There needs to be a federal law protecting sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. It's ironic that we have marriage equality at the state level in several states, federal hate crime protection, no more Don't Ask, Don't Tell, but we can STILL be fired from our jobs, refused service by businesses, and evicted or denied housing simply BECAUSE WE ARE GAY OR PERCEIVED AS GAY.

Simple solution. Don't flaunt your homosexuality in everyone's face. How would your employer or a business or your landlord know you're gay if you kept your sexuality to yourself?

There ought to be a law in all 50 states condemning homosexuality.

When heteros stop flaunting their sexuality, then you might have an argument.

Don't expect anyone else to do what you yourself refuse to do.

Simple solution would be to make discrimination against gays illegal in the same way a religious belief is protected. One doesn't have to "flaunt" anything to be fired for being gay. All it takes is for someone to even think someone is gay. To fire someone for being gay is nothing but pure hatred, bigotry, and prejudice in the same manner of racism and sexism. Why should one have to stay in the closet if straights don't have to? I say sue for discrimination when discriminated against! That man in the article won his case, got an anti-discrimination law passed in the county, and got a money settlement out of it. Be who you are in this free country of the U.S. and don't back down or conform to the demands of bigots.

It's not going to happen nor would we obey that law and it would be unconstitutional so keep dreaming or move to Iraq or one of those countries where you'd be much happier under a theocracy. If you don't like the laws in this country or equality then move the hell out!

If any of my employees ever decided to turn queer I'd fire them on the spot

You just can't stop yourself from lying, can you? Andre Cooley, who lost his job because he was gay, did in fact win his anti-discrimination case against his employer and was awarded a settlement including back pay. It's all right there in the article that was linked at the start of this thread.

SO,,, what your saying is that,, if I discover that I have employed,, a pedophile,, who prefers fondling young same sex children,, thereby defining them as gay,, or more correctly as homosexual,, I shouldn't be able to fire them from my daycare center on the basis of their homosexuality??????????

Troll much?

Your post is ridiculous. Of course no one would argue that you shouldn't be able to fire someone who is committing sexual assaults. That is a huge difference though from saying you shouldn't be able to fire someone just because you don't like the gender of their consenting adult romantic partner.
believe that

For starters, whoever this man is, he isn't "gay." He's homosexual. You insist on pasting a happy word over disgusting behavior, and then you screech to the skies when someone doesn't want to accept your redefinition.

Secondly, here's the way it ought to be: The business owner hires and fires who he wants when he wants for any reason he wants, period, doesn't matter whether the employee looks at a man's posterior as a sex object or if the employee has blue eyes or whether the employee wears jeans instead of khakis or just has a problem getting to work on time.

We're just curious whether you're really "down with the struggle": If you want to hire homosexuals and ONLY homosexuals at the business you own, is that okay with you?

That's ridiculous. It's 2013 and America is one of the leading Countries in the World... supposedly free. Where are your Equal Opportunities Laws and Commissions? Firing someone for being gay is like firing someone for their gender. When will employers get over themselves and employ people on ability to do their jobs well and not on their personal lives
