Hi there,

I'm looking for advice on where to take my dogs to a vet in the Ellijay or Blue Ridge area. Will drive further if necessary.

Thanks

The absolute best is Ocoee Animal Hospital on Highway 5 north of Blue Ridge.

I can't remember the exact year, but, 8 or 10 years ago before we moved to this area permanently, we were at our cabin on the 4th of July and our beloved pekingnese began having a seizure. He had a seizure disorded and was on medication. Usually we could get him out of the seizure. Not this time. We called the emergency number for Ocoee Animal Hospital and left a message. One of the lady vets returned our call and met us at the animal hospital late at night. We had never been to this vet before as we did not live here permanently at that time.(I wish I could remember for sure which vet. I think it was Dr. Fran Liske.) After giving our dog an IV and getting him out of the seizure, she took him home for the remainder of the Holiday weekend to make sure he was OK. Without her, he would have never come out of the seizure and would have died that night. Our dog has since passed away due to age and medical problems, however, he lived and was a best friend for many years after this incident.

Thank you again Ocoee Animal Hospital.

We are yorkies and we love our vet, Dr. Day, at Ocoee Animal Hospitl. Would not want to go any where else.

Dr. Lewis at Appalachian Animal Hospital is a sweetheart, and, based on my limited experience, very good. We live in Atlanta, but have a cabin in Ellijay. On a Sunday afternoon, as we were walking down to the creek, we suddenly heard our little dog literally "scream" and he came to us hopping on three legs - holding his left hind leg up. We called the A.A.H. emergency line and Dr. Lewis responded. He left his luncheon guests and met us at his office. He took x-rays and told us he was sure it was a torn ACL. He gave us medication to help make our pup more comfortable and we discussed surgery options available in Atlanta. His charge for meeting us on a Sunday afternoon AND taking x-rays AND medication was around $70. In Atlanta, that charge would have been a minimum of $250.(BTW, it was a torn ACL. After surgery, our dog is doing just fine.)

We will be moving to Ellijay full-time within the next year and Dr. Lewis will definitely be our Vet. Read his column in the local paper; you likely will be impressed.

Congrats on moving to Ellijay fulltime! I also live down in Atlanta but come up as often as I possibly can. Where is Appal. Animal Hospital located? I'll be looking him up!

also Dr. Day will let your dog die if you have an emergency and don't have 25 for him to come to the office + all the costs of treatment then...so basically just to get him to show up your looking at having to have $500 at the very least...

They will also charge you about 3x as much as Ocoee for yearly vaccinations as compared to Dr. Mitchell.

You can also ask Dr. Mitchell to tour his adoptive animals and you will grow to see how big a heart this guy has for his animals. Ocoee Animal hospital is all about the green and plastic stuff in your wallet.

Orr Animal Hospital in Cumming are the absolute best. Saved our animals more than once. But if you don't want to leave Ellijay Appalachian is good too.

Dr. Mitchell at Copper Basin Vet (McCaysville, GA) is who I recommend to everyone. He cares more about animals than your money! I have had to call him in on a Sunday and was charged less than $100 total for the emergency, plus updated shots. When I called Ocoee Animal Hospital, they told me it would be $100 before the doctor even saw my dog (she had a fish hook stuck through her lip).

Dr. Mitchell is respected and loved by the community. He is truly a blessing to our small town!

Dr. Mitchell At Copper Basin Vet Clinic in McCaysville. He is the Best!!!!. He was the vet for the White House in Washington DC for the George H. Bush and Bill Clinton. SO if he was good enough for them he good enough for me. Plus he is a lot cheaper than anybody around. Took my dog to Appalchian Animal Hospital thay charge me over 200 dollars in another month my dog was sick again and I sure couldn't afford to take it back to them because my husband was laid off of work so someone told about Dr. Mitchell and I went up there and he took care of my dog for less than 50 Dollars and he got better. Much cheaper for your regular shots and everything.

DR MITCHELL IS THE BEST AROUND

Appalachian Animal Hospital is just off of 515 at "malfunction junction." (It is the intersection where Industrial Blvd. and, I believe, River Street come together and you then cross 515 at the light - after you cross 515, turn left just before you get to the gas station that is across the street from Rite Aid. I apologize that I do not know the name of the street.

I think you will like Dr. Lewis a lot - he seems very patient and compassionate.(I am not related, not a personal friend, and have absolutely no personal interest in promoting one vet over another. I just had an excellent experience with him.)

And, like you, I get to Ellijay every chance that I can. Last week, because of the snow, I couldn't leave it - Ha Ha!

The Bible says that men have dominion over animals. That means dogs are edible.

Copper Basin is great as is Ellijay Animal Hospital. Appalachian is great also but pricey where we usually take our six dogs. Copper Basin in McCaysville is where we just had our puppy spayed and we were quite impressed.

Ocoee Animal Hospital in Blue Ridge is wonderful! All of the doctors have been a great help to us whether it be regular checkups or emergency visits. Wouldn't take my animals anywhere else.

Dr. Mitchell is the best and very reasonably priced. However, if your animal is injured outside of office hours, he's not available. For day-to-day care, he's the best.

I had a client I took care of in the McCaysville area and Dr. Michell, took incredible care of her pets, & always worked w/ my client on payments!!! When my clients animals needed to be put down (bc of old age & illness) he sent someone to her home, so she could be w/ them when they passed, & then he took care of the arrangements! He is an awesome man & vet, very caring!!!

I also take my animals to Dr. Mitchell in McCaysville because he's a better vet and a lot less expensive. Appalachian and Ellijay animal hospitals are competent but way overpriced.
