Tired of it

Ellijay, GA

#1 Oct 16, 2012
My wife got stopped by two Ellijay Police Officers during a road block. When she told me there where only two officers and no signs something didnt sound right. I called a friend who is a Georgia State Patrol , he told me that Georgia law states there has to be at least three police officers and one has to be a supervisor and the supervisor can only watch the road block and cant check any cars.He also said the supervior must fill out a plan of where they are going to do the check and if they are going to stop all the car or ever so many and that must be done before they start the road check.ANd if the road check is not done like the law states its not a legal road check.

Was this on a busy road, Tired of it? If it wasn't and there was no sign, I may have been a trifle spooked.

The third one was in the car behind tinted windows.
Why's its a big deal that their out trying too get tweakers and drunks off the road?

I have no problem with it as long as they comply with the rules governing their road blocks (proper signage, supervisor approval, etc).

Give me a break. If its truly safety they have in mind then why not block off both sides of the road?

I have been through many road blocks where they are stopping people going home, why not get them coming into town?

They are really good at this on Legion Rd when a public event is going on. Stopping people when they are almost home while the other side of the road into town is free and clear. Its Clearly not safety they have in mind, its the almighty dollar. Which they are always asking more of. Keep in mind Gilmer county pays more in "public safety" than any neighboring counties. More is allotted to that than even education. Clearly a police county.

You really believe that? Not saying that isn't their job, but REALLY? Are you half past blind?

I went through a license check last week at Lucille Avenue/Old Tails Creek road. No problem with me. If it gets ONE drunken driver or unlicensed or uninsured driver off the road, then it's worth it. Keep up the good work Ellijay PD!

Seriously? What exactly is your problem with law enforcement and what does it really matter if they get someone going home, as you put t, instead of coming into town?
As for Gilmer County paying more in public safety than anyother neighboring county, you couln't be more WRONG. How much exactly do you think they make and PLEASE elaborate on how much you think a person in their profession should make for putting his/her life o the line to save yours?

Comparing the last year or two versus the years before, would anyone say we are having more roadblocks lately?
Noticeably more or just a little more?

If the answer is more roadblocks, are you getting used to it? Or are you wondering to yourself, "What the heck is going on here?"

I say bravo to the police also. I read through fetch your news now and then and more than half of the culprits arrested are drunk drivers. this is a big problem here.

It is against the law to hunt on a baited field.
