Hello everyone! I'm relocating with my family to Emerson GA in June. I was trying to get information about the school system and towns in the area..
I have 2 children ages 13 & 8. Is there gang problems to worry about in the area? Is my main concern. Thanks!!!

Your main concern is meth users stealing everything you have. Then you have your gangs wanting everything you have just because they want it. Stay out of Emerson, it's nothing but trash. Acworth is better.

Is that why they call Acworth, crackworth. Emerson is a nice small town. If you assocate with trashy people, then you will have problems. There are no gangs in Emerson. I moved here 10 years ago, have never had any problems, but I don't make friends with trashy people either. If you are a respectful family, you will not have any problems.

If you are going on this website looking for answers and opinions you are already off on the wrong foot and getting answers from the worst Bartow County has to offer. All of us here on this site are busy bodies, back stabbers, and basic outcasts. Do yourself a favor and keep driving.

I have no personal experience with the Emerson schools, but I do know people who teach there. From what I have been told, you do not want to put your kids in the Emerson schools. There are so many communities close to Emerson (as in 10-15 minutes) that I would definitely not restrict your housing search to Emerson. I would suggest Cartersville. Cartersville city schools have the same problems any public schools do, but overall, they are good schools with solid academics and would be your best public option in the area. Thinking ahead to high school I would not recommend Cass or Woodland from the input of friends who had their kids there. I presume you are mainly interested in the public schools. Another option is Excel Christian, a local private Christian school. The elementary and middle grades are still very good. The high school has been going through a rough patch that hopefully will be corrected with some new hires this summer. Good luck in your relocation.

keep going north on I-75 until you are completely out of Georgia. Then you will be okay.

Thanks for everyone's input, I was just hoping it would be a nice quiet community. I figured the best way to know is ask the people from the area!!! Because before I came here, the websites I was looking at praised Emerson as a good community with city access. Cartersville I think would be too big of a city for my family... Guess I have some decisions to make.

How big a community are you looking for? Cartersville is not at all what I would consider a big city, while offering a great deal to commend it. And there are numerous subdivisions that are located more "in the county" - though I would recommend paying the "fee" so that your children could go to the city schools if you ended up outside the city limits. If you haven't done so already, I would suggest you contact a realty office to get more information about Cartersville before striking it from your list. We have lived here over 15 years and love it.

Kris - Emerson is a small town and has that feel still for right now. Right off I-75 in Emerson they are building a huge sports complex. Look up Lakepoint Sports and you will see. It will include a movie theater, Bass Pro, lots of places to eat and plenty of things to do sporting wise. I expect the school systems may improve over time but like others suggest its best to pay the fee and send them to Cartersville City schools.
Doug's is a restaurant that has thrived in Emerson for decades, good old country cooking. There is a Dollar General and a couple of gas stations for now, Lakepoint will drastically improve your selection of places to eat and shop.
There is crime everywhere but my friends have lived in Emerson for 20 plus years with no trouble.

What is ironic is that I am from this area yet I died in December of 2009 in a frozen field after I was ejected from my car during a violent car crash. Since I died, I realize what a small world we do live in. Does this chill you to the bone? It probably does, but don't let that scare you away from Emerson.

I consider a small community to be a population of 6,000 or less. We live in a community of 3,000 now and really love the small town atmosphere with a larger city of 35,000 only being 15 mins away for convenience.
I never thought of contacting a realty office because we were looking to rent before we buy to make sure we like the area. But I'm definitely gonna do that!!! Thanks again everyone!
