There was no 'sexual crime' involved, Mike. The 20-year-old woman (let's stop calling her a girl) willingly participated with guys she already knew. Believe me, I would be just as upset as you if it were any other way.

Please don't get nasty on me now, Mike. It's inappropriate, to say the least, bringing my sweetheart into it like that.
It appears that we're on the same wave length as far as the young woman is concerned, trying to protect her reputation and all. I got it from a very reliable source, not a participant but someone close to the guys involved, that it was consensual.
I don't know about you, but it makes me feel better that no force or coercion was used in the incident. I do not know any details about any punishment that might have been handed out because it took place inside the firehouse. But we can't hold it against our mayor to handle a touchy subject like he did.

Couldn't the drill team accident that happened in Elmont just as easily occur here in Sea Cliff? It is a 'sport' that is fun to watch for spectators. It is quite gruelling and dangerous for the participants.
It takes a lot of practice, just where the Elmont volunteers were when their accident took place. Is the instant thrill of it worth the possibility of serious head injury which one of the Elmont guys suffered?
Fire departments around Long Island feel almost obligated to take part in these events. The accceptance of peers take a valid part in the decision to have such a drill team. It is costly and takes money, is the Village of Sea Cliff paying for it with taxpayers' money?
All of these factors should be considered if a fire department is to have a team. There is also statewide thinking that perhaps the events are too 'rough' and 'not worth holding.' Perhaps the State of New York should investigate. Scrapes and scratches are plentiful and playful. Head injuries can cause permanent damage or death.
Meanwhile, village officials everywhere should look into it and decide whether the fire drill team events are worth it.
To many fire fighters would be having sex in the firehouse, they would'nt want to hurt themselfs.

I take it, Mike, that you have changed your name to Joey Bag of Donuts for the purpose of this thread. Funny, I have a friend who calls me that from the movie.

Again, the firehouse incident was a blight on the Sea Cliff Fire Department because of six raucous guys taking advantge of a young woman.

But, in looking closer, it was not as terrible a thing as I first thought, mainly because the female involved participated freely with guys she grew up with.

Long island Fire districts more like Knights of Columbus hall then fire fighting. They have over 100 members in each fire house, they all collect insurance, pensions and retirement from this volunteer job, and get reduced taxess much as 30% on Home property taxes. Sounds more like full time pay Long islander pay and we have no say in what happens or where money is spent.

For your time you deserve every benifit and than some, but to have six Volleys use the firehouse for a drunken sex encounter like the SEA CLIFF DEPT. did and still have them as members is wrong and a disgrace. There are many fire depts allover Long Island that the people are proud and honered to have you protect them and there property. We all thank you.

I agree drunken firemen are a big problem in allot of these fire houses. No one overseas what is going on in these fire houses. They are like Boys clubs and they do what they want to do. We pay for buildings, equipment, heat and water, but they have all the say how tax funds are spend and have no accountability and no one looking over their shouklder to see what they do and why?

I say hundreds of millions of tax money is waisted on Fire Depratments across Long Island.

Sea cliff thats what happens at 80% of these fire houses, I been to other fire houses for bachelor parties that were like frat parties with hookers and strippers many times. Beer is the main source of water for these fire houses, with high end Bars and Catering halls.

They refuse to let outsiders rent this high end halls, but tax payers paid for them to be built. Members keep the funds generated from the rental to members and family members of members and use this as a piggy bank for fun for volleys on Long Island.

No longer considered Volunteer Fireman around LI, they chill in Lavish and over the top firehouses with bars, pool tables, kegs and taps on call. The Volleys around LI get so many perks they no practically get paid for doing noting. Large Pensions, Large retirements, Free College, 30% reduction in homes taxes, Free Insurance, Free 1 week vacations paid every year, they get old equipment that was never used that tax payers funded and use of catering halls and large Banquet halls in these over the top fire houses for FREE. They even get college credits now, for being A,B or C Volley on LI NY

I know this is an old topic but free college? Wrong- Large retirements? Wrong- large pensions? Wrong.

Know your facts before you spout off. If you served in a department you would have never posted it. Our department you get a pension if you want to call it of $20/month for every year that you served and start collecting it at 55. So if you served from the ages of 18-55 that's a whopping $740 a month. The 20 a month will never be increased and in the grand scheme of things us that are/were anti drill team racing that actually fought most of the fires the town had and responded to most of those heart attack calls for those years earned it. Also the drinking has been brought under wraps in a lot of departments. BUT I will say about the drinking and fun had in nice firehouses:

Yes, they built lavish, over the too houses with high end kitchens, gyms and lounges-- that's because of a word in the English language called MORAL- the members run into burning houses for free- they respond to your frantic call for an ambulance for an ailing family member for free- by free I mean they don't get a paycheck monthly or bi monthly. Now if you expect people that most times work at least 1 full time if not 1 full time 1 part time jobs to live here to spend their spare time no matter the time of morning, night or day the alarm comes in to continue doing it for the 3 or 4 small perks they get for risking everything- even if only a couple of fires a year they make you have to give them something nice to have as a reward. You'd expect the same.

Get over the money spent on firehouses. If you're so pissed off a out this- join, become part of those tanks, do the 100+ hours of training in the first year netween working and the bathe rotations each year of fire training and recertification training at the fire academy as well as making 24 meetings a year and enjoy the perks the firefighters do. Until you do that 2 words for ya------steifel Edith.

Typos- argh.

I meant to say join the ranks.

And do both the mandatory fore training rotations a year as well as recertifications- for for and such.

Just join your local department and see what it's really like at times. Yes there are parties but there are more than ones fair share of responsibilities as well.
