How frickin' pathetic. These residents want to keep this from their own high school kids? And they're calling it a "stadium" - I seriously doubt it will be anything near a constructed stadium. A ball field with fencing, dugouts, bleachers and press box/concession stand - that seems more likely. These people need to grow up.

Emmaus has a long tradition of good baseball. The high school deserves
a quality field to play on. The word "stadium" has been used liberally. Let's
all get it straight....this will be a high school baseball field, not Citizen's Park Field!
Let's bring the team back into Emmaus where they belong!

Your kids can't have a decent baseball field on their campus, as they should, because your teachers and administrators tell you your first priority is their compensation. No dough left over for providing their own facility.

And you take it like a submissive puppy.

When you give them the power to dictate what gets spent where, and you don't live up to your responsibility to stay engaged, the pigs will do what comes naturally and suck up all the money.

And then, when you end up with solutions like this, you all whine and scream. What a bunch of maroons.

But, take heart. Most of the public are as simple as you all.

best part of the whole thing is when the camera pans out and then you see a total of 10 people protesting. what a rally. these people had a big meeting about what to do next on october 9th and this was all they could come up with. ha ha ha ha ha ha. otto is back to being the laughing stock of emmaus but at least he has a side show now.

i wonder why residents keep taking their signs out of their yards... hummm... could it be that they realize this is another otto prank.

i wondr how much tax payer money this man has wasted over the years. im sure he will sue about this project too.

1st Education is #1,(not an overpriced stadium to keep up with other school districts.
Obviously EMMAUS has become one of the worst places to live. Main Street has become a traffic nightmare. The town really doesn't care what residents have to say about anything. They do as they want not what the people want. GOT SIDEWALKS????

Finally someone who has complete solid reasoning reason and common sense Congrats CLEM. These protesters just should go away and go sit at the mall or play bingo

the problem here is evident even in the subtitle of this article--Some residents of Emmaus don't want their borough playing ball with the East Penn School District. you see, that implies that residents of emmaus are not part of the east penn school district. but they are part of the district--it's a community. it's a great community with a pretty decent school district. things could be worse.

These older protesters who can least afford having their finances decimated by their school board and teachers union should be spending their time to question why schoolboards are so afraid of teachers union and they want to give automatic pay increases when inflation is close to zero right now because of us being in the Obama Pelosi depression now.

Devildog78, you shouldn't speak about what you know nothing of... So I guess that means you shouldn't talk at all...

Down with donches, your the one that needs to get a life!

Emmaus "community" park is just that, a community park, not an Emmaus High School park. I am all for finding somewhere for them to play, but don't take a park that is used by everyone in the community.

Isn't Emmaus a community who prides themselves on just that? Being a community? So why would a group of people, who have worked hard to maintain one of the few truly small towns remaining in the country, not want to host its' own high school's baseball team? I've been to the park and it is beautiful. I also know that almost every weekend in the spring and summer it is jam packed with swimmers, walkers, sports teams and people who have rented the pavilions for all sorts of parties. If the district wants to essentially pay to renovate an existing field, which the community will be able to use when Emmaus Baseball season is over then what is the problem? Traffic? Come on, you have traffic from the park anyway. Crowds? Again, you already have crowds from the park. Or is it that having Emmaus play in Emmaus would mean you would have to deal with school buses filled with those bad inner-city Allentown and Dieruff kids coming in to your precious Emmaus? I say get over it, embrace that the district is willing to let the community keep their park and deal with having those "city kids" come in and use it!

So you're telling me it's going to be a brick & mortar facility with stadium seating and concourses? Come on, get real. Isn't there already a ball field there? Good for them if they want to spruce it up and let it be the home field for the high school team. If you didn't notice... it would be an IMPROVEMENT. Wasn't it noted somewhere that it would be available for use in the offseason? Remember folks, high schoolers don't play 162 game seasons!

As a resident of Emmaus, a truly great place to live, I just want to point out some "Facts" here.

The Emmaus HS team can play on the field if these few things are done.(PER PIAA) all that is actually needed is a "GRASS INFIELD". Even though the the council has stated differently. The council has already spent almost $60k on just the planning, some of which was a plan that included having funding of over $700,000 (combo of Greener Funds, School Board and Emmaus residents)

The truth is the huge amount of money needed was to make the field a "Tournament" field - NOT for the High School Kids (since if they were in a play off they couldn't play in their own home field) but was to make it a money generator for the EYA and The Legion Leagues. They can clear around $6K per tournament. Of course they get to use the field for free. With no consideration for the residents that will have to maintain it and deal with the traffic and parking in the neighborhoods in that area.(just visit the park on a weekend you'll see most of the parking lots have many cars in them even without an event going on.)

They would need to move home plate, the lights and erect a fence so it will qualify to hold "Tournaments".

Now understand the HS team only uses it two months a year. Regrading, drainage and sod would cost something, but not $700K.

The agreement (with the school board and Emmaus)that was written, even though the council says it doesn't, it states that the field can only be used with permission from the school board.(Read it yourself if you disagree) That might need to be addressed.

My thought is why in a town with such a high tax rate, current debt load and a school board that actually RAISED taxes this year, is it so important to build a "Stadium" (that's the council's word) that will benefit two non profit groups more then the HS?

The existing one could easily support the HS team with some modification that could and should be done, for a lot less money.

Mr. Donches has stated many times that the HS should play there, I agree with him and believe that a new plan that is reasonably priced and discussed with the residents FIRST be presented. The idea that the residents (TAX PAYERS) don't support the youth of Emmaus is quite absurd.

Its a shame that the money ($60K) spent on the existing plan was wasted since it is coming from a town that is paying nearly $530,000 a year (Interest and Principle of almost 10 more years) on the fund they are taking it from.

(So to say they are borrowing it is not quite right, they already borrowed it)
A town that is short on funds for management of the rest of the parks, streets and (pensions for police and staff)Remember this is a "BALL" field, to support game for "Kids".
I understand how this is "good" for the youth, not sure it's important to have the proposed "stadium" for them to have the experience of "Playing" A "Game" and learning the skills needed to be better adults.Mr Barrett stated in one of the meetings when I suggested it be down sized "So you are saying to do it Half A$$ed". I say to Mr Barrett, "If you can prove there is a difference if a kid can get a scholarship for that sport by playing on a PIAA certified field verse a PIAA Tournament field you might have a point."
But since we know that isn't what is important here Mr Barrett, you might address the issue of this isn't for the "Kids" it for the "Grown Ups" and now about saving face. 1200 names on a petition, that the council stated didn't matter based on some information provided by the council and interpretation in its wording. 1200 people the council thinks are too ignorant to understand the concept that they are going to build a new baseball field that will be used for tournament play and its using tax payer money?

Mr Neely, with all the press and packed town meetings do actually think, the 1200 folks on that petition don't know the facts? My question is how many have called you and asked to have their names removed?

Schools should drop all sports activities. Why should tax payers have to pay for this.Schools are putting to much into sports programs and not enough into a basic education.Kids in third world countries are getting a better education than the kids in the U.S. The U.S. is headed to third world status if where not there already.
