Bank at Comtrust Federal Credit Union. You get nice people that really care about this community. I can't say enough nice things. They were there for me and my family in our time of need. Love that place!

Tired of Gossip Too wrote: I read these posts with some amusement because it seems that so many think that the information contained in this forum is the gospel...what a joke. I also can't help but to think of the child's fable, Chicken Little. So many of you are believing that the sky is falling, but have not seen the pieces falling yourself. Hmmm...in the fable, everyone who believes Chicken Little ends up in the fox den and is eaten. Wonder what that says about you all? It is very sad that we feed off the gossip on here. Have any of you personally witnessed the events being talked about, spoken with bank personnel or been involved? I really hope that anyone reading these blogs will take this information with a grain of salt. Until we know a fact, don't go around saying the sky is falling. Even after we do, is it our business to talk? Think about all of the great employees that have to constantly have people questioning them about these RIDICULOUS rumors. Is the sky falling? Don't decide or tell others until you see the pieces with your own eyes! When it comes to UCB a big chunk of sky hits me in the head every time I open my monthly statement. Its right there if you choose to look. UCB is toes up and in a coma. My tax guy says just write it off as essentially worthless stock and give the worthless paper to the kids. UCB played fast and loose with the rules, the law and other peoples' money for a little too long. Talent should have been out a long time ago. At this point, its demise is only a matter of when, not if.

I am curious as to why the Times Courier hasn't reported anything about Gilmer County Bank's recent problems. As a resident, I feel a little let down by having to get my local bank news and info on this website and from the AJC. Shouldn't our local paper at least discuss the situation or address it-I just don't know what to believe or who to believe about the whole thing. That's what the section called Gilmer Living is dedicated to- informing the residents of what's going on.

I am extremely frugal, college educated, and do not buy anything other than necessities. I still am not able to save the kind of money to pay cash for a vehicle, let alone a home. I would love some tips! Clark Howard, where are you! Better yet, Suze Orman, great on money saving tips. Just click on the internet. You will find them both. I also paid cash for my home. I bought land cheap in the eighties and sold it for a fortune to someone from Florida in 2007. You got to know when to hold em and when to fold em. A lot of people's good fortune is just a matter of circumstance.

My point was never to insult anyone (please don't be a jerk toward my posts - I'm just trying to help innocent investors and customers)... Stay within the FDIC limits with this bank. Also, you may want to check out their latest "press release." I'm not saying I knew something a while back that wasn't public, but... Tracy Newton was replaced THREE weeks ago - while some @SS tried to "educate" me on banking matters on this blog. The bank stock is worthless, the board is jumping ship, the "boss" was FINALLY fired - as per the C&D from earlier this year, they have hired a man who is very good at ending things as peacefully as possible... But the end is near. All I was trying to bring across was the fact that they (APAB) were going to be loosing about $5/share on a worthless stock in this quarter alone! Hang on if you have loans through them - I speak especially to those who can't make payments. Keep your deposits under FDIC limits if you are a regular customer. If you do have loans with this bank (builders/developers/business people especially), I simply recommend you don't speak with them at this time. Don't accept calls. Don't pay interest! Your lawyer/accountant will sort it out soon... APAB dug their own whole, don't jump in with them. Don't take calls from this bank is my advice. Don't make payments. Don't let them encumber your assets, and this is vital! That is what they will try and do at this point. Their value now is your property or equity. They will lie, cheat and steal to increase their equity to avoid JAIL! I wish I could write more, but I cannot at this time. Please just be cautious. I am a friend.

I personally want to keep my credit in good standing so I will continue to make my payment. If I was like some who couldnt make the payment I dont think they will have to worry about keeping deposits under the FDIC limit ($250,000). I would hope a lawyer would tell you to make the payment (if you could). Unless they just want to make more money off you.

UCB is one of the strongest banks in this community and is not operating under any FDIC order. The gentlemen you mention are very ethical and have quietly done a lot for this community without expecting anything in return. If you are truly a Chamber Member, you would know that. Stop paining all banks and bankers with a broad brush.
