Wow, this is such a tragedy.
its awful that no one noticed that the kid was going through hard times before he went to this level of insanity. I feel bad for the family of the young boy. They should put a 100 foot fense up on the bridge so no one else can jump you think they could learn after 4 people have already jumped./

Just so you know His name was Mark Thomas and he was one of my best friends. You don't need to be saying stupid shit like that about a dead person.

STOCKTON SPRINGS (Oct 10): Mark "Buddy" "Markie" Thomas Jr. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. We are mourning the loss of a child taken too soon. However, Markie would want us to remember him for who he was. Markie was many things to many people. He had a way to make you laugh, just when you needed it.

Born April 18, 1994, in Greenville Junction, he had been on the go since the time he was able to walk.

He was a freshman at Searsport High School and was also enrolled at Waldo County Technical Center. He was a school athlete participating in baseball and cross-country. Many friends and family loved him. He was a very smart and capable young man. Markie was talented with his hands and he held a natural ability to disassemble and repair many things that were offered to him to work with. He also enjoyed racing and working on his stockcar, which he competed with in the Teen Thunder Division at Unity Raceway.

He spent his youngest years doing things with his dad that the average child would not have done so young. Markie was on the road, shifting trucks and hanging out with his dad in the woods, logging. He was all boy; he loved working in the garage. He had excellent mechanical ability for someone his age. He spent hours working directly with his dad and was learning to become a mechanic himself. He learned to drive very early, this he very much enjoyed.

Markie was an inventor of sorts; he could make things from scrap that amazed everyone who knew him. Two summers ago, he had the opportunity to race at Unity. Markie spent hours with his dad making the parts necessary, with Mark Sr., and being responsible for helping install them into his then Toyota. He was grateful to Junior who aided his cause by giving the safety seat needed to finish his project.

If Markie wanted something he found ways to make it happen. He had a great bargaining ability; we often found ourselves aiding his cause because he could make it make sense. He would be done with one project and be dreaming of the next. He was a young man who needed to be busy with his hands. He was forever tinkering with electrical equipment just so he could understand how it worked. He could install complicated sound systems by age 13. Driving was one of his favorite things to do. He was blessed that this was possible for him. He would drive every day on the lot. He was actively working on fixing up what he called "my great gas mileage car." He was very interesting to watch, one day he had it all zupped up with a loud muffler and the next you could barely hear his car rounding the bend of the drive. Markie's favorite car was the Chevy Camaro. He had two; one for parts, one, which he was fixing to sell, both he primered all by himself. He was actively working on his Nissan. He was planning on keeping it for when he received his permit next year. He was looking forward to this. We talked about it often.

We recently talked of the future, his plans, his dreams. He was planning on college, a possible visit to Maine Maritime, and keeping a garage for the five cars he planned on having. He took long rides with his family, exploring and learning.

He had a very stubborn side, but you could talk to him, taking rides in the ramp truck, we had the privilege of watching him operate this piece of equipment. Whenever there was something going on, he was right there to be a part of it.

Most of all, he loved his family, his sisters, Stephanie, Liz and Kim. They are forever bonded in life together; each one has a different story to tell. He was not afraid to hug them or cry with them, he was not afraid to challenge life. He had so many opportunities. He had a short life, but he would want you to know that he lived, he laughed, he enjoyed his friends and family, and that he knows that we will never forget him.

No-one, don't fall for Desi's taunting. For some reason he or she seems to relish hurting others. Desi did the same thing to us when we lost Harrison. Just know that Mark is in a better place and that he would want you to morn the loss and make yourself a better person for having known him. The grieving process in long and hard, but you do learn so much in that process. Know that there are many of us out here who are praying for you and all of Mark's loved ones. No one can take the pain away, but there are so many that can help you get through it. Seek comfort and support with those who like you love and miss Mark. God bless you No-one!

The boy whos name is mark thomas. was a good friend of mine. he was always here for anyone who needed help. i really wish someone could have stopped him.=[ rest in peace mark we wont forget you.
if mark had seen all the tears the day after he jumped at school i swear to god he probably would have come back to us. its been over a month and everyone still cries
If tears could build a stair case, and memorize could clear the lane id make my way to heaven and bring you home again.

Hard times come and hard times go. But please remember, suicide lasts forever. When a person takes their own life, it hurts the ones they love the most. It even hurts the ones who don't know the person. We only get one chance in this life, don't throw it away over something that, later on in life, will seem trivial. Live and learn and keep on.

I was vacationing in Maine when Mark jumped. I stopped at the Penobscot Bridge to go up the tower. I saw the dive teams in the water but just assumed it was a training exercise. Then I learned when I got to the top that a teenage boy had jumped the day before. Back in PA, I've been keeping up with this tragedy, hoping I will read that they found his body. I've read about both boys who went off this bridge, and I wish I would have known them. They both sound like such incredible kids. I send my condolences to both families who lost their love ones on this bridge.

This is becoming common place here in Maine. I think we have to question why. Kids show signs of sadness and depression long before they decide to take their own lives.

I see too many parents who can't be bothered to take their kids to a therapist, parents who would prefer to spend their time in bars and parents who just live in a perpetual state of denial hoping it will go away. Sadly it does not go away.

I am sure his parents are feeling tremendous guilt.

Is it the ignorance, lack of education or just plain old self absorbtion? Whatever finally pushes a child over the edge lives within the home and those of you who knew this boy well, knew what he was enduring.

A person who takes his or her own life simply wants to end the pain that has engulfed them.

My sympathy to those who really did love him.

I couldnt agree more. Ive lost many friends to suicide and car crashes and drownings and natural causes and things like that, and it sucks. I dont even know the kid, hell im from kentucky (i know, im a hill-billy) but it still sucks reading about shit like this. That kid was only 14 its sad to hear about people dying so young, especially kids like that who had a lot going for them. But anyways R.I.P
