and your point is???

They do their job ( more than we give them credit for), sometimes they piss people off, sometimes they give folks a break, maybe they do not always have a smile,....so far I have had NO problems with our law enforcement officers.

What happened to you????

I don't know of anything that has happened to me. I was just inquiring because I am moving to this area. I know how small town government works and was just wanting to know if Ellijay has an honest police department or is easily compromised because of a persons stature.

I agree 100%. Ellijay PD, East Ellijay PD and Gilmer County Sheriff's Dept. are great people doing a hard and dangerous job. So are the State Troopers. Several years ago there were some problems but they are long gone. Don't break the law and there's nothing to worry about. Break the law and you have plenty to worry about. It really is as simple as that but some people just don't get it.

I would certainly be asking a whole carton of questions about someplace I was moving to but what someone thought of the local police would probably be at the end of the list. What about schools, churches, grocers, local government, newspapers, etc. etc.

I thank you for your input as I already know about the churches and I have no children in school but still support education. I have found only one grocery store in Ellijay, the Piggly Wiggly. The local government, Mayor and Council, seem to be one that basically affords the Mayor all power as to what business comes to town, as it has been made known that he owns a great deal of buildings downtown. And as far as the local Newspaper, it is at the least informative. I guess all in all, I am sure I will be happy here. It's a charming Little Village.

The Gilmer school system is academically one of the worst in Georgia. There is an Ingle's food store that has far superior food to Piggly Wiggly. The local newspaper is a joke. The publisher and editor need to find some other form of work. Other than that, the people here are great. So you take the good with the bad like any other place.

Ellijay is backwoods, East Ellijay is much more realistic. Same general community though. Best I can do. Come on up here, we need more folks who speak their mind. I for one would welcome you as a neighbor. Peace!

I own a tire distributorship and frequent ellijay on a very basis. Every time I travel on 515 I see what appears to be an elderly police officer running his little radar. what a speed trap this is!

NO reason to worry about our local police.(only lived here seven years) They are good officers and will give you a "little" break if you are respectful....and make an honest traffic mistake.....but you are still responsible.

Our police officers are better than MOST....

In my opinion after 12 years living here, the entire Gilmer County area has some good and some not so good points.

The Good
Great scenery, good fishing, hunting, hiking and camping opportunities, honest law enforcement, good country food, and a laid back approach to life.

The Not so Good
Mediocre schools, small town "good ol boys" politics with little tolerance for change, lousy newspaper, silly cable TV station, lots of chicken houses (weak zoning so watch out where you buy), dangerous roads in the mountain areas and not much night life.

Conclusion
Better than most places but not quite paradise.

Lighthouse,

Point by point...

Mediocre education...... pandemic in this country.

"good ol boys" politics ... try Chicago, the same, except they wear $1000.00 suits.

Lousy newspaper.... most are and they are going out of business. the WSJ and CSM are still pretty good.

Silly cable TV.....We get what we watch.

Lots of chicken houses...THEY HAVE TO LIVE SOMEWHERE.

Dangerous roads....drive carefully.

Not much nightlife.....not for our species, but the deer and other critters are all over the place. They are having a
great time. partyyyyyyyyy

Then don't speed and don't sweat it. Quit your griping. Too many people get injured or killed on that road because of speed and DUI. Try using cruise control if you're so nervous. Push a button, relax and enjoy the scenery.

If your not exceeding the speed limit it should not bother you. It is because of stupid Posts like yours that the local people think all Floridians are idiots.
