there is no physical test or training at the sheriff's office. and to add to this statement just a couple of weeks ago there was a burglary in progress in the mountain town area. when the deputy pulled up he seen the perp run off in the woods and the deputy never attempted to go after him. that speaks to the physical training a little. we need a department that will enforce some kind of physical training for the deputy. not just to benefit the community but it will also benefit the deputy.

I have never had sheriff or deputy training per se, but I think I possess a fair amount of common sense so will apply a little here. If it were my home being burglarized, I think I would also have wanted to see some actual attempt to go after the person, but if I were the deputy, I can't imagine running into the woods after someone, without backup, that may have an accomplice hiding in there and may or may not be armed, away from my radio when no one was killed or injured. It does not seem like it would have been a wise thing to do physically fit or not. I know they show the guys on TV running off in the woods and down dark alleys, but I don't think it works like that in real life when the deputy's life would be on the line ... IMHO.

You have got to be kidding. This is the opposition that the Sheriff is up against. The following information was copied directly from Leon Davenport's facebook page (Davenport for Gilmer Sheriff) "about" section.

"Leon Davenport has been a resident of Gilmer County, his entire life. Leon currently serves locally, as an Instigator, and part of the Commanding Staff."

Do we really want an "Instigator" for Sheriff?

I just have to say to the people that announced early in the race that they were not voting for any incumbents...Really? You have had the opportunity to see the opposition and there is no way you could make that same statement.

Congratulations Stacy! I look forward to 4 more years of your leadership.

Thank you Mr. Tanner, for catching the auto correct error, on my Facebook Page "Davenportforgilmersherif f". Someone so nicely notified me of your post. The entry, of course was supposed to read "Investigator". Forgive me for the error, it has been corrected. If you have any questions, regarding my campaign or qualifications, please feel free to contact me by my email: [email protected] Thank you, again and God Bless.

And God spoke all these words, saying:“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

You shall have no other gods before me.

You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

You shall not murder.

You shall not commit adultery.

You shall not steal.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Hello, I am one of those people that "Make up posts to make Sheriff Nicholson look good", other than that I will not have my family members insulted and degraded by a coward that is hiding on the internet afraid to show their name. The facts are, Stacy has done an amazing job as Sheriff, has expanded the Department, and made Gilmer a better place. I cannot say how happy it makes me to pass at least one Sheriff Deputy every time I venture into town, often more. Shane Bowman is incendiary, and insulting. As I have told many people, he looks like the stereotypical doughnut munching cop you see on TV, not to mention the fact that he lets people off the hook for drugs and various other crimes, which is just the tip of the iceberg from what I hear. If any of the opposition are elected they will run this County into the ground, just like our current Superintendent has done with our schools. AS a political hack, I am predicting Stacy wins on July 31st without a runoff. Why you ask? because when an incumbent is facing 4 opponents that divides the opposition vote while those loyal to the incumbent just waltz into the polls and keep him in. All the Bowman fans are just anarchists, druggies and troublemakers, so why even hold their opinions as credible?
I am a Sheriff Nicholson supporter. Please do not post your support for him in the future. Your slanderous remarks about Shane Bowman, who I understand to be a fair and hard working officer, will just serve to steer votes away from Sheriff Nicholson. You complain about a coward hiding behind a keyboard insulating family members, and then you do the very same thing to others. Not the kind of support I think the Sheriff would want.

Botom line.... I sure am glad that I live under Grace and not under the Law (ie 10 commandments). Under the law there is one requirement - keep it; and there is one penalty for breaking the law; death. The penalty is the same for each of them equally.

Thank God for Grace, and for forgiveness. What you do is up to you - As for me - I'll not judge others by comparing them and their lives to the "Big 10" - because I know I had rather have what I don't deserve - Grace - instead of what i do deserve - death and judgement.

I had rather keep the topix discussion framed with comparing qualifications, demonstrated experience, and the ability to do the job.

Our current sheriff has done an excellent job as I have stated before for the first time we have a professional sheriff's office with a sheriff who knows what he is doing. Do we even want to think about voting for someone who lies to try and make his self look good like Hunter and all running does not have the experience our current Sheriff has so it is a no brainer. let's keep good people

Bernie Madeoff was a professional too. Appearances are just that, What happens out of the publics eye is more important to the people of Gilmer county than what "looks" good.

As long as there are small counties in this country and local Sheriffs there are probably going to be some things that are not always done by the "book." You elect someone that can make judgment calls when necessary. And you have to trust that they have still done what is best for the county. There are some things that aren't worth making a big deal about and it wouldn't matter if Shane or Leon or anyone else was Sheriff. We don't have the jail facilities to lock up everyone. so yes exceptions are probably made and whomever would be elected will end up having to make some exceptions.

But where it counts, the drugs, the habitual drunk driver, the habitual unlicensed driver, the thieves, the robberies, the sex offenders, the car and equipment thieves these people are dealt with and dealt with swiftly. Stacey Nicholson takes his job seriously and represents this county proudly.

You may be related and if so it probably wasn't easy to post what you said unless there is bad blood between you. And knowing what I know, I would say there is bad blood there and for whatever reason you felt you just had to say something. Well, you have.

Many of Gilmer county residents remember me from when I worked for the Sheriff's office (1999-2007). I witnessed many lies, cover ups and even some things that were in direct violation of the law.
Without any specifics your statement lacks credibility and looks like after the fact whining from a bitter person with an ax to grind.

Also, if you "witnessed direct violations of law" and did nothing about it, what does that say about YOU as a man sworn to uphold the law? Ever hear of the DA or GBI?

I am not whinning, I simply believe the people of Gilmer county deserve better. As for specifics, I am willing to provide what ever "specifics" that you want. And as for position as a "sworn" officer, I have a wife and kids to look out for and my Dad testified before the grand jury against Larry Henson in the 1980's and history shows that in the small confines of Gilmer county that one can still be a Sheriff as a convited felon. Some boats you don't rock while your family is with in reach of those who hold power.

Folks, the best combo for law enforcement in our county will be for each of us to vote for Nicholson for Shefiff ans Alison Sosebee for "D.A.".Please remember this on July 31st.

Your comment may carry more weight if you used your real name insted of just a screen name. If you want to know about the kind of person that I am, ask around to some of the locals that have been there for a while.

Well Joe, if performing the duties of a sworn officer is conflicting with your family obligations or endangers your family perhaps you should find another line if work. Most other jobs pay more anyway.

Back to substance, with what specifics do you contend the Sheriff did that was a violation of law?

Thank you for your courtesy.

I am not in law enforcement and never have been, however, I would not expect my sheriff to have an 8 to 5 office job sitting in an office setting appointments to meet with citizens that want to complain all day. That may occur in large metropolitan areas where the departments are large enough that the sheriff is strictly a figure head and manager.

I am sure that Stacy's schedule is demanding and changes daily depending on what happens during any given 24 hour period. Not to mention the night meetings that he must attend.

And no, I am not related to him.
