Thank you for that informational follow up article Mark.

I happened upon the accident minutes after it happened. The dusky street was lit with blinking emergency lights from the many police cars. Onlookers lined the street. The paramedics were busy at their truck. The Harley was laying in the Grand Avenue south lane with its headlight still on. The forks were gone.

Motorcycle riding is dangerous business. The streets are not like thirty years ago when I could count at any given time no more than four cars at the Mannheim and Grand intersection when the light was red.

It only takes a few cars to put a cyclist's road perceptions into circuit overload. Riding a motorcycle is not even fun when one is put into that position. How does a cyclist perceive a person on a cell phone or blackberry?

Grand Avenue from Mannheim east to 25th is dangerous. Many strip malls and more cars exiting without warning. If a car pulls out quickly from a blind corner a driver might not be able to react in time. Cyclists will find these conditions in hundreds of other communities.

We hope Michael will recover from the coma. We send our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Michael.

Thank you so much we really appreciate it and we pray everyday for him to get better and heal. The doctors had done surgery after surgery and the one time he had a fever and they decided to do another which in the end left him brain dead.

Everyone is acting like this guy is a saint. He wasn't at all. He was a jerk behind belief. He was on his cellphone while speeding on his motorcycle. I feel bad what happened to him but I also think the way his family judges people and the way he was it camr back as karma. I only hope when he dies he can rest in peace. All the people he did things to hopefully won't haunt him in death. I personally think he has suffered enough. They have him on life support. How sad. He's brain dead. He's dead time to pull the plug. But good riddens. Hopefully the family will learn from this and start living thier lifes a little different . Money isn't everything. Being mean and judgemental isn't cool either. Just a f.y.i. your family isn't that geeat. What have they really accomplished for you to judge others. NOTHING. You need to all get iver yourself and hopefully be better people.

I've personally seen old woman texting on Mannheim with their heads completely buried into the phones. I rode for seventeen years and was rear ended by a girl texting in villa park, after that I just bought a sports car and never rode again. It used to be that if you were a good rider that expected morons you'd be ok, nowadays it's just suicide. People who text and drive should lose their license for six months or something drastic, I'm a phone junky personally, but I never text and drive, it's UNREAL how unsafe it is today.
