Charlie, there are a few of us old time Democrats left and as you say we are gun totin, bible believing folks.
As far as Gilmer County goes here is the past history:

Prior to 1964 the vast majority of office holders were
democrat.

Beginning in 1972 and holding true even today the vast majority
are Republicans.

You don't have to be highly educated to figure out what happened.

Is there ANY Dems now in office in Gilmer?

The "old" Dems like Zell Miller, bear no resemblance to the current Dems.

And the "old" Repubs like Lincoln, bear no resemblance to the current Repubs.

This is not to imply that Zell is as old as Lincoln, the man who destroyed the ideals of America.

Barry Goldwater was the first Republican to carry Georgia in a presidential election. He appealed to those in Georgia who were opposed to integration.

Just a quick history note. During the civil rights struggle, it was traditionally democrats that were opposed to integration. Offhand, I don't know of any seriously anti-civil rights politician of that era that was not a democrat. I'm sure there were some, but those who fought the hardest against integration were essentially democrats.

JFK and LBJ were Democrats but those Democrats from southern states generally followed the wishes of those who put them in office (and could take them out). I think all politicians knew that civil rights was the right thing to do but their differences were in the time-frame of converting (accepting) and the extent to which a person running a business could choose who he wanted to serve or not serve. Things were done too fast for some but not fast enough for others.

A- Anyone worth his salt, knows hour by hour what is going on with this country.
The others not worth their salt, think if Romney is elected, the ONLY thing women care about -birth control- will be taken from them.
B- Congress becomes obsolete when the President issues one Executive order after another........
Check out this terrifying new ACLU report, straight from their own website. It shows how much of an increase the department of justice has had in monitoring you - the voting public - since 2009

In retrospect, has not a terrible price been paid for the right to eat at the Woolworth lunch counter?

Or the right to take a leak beside the white guy at the old Gulf station?

The food was not very good, and the bathrooms were not very clean. For anybody.

I worked at a Texico station and a Gulf Station. I cleaned the bathrooms at the Gulf. The owner inspected the white men and women bathrooms after I cleaned them; he could have cared less about the one "Colored restroom". That is the way it was in 1962.

This country is in a mess and will remain in a mess because of this kind of thinking! You are doing exactly what the two party system wants you to do!

Yes, I know how it was.
However, there are worse things than having a private filling station provide a person with a clean bathroom.
Having one's son killed in a drive-by fer instance.

Black families have been destroyed.
Their culture has been taken over by gangstas.

IOW, they have cleaner bathrooms, but are worse off overall.

This election is no longer about politics. It boils down to one simple issue, do you want to be a socialistic country or a democracy. The election is all about socialism.

You can worry about voting for one party or the other in four years if we remain a democracy.

We are not, nor have we even been, a democracy. Our founding founders hated a democracy. We are a democratic republic!
