I cannot believe that this editorial was actually printed in the Vacaville Reporter!!! This is the most insulting thing I have ever read! I don't care which "SIDE" of Vacaville you live on, it's all the same town. We are all Vacaville residents. My parents moved to Vacaville before you were even born, Danny Bernardini, and they have lived on the South side from day one. So, because you live on the "North Side" that makes you better than the rest of us? That's what it sounds like you're trying to say. And it's funny how you mentioned that North side residents hear silence, and those on the South hear sirens. What a bunch of BS! I no longer live in Vacaville, but my parents still do, and they live in a very good neighborhood. I cannot remember the last time I've heard sirens when I was at their house. Check your facts, cause there is crime all over this town!!! And it just so happens that the NORTH SIDE is having a lot of police activity these days, A LOT more than the South side.... See for yourself: http://www.localcrimenews.com/crime-map.php... . As for the editor of this paper, shame on you for printing such an insulting and disrespectful article!!! The Vacaville Reporter tries to have a "bring the community together" type of image...well you blew it by printing this one! Nice way to piss off half of your subscribers! By the way, my parents, who have had a subscription to this paper since the mid 70's, have decided to cancel their subscription indefinitely.

Bernardini: how old are you?
This is juvenile, self-centered, non-thinking writing.

Oh, simmer down, Angry. Danny didn't mean any harm. He's like all of us northerners - we love our side of town. I've never lived on the south side and never will. There ARE some very nice areas on the south side, but not many. He's probably talking about Elmira Road and all those ugly apartment complexes scattered around there. Also, Angry, Danny didn't write an editorial. It's called a column. It's his opinion. He can write pretty much anything he wants. Welcome home, Danny!

Laughing at the two comments ahead of mine.:)) I enjoyed your column, Danny and understood what you were saying (I think.) lol
When you grow up in a certain area of town and then move across town, it just doesn't feel right. Your roots are where you started out. It's like you've tried to transplant yourself and it doesn't work.
You're happy to get back where you started because the hills are in the right place and the trees look the way you used to seeing them, and the streets wind around correctly. The sun comes up and goes down right where it should because that's how it was when you were a kid.
If you had grown up on the South side, you'd feel odd on the North side. I wish people understood that so they'd stop fussing and feeling bad about what you wrote.
I loved your column. Made me smile.

His OPINION has made a lot of people angry. And I have an opinion too, so no need to tell me to simmer down. Take your nose out of the air and show a little respect for the other people who live in this town. YOU should be ashamed of yourself!

Danny Wonder Boy thinks that ALL of the south is junk and ALL of the north is wonderful.
Hey, Danny Boy, your logic is flawed. You apparently lived in a bad part of the south. You apparently moved to a nice part of the north. You are extrapolating: "one part of the south is bad; one part of the north is good; therefore, all of the south is bad and all of the north is good."
By the way, why did you move to a bad part of the south, if you have spent a lot of time in Vacaville and should know better?
I urge you to walk along the bad parts of Monte Vista late at night. Or, why don't you move into one of the apartments near there that are really bad?

Danny, you imply that South Vacaville is run down and full of crime? What a joke! Take a nice walk down the Brown & Callen Street area tonight and write another column about it next week if you survive. So you've moved away from South Vacaville? Good riddance!

LOL! When I first laid eyes on Vacaville back "then" as a teen, all I wanted was to go back to the beach area I came from. Wasn't long before I found out what magic there was in those hills, the beautiful homes, minus those crappy apartments on Monte Vista, and that gorgeous drive to the lake. VV wasn't ghetto back in the very late 70s early 80s. New Fairmont was "better" than OLD Fairmont at one point. Now it's all looking like Fayfeel (which has always sucked) on the south side. Take a cruise down Nut Tree to Alamo and all the way around, what do you see? Would you feel safe walking over by the Southwood area at night? Look at the apartments down Elmira, that's scary at night! Hairnets on the head finally made it north.....face it, California gets more ghetto every year. Get in your car right now, drive over to the one of the convenience stores on Elmira, or Alamo, and tell me what you see...
I loved what he's written here.

Oh PLlllllllllllllllleeeeeeeese! People! Danny is a person who moved HOME after being AWAY! He's glad to be HOME AGAIN! It is only that and you citizens on Vacaville's Southside should just laugh it off. No place on Earth is as good as your old stompin' grounds.
SHEEEEEESH! Let it go. Danny's column was one of his best.

wtf??!!! ive lived on BOTH sides, and honestly the northside sucks ass. sure its not as windy, and ill admit it is quieter (probably due to the over abundance of baby boomers & uptight money bags), but the nice neighborhoods are so fucking far from everything, and anything closer is shitfully ghetto (which is just about everything from orchard/monte vista all the way down to the bowling alley). taco jalisco and food fair are horrible too. im on the south side and love it. it doesnt take 15 minutes to get to the damn freeway, i can actually walk to many different stores, there are 3 different park within a couple blocks, in my opinion people seem friendlier and not so uptight over here, and yesss, the retail- just about everything is close by.

You should stop now, cause you are really making yourself look like a complete ass. My whole reason for replying to this this in the first place is because I am NOT ashamed of living on this side of town. We are all a part of the same community. We all live in VACAVILLE. There is no "NORTH" in your address.

Danny Bernardini is a journalist and writers do this sometimes to give readers a jolt. Another journalistic technique is to write symbolically. Now, people, are we going to be duped into going nuts over an essay?
This is what Creative Writing courses teach writers to do. It is very eye-catching and certainly raises the blood pressure of the public.
So just grin and let it slide on by. It's nothing but words done with finesse. I liked Danny's column and when I read it I thought "Hey! Good job! Fine writing!"

lol This column that Bernardini wrote is a journalist take that we might compare to the Balloon Boy hoax. Sure gets attention, doesn't it? Laughing...
I really admire Danny and enjoyed the column he wrote awhile back about his memories of Old Vacaville. Sure, he's glad to be back on the old side of town. Why not?

It's obvious that you have nothing better to do than sit and stare at your computer screen all day, commenting on Vacaville Reporter columns and articles. I expected that there would be others in agreement with Danny, but I had no idea that ignorant people like you were still walking among us. Did you notice that your opinion is the only one I'm at odds with? I wonder why??? So, I will just ignore you from this point on...but before I do, since you found the need to correct me in my first post, I will show you the same courtesy. It's "you're", not "your" screaming like a little girl. ;)
