hey Delmonico, get a grip if the guys did this voluntarily then there should be no problem. This was something and most likely Dewey will ever receive again. To me it was not that big of a deal to carry out for the man,, so get a grip

OMG like the bomb squad had anything else to do! Like sitting at the donut counter? Gimme a break, this man deserved to see that happen. Good for them for making it happen!

Nice...even cops can't get along with each other. Someone takes the time to give the guy some time and his wish...and of course there has to be arguments over that. Very sad. The guy was in the line of duty and may die and instead gets to watch the union talk about how bad this was. I hope it was volunteer all the way...

I'm not sure Delmonico really has a problem with this. As the Police Federation guy, he has to question the department's use of personnel and resources, because some members of the bomb squad complained about it to him. He probably had to listen to two or three cops who didn't want to go the detonation, but went anyways because of peer pressure. They b**ched about it to him, and now he has to make it an official complaint.

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Thank you to Chris Dewey and the bomb squad.

To all critics- grow some eggs and appreciate those who keep us safe. Stand up for right and start shoving this "Political Correctness" up the *** of those who don't get it.

Thank you Erik for serving those who understand and unfortunately for those who don't.

It is so sad to see that there are people out there who will complain about anything just to be complaining. Chris will lose his life over his injuries sustained in the line of duty and here there are cops whining and complaining over his one wish...To those who made this wish possible you guys are amazing! What you did for the family is appreciated more than you know and to those that complained...just think...in a week you'll be at home with your family and friends and if the Dr's are correct...Chris will not! Get a life!

I believe it is an honor for the mpd to show their support and respect to a fellow officer and his wife for the sacrifices that they both have made since the day deputy dewey took an oath to protect and serve us (the good people and bad). To be part of something so personal is an honor. I would gladly pay any overtime that the city of MPLS has incurred - It is so sad that this would ever be an issue - think of the money that is wasted every day on criminals - really? could u stand up in front of Deputy dewey's family and complain? VERY SAD!!!

I am astonished and incredibly embarrassed that any of my colleagues in law enforcement would ever make any issue of granting a dying officer, who was injured in the line of duty, their wish. Delmonico- you should be ashamed and embarrassed that you made this comment to the media and if you're all for fighting for what's right.... you should have knocked out the guy or guys who allegedly came to you to complain about this. You shouldn't even be able to call yourself a cop, because it is clear that at heart you are not. If you're ever injured in the line of duty- we'll make sure that no one goes out of their way to do anything for you while you're spending your last days on earth.

Godspeed, Deputy Dewey.... my coworkers and I were talking about you today and one of them came up with the perfect word for you; warrior! You are a true warrior who has fought an amazing battle- now it's time for you to rest and go with God.

If anything I would say he's going to be with Satan. Choosing a Constitution violating "profession" like law enforcement is indicative of a couple things. One, a desire to control others through force, usually associated with sado-masochism. Two, "little man" syndrome, and a desire for revenge against society for being socially rejected by most of their peers. In addition to the psychological problems running rampant through "law enforcement" there is also the problem of using public funds for this little fiasco. When a city worker is injured fixing a road do we send them to Disney World if they so wish? No, we don't use public money for that. If the family wanted to spend their own money on the explosives and a couple of off duty bomb squad techs wanted to supervise it on their own time fine, but I don't want MY tax dollars going to give some sadist his dying wish. Believe it or not, police officers are no more deserving of special treatment then the trash man, the mail man, a public defender, or a EMT. You guys sit around patting each other on the back constantly bragging each other up like you're some demi gods. Putting your lives on the line? So what, I put my life on the line every time I commute to work, what's your point? Statistically a farmers job is more dangerous. So is a loggers, a fishermans, a mailman's, etc. This pig chose to work in the field he did, and due to the way you monsters have treated the public, many are choosing to shoot back at you rather than being shock tortured of summarily executed. It comes with the territory, he's no more deserving of any special treatment than anyone else who dies.
Do us a favor and get off your computer and go back to staring at the neighborhood kids through your mother's living room shades.

How predictable and pathetic. Union cops whining about having to work (if you call showing respect for one of your own "work").

At least they are consistent...MPD was way too busy to process my car for copious fingerprints left when my wife was carjacked at gunpoint.

But they managed to find a way to charge me for the tow and impound fees.

Whew...I thought they only talked on their cell phones to their girlfriends...after getting off the phones with their wives.
