Churchill said,”A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”

Do you have any proof that this girl has swine flu?

Wash your hands a LOT! As soon as you go in the house after being out, use that hand sanitizer. I have one in my car as well. I have a lung disease already so that Swine flu would kill me. Don't take all the talk too lightly. Fight it. They tell you to keep your hands away from your nose & eyes but that's not even a possibility.

Yes there is a confirmed case of swine flu H1N1 in Salamanca. The young person did NOT contract it in this area.

If it's confirmed, then it shouldn't be hard to get a link to a statement from the proper authorities about it, right? One of the Buffalo channels would be all over this, you'd think.

I don't think the Olean paper would be wrong, and it said there is a child from Catt. County in the intensive care unit in Children's Hospital with Swine flu. I'm sure it is this little girl from Salamanca. I also heard there are two kids in pre-K with it. The teachers are mad because the schools aren't letting parents know.

Ah, there you go. If the paper's reporting it, I'll give it a little more credence. As far as the schools go, if they know about it, and they're confirmed cases, they should definitely let parents know. But until they're confirmed, I don't blame them for saying nothing.

Mr. Nice Guy Take a chill. It is a young native girl with the h1n1 and she is on a respirator. It's confirmed and not a rumor. Stop trying to make everyone out to be liars on this forum.

I don't think people should be fighting over whether this is true or not! They should be praying for this little girl and praying nobody else gets sick like this!

I work with someone related to this little girl. We should all pray for her. I heard a child in Pre-k has had it and a child in first grade has it. I was also told the school won't say anything for confidentiality reasons. I think people need to be aware. Some are taking it to lightly and of course others are in an all out panic. I have a child in school and am very concerned.

You miss my point. It does no one any good to make claims that this child has this or that, without confirmation, needlessly whipping people into a frenzy. This is a touchy subject, and people are already on edge over the possibility of a pandemic. All it takes, in a situation like this, is one person to start screaming, "OHMYGOD! She has swine flu! We're all gonna die!!!" and people start panicking. That possibility is quite likely why the schools haven't said anything, yet.

Plus, if it turned out she didn't have h1n1, she'd be stuck with the stigma, anyway.

People, don't expect the Salamanca School District to be forthcoming with any honest information. One child from the third grade, SENECA School has confirmed and one young lady who was sent home from college with it. SO there are at least 2 cases in the area. The school will not tell you anything because if parents panic they might not send their kids to school. No kids in school, no state money. All your children are walking dollar signs to the Powers To Be. No kids, no money. Most of us are going to get the flu. A very, very teeny tiny fraction will die from it, as people do EVERY YEAR from the flu. There is more risk of that Guienne Barre (sp?)from the shot then benefits of the shot itself. Go to the CDC website and do the math for yourself. Let's face it, kids and even teachers are not washing their hands constantly. There is NO way every teacher every day can wipe down toys and desks. Janitors cannot possibly clean the entire building every single day.
Go to Rite Aide, McDonald's, Parkview... anything you touch, EVERYTHING you touch has germs on it.

While my heart goes out for any sick or injured child, I for one am sick to death of hearing about H1N1. I really feel sorry for this young girl, but H1N1 isn't the reason why she is in the hospitable, it is because H1N1 took advantage of an existing problem or condition.

Really, more people die by the common cold then they do this swine virus. And please don't say that it hasn't been around nearly as long, they have been vaccinating it for over 40 years.

There are kids right now in Salamanca fighting leukemia or other forms of cancer, juvenile diabetes or one of many other health problems. Do we all run to a forum questioning whether or not it is confirmed or even talk about it?

Swine flu is NOT the bubonic plague. There will NOT be hundreds of thousands of deaths. It is a variant of the common flu, nothing more, nothing less. The media placed the fear into us and some of us are biting it hook-line and sinker.

Oh and guess what has the most germs on it. The almighty green back, aka, dollar bill. Every time you handle your money, think of all of the hundreds of thousands of people who touched it prior to you. For all of those paranoid people, you might want to wear rubber gloves every time you dig into you wallet or pants pocket to pick out your dollars and change. The staff bacteria growing on your money should really be alarming.

Swine is all over the Salamanca School District, so that means it's all over town. Germs, germs, germs. Just wash your hands, cough into elbows, don't kiss strangers.

So true.....I talked to a doctor about it today. It's worse here than what people know.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Sagittarius

You're in a strange mood, Sagittarius. You're feeling impatient and cross, and nothing is quite right. No wonder, with Mercury and Mars retrograde, under a Full Moon lunar eclipse! But is it necessary to be quite so contrary, so determined to do the opposite of what's expected of you? Try to sort out the problem sooner rather than later, then do something energetic and therapeutic so you can burn off your nervous energy. Then you're all set for a great New Year's Eve!
