Full story: Winona Daily News

I agree that violent 13 yr olds should be charged as adults in violent crimes. We are too easy on these offenders AND..... judges need to get tougher. I also support capital punishment, and people like John Gacy, where there is no doubt of guilt, should get 30 days to get their affairs in order and then execute them in that time frame. Over and done.

This law is absurd. 13 year olds can't drive, can't sign contracts, can't drink, and every psychological study I have read about it indicates that their sense of right and wrong is not fully developed. How is that we as a society can say that 13 year olds are not mentally developed enough to make decisions on their own, yet say they should be tried as an adult?.

I pose a simple question. If a 13 year old girl had consensual sex with a 19 year old boy, would you consider that statutory rape? The laws say yes, because they deem that a 13 year old cannot make such a decision. Yet in this instance it becomes so easy to say that he knew exactly what he was doing. Why such an inconsistency?

The boy in this case needs help, not imprisonment. If anyone should face criminal charges it is the care-giver.
