I'll copy and paste from the article After an approximate six hour search in the wooded area around the residence of Sherry Wood of Elsberry local authorities ceased the search. At 4 p.m. another call came into dispatch regarding shoes found along the flooded river near the Hwy. P levee in Pike County. At which time local authorities and the Elsberry Fire Department District responded. According to local athorities footprints were found at the scene and are consistent in the way Wood's walks due to physical constraint. Approximately 20 feet from were the footprints were found, authorities stated that they turned into what would be considered crawl marks with no tracks leading back out.
