Has anyone ever heard of the town called Whitepath? A large hotel was built there to accommodate the miners. The hotel was located on Whitepath Springs Road. Any information you could share about the old town would be greatly appreciated.

I have read the article before and was wondering if anyone had any additional information. It is very hard to find much information on the town.

What you are asking about was known as the Randall Property.
Supposedly Mr. Randall who built the hotel killed his wife and then his maid. I would suggest you go to the Gilmer Library to see if they have any of Lawrence Stanley's books. He wrote a lot about the history of the area. Also Clay Holloway who lives on Whitepath Rd. and is over 90 yrs. old would be able to tell you the true history of Whitepath. Good luck!

You might try and locate a book by G. Ward
publishwed in the 60's regarding Gilmer County.

There was some info regarding Whitepath and
the Motel in the book.

Mr Randell did not build the hotel. He bought the property after it had already burned down. And there are a lot of rumors and tales out there. Most are not true or only partially true.

I'm not sure if you are still interested. & not sure who that "awesome" person is. But I do live there, my last name is Randell. & my husband's grandfather vacationed @ the hotel & ended up buying the property after the hotel burned down. It's been in my husband's family since 1924. Have more info if interested.

I reckon I'v been up beyond the spot where the soil still is stained red. Old Randell had a bad temper and a cravin for the morphine. I spose it finally broke his brain before he went an brutally killed those women. Heard there wasn't much left. Beaten to pulp they say. Probly best it ended the way it did. He was close to landing on the vein. Woulda been a wealthy man. But, a jealous heart destroys ya' they say. I would warn ya'. Stay away from that place of evil!

If you go be sure to play the Burl Ives song "Silver and GOLD" and take
the feather of a dead crow to ward of the spirits.

It's the Randell property and why don't you stop and ask us Randells that live here!

The history associated with this property inspired the movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My advise is to avoid this place if at all possible. Even the local wildlife refuses to go near this place due to the bad vibes that become stronger as you approach the property. And remember...You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come a calling.
