Health-care crunch hits Indiana's poor

I'll tell you that illegal aliens are sucking this city dry of health resouces. I talked to a friend at Wishard who told me that news is all over this country and other ccountries which are namely Africa and Mexico that Indiana is the place to have babies and get treated for free. many high risk patients who are pregnant go to Wishard and are illegal aliens with HIV etc. Hoosiers must wait in lin with these illegals and monies that should go to needy Hoosiers is getting rerouted to the illegal aliens.

Perhaps if Indiana wasn't forced to provide free health care for ILLEGAL aliens then CITIZENS and legal residents could get the health care they need, can afford and are entitled to!

It would be interesting to see how many uninsured Indiana citizens there are if those here illegally were taken out of the equation.

I blame Daniels for letting the illegal alien population increase so rapidly in Indiana. He has the power to make Indiana an unwelcome state to those persons, but instead he is welcoming them with open arms.

I thought that Indiana just raised its cigarette tax to fund health insurance for the "poor" who cannot afford it. Is Irsay getting that money too?

Free health care is a black hole that will suck any and all of the money that is thrown at it. Between generations of people that have lived on welfare & had many kids that have no family nucleus, to very unhealthy life styles (went to the state fair yesterday....oh my goodness), to the illegal’s & their anchor babies, to over paid doctors to over charged hospitals there is no way that tax payers will be able to keep up. Our medical system is a mess due to the amount of greed and demand by all of the major players.
The answer is not socialized medicine because putting politicians in the mix will only make a bloated system 10 times worse.
there are a lot of major problems we have got to face in the next few years & no true leaders to face them. May God help.

A man, 59, can NOT get Medicare unless he is classified as disabled. If you notice in the picture, he is morbid obese and probably is also getting SSI. Either way we end up footing the bill 1. for him not working 2. for him eating as he chooses We probably give him food stamps as well. Some guidelines need to be in place for this

Fear mongering BS.
Fact: The U.S. is the only industrialized country with for profit health care.
Fact: U.S. healthcare is ranked 39th in quality of care. Right above Cuba.(WHO)
Fact; Overhead costs for private insurance is in the 10-15% range. medicare/Medicaid overhead costs are 3%(U.S. govt. study)
Health insurance companies rang up record profits (including Wellpoint) again this year. These profits aren't from efficient workers, they're a result of denying services & raising out of pocket costs for consumers.
Not for profit healthcare FOR ALL is the only solution.
Talk to someone from Canada or Australia. I did last week. They love their healthcare system and are frightened and befuddled by our ridiculous system. Don't listen to the juiced media hype. Find out for yourself @ www.healthcare-now.org .

I'm from Indiana, got laid off, lost my healthcare, bought the health insurance I could afford, had a surprize medical emergency that the insurance company is fighting not to pay and now I'm in a real financial jam. We have to fix this healthcare issues ASP. I read somewhere that 47% of personal bankruptcies happen to people in my boat. Believe me...it's terribly hard and I don't want free anything...just reasonable help.
