How much do cigarettes cost in your state? In CA they are $4.25-$5.00 a pack. Unless you go to Costcol. Many stores don't even sell them anymore: Target. After you buy your cigarettes, you can't smoke them anywhere legally in CA. No beaches, no eateries, no bars, and not in your car if you have children. If you're caught smoking within 20Ft of a city door, you're really in trouble.
Good luck with your new tax!
The bans are only enforced in some areas of CA. I was there as recently as last summer and in the area I was in many of the non-chain place bars smoking was going on. At one place CHP came in and I wondered what would happen but they tended to their business and went on.

You know what? It is illegal to smoke in a bar across the state. Whether or not the bar owner enforces it is up to them, however they can lose their liquor license as a result. Not only that, the cities of Malibu, Santa Monica, Calabasas, Beverly Hills, parts of San Diego, and Santa Barbara have banned smoking period. Many cities are following their example. Ironically, it is legal to smoke pot within the confines of your home in the city of West Hollywood. Go Figure

Mercer, Madera & San Bernadino County to name a few places. I am not going to be more specific to prevent an anti attack. A colleague ran into one in Modoc Co. The SB Co. was where CHP visited.

Don't feel bad though the same thing goes on in CO. The large city population bases that vote these things in don't seem to get out much. They affect businesses in a bad way many times but after the initial "super cigarette sweep" to lay down the law many places go on with their lives.

I have seen pocketed "nonenforcement" as well more so in areas of Colorado away from the big cities CA but I have seen them in CA also.

No you are assuming that ANY of the money will actually go to insurance for anyone but the "Blue Ribbon Panel" that will oversee and administrate this ghost program.

I am sure if this system would happen to actually get off of the ground that you will always somehow be about $500.00 over the income limit.

Hmmm...... I have a feeling that this statement has much truth to it. Glad someone is paying attention.

Shall we hear this again. I did vote for this bill but they lied to us democrates. If I had it to do over, I would have not voted for it.

well it's too late to do anything about it now I blame bush and the democrates for this mess so for them to back mitch on this failed plan.
they will all get what they dont want and that's being voted out of office.

It's time for a Indianapolis Tea Party. Boston Still! Where is Al Copane when you need him. I think a good protest march is in order. Hey! It seem to be the in thing. But start this march at the, Indianapolis, Aiport, and hit every state person house.

I am a non smoker.

Just to inform people. If you do work and are not eligible because you just above the guide line. For places that don't offer medical coverage to their workers. They will be able to possible buy it at a low rate through this program. The business will get a tax deduction. Taking back roads to Kentucky is impossible because of the river. However, it may be illegal to search your vehicle.

I think you can legally buy cigs in Kentucky and bring it to Indiana if you pay the taxes, which would still be cheaper than buying it here.

For you people say get a job or a better job.
It is not that easy!.

Hi Everyone,
Instead of buying smokes in other states and worrying about the 44 cent tax, why not quit smoking? I smoked for 35+ years and learned about the new quit smoking pill from Pfizer, it's called Chantix and it works!!! Check out our forum on Topix. I tried everything know to man to quit, I can't believe how this pill works...amazing!

Once upon a time, not too long ago, a person who professed to abhor nanny governments--governments which dictate personal choices, restrict personal freedom and individual liberty, deny business owners the right to set their own business policies and to free enterprise and which penalize, punish, ostracize and demand remunerative retribution from those who do not conform --was assumed to be an American.

In today's America, where all of those nanny government polices are now advocated and embraced, that person is assumed to be a smoker.

Happy Birthday, America!

Today,I earn very good extra income by buying large amounts of cartoons of cigarettes from the state next to mine, bringing them back and selling the hell out of them here where cigarettes are 70 to 80 cents per pack higher in my state because of the highway robbery taxes on them, than they are in the bordering state. There's always more than one way to skin a cat. LoL.

I paid 60 per cent of my college tuition many years ago by buying booze in my town, then taking it to my hometown that the hippocrits voted dry years and years ago and selling it for top dollar per can or bottle.

Hey everyone,
I also live in a a state where they have taxed smokers to death all for the sake of health care, we also were one of the states that got money from the big tobacco companies in that lawsuit.

They are taxing crime into your state.
Texas has a new big crime, boot leg smokes.
I live close to OK so I could go to the indian reservation and get cigarettes cheaper.
Troopers are busting cigarette smugglers like crazy. They need to either out law smoking or stop trying to pretend they care about the expense of HCare. They tax us to death all the while even with all the increased revenue from the general tax fund they are still short at the end of the year because they (unlike us), have to keep taxing to cover there spend policies that are already put hard working americans out of their homes with deliquent tax notices. Wow that was a mouth full....

I have quit smoking with Chantix RX, I am very lucky with 3 months with no cigarettes after 37 years of smoking. They were .35 per pack when I started. Now they are 5.60 and going up in January again.

Next, they are going to start taxing people for obsity, LAUGH but it is coming!!!!! Some companies already chatrge you more if you smoke or are obese. So it is coming, it has already started. Don't worry if you drink, the booze companies pay off lawmakers better and have better lawyers. Your the ones who slam back a couple of beers or margaritas at dinner and help your kids into the back seat of the car for a ride home, and raise holy heck, if your kids crossed the pass of my cigarette smoke....

Good luck in Indiana.
