and get dressed! Hey tramp if your reading this you looked like shit! And what the hell was with the rubber boots with the flowers on them, oh I did get a picture of your funk, I am sure it will be something that will be forewarded sometime.

Just today when I had emptyed my basket, I offered it to some, probably illegal to use in the store, but hell no, she was just to fu$king lazy to push it to the store, and beleive me the fat ass bitch needed something to lean on.

Ok, now walmart, Randy, what the hell is with all the ugly damn people working there, half of them dont look legal to be in the USA, and thier damn attuides suck, one bitch was sweeping a lane in the rug area yeaterday, I HAD to get the hell out of her damn way!! If I spoke spanish, I would of told here to go back to mexico. Next time I go there I am going to wear my BORDER PATROL hat, that will clean your dirty store up Randy, Damn Randy, dont you ever go to other walmart stores??? maybe you need to and see that others managers keep their stores clean.

Back in the mid-90's, every grocery store except for Dillons tried to rip off the customers by having the cash register price higher than the store shelf price. When a person complained to the store managers the response was always it was an accidental mistake. If it was an accidental error, why was the price difference always in tne store's favor? Looked rigged to me.....Lived in nine different towns in my life....only in Emporia did I have to take a REALLY close look at the cash register receipt every time I shopped.

My goodness, what are any of you complainers doing to make your town better?

Primarily, teaching my children how to think respectfully and then act respectfully toward others in big things and small. Also, using manners and politeness myself. Outside of that, there isn't much one can do. Thank you for asking, Donna.

The problems with customer service in Emporia is low paid part time workers who have no stake in the profits of the business they work for. They get 18 hours per week at $8.50 per hour in the Dollar General and another 20 hours per week at $7.45 per hour dipping french fries at the McDonald's. The businesses that have been mentioned as having good customer service are those businesses who are owner operated. There, the employees have a financial stake in the profits and so the customer service provided is a little better.
