This hole village is full of corrupt people who raise taxes and waste the money of hard working people. The police should get there head out of the sand and enforce the laws instead of making a profit off speeding tickets. humm let spend money here and there on projects that are just a waste. No one want to pay the high taxes anymore and the village and town need to lower it for the sake of bring business back in this town. Raising taxes destroy the ability for people live in this village.

I call out the Ellenville high School for rigging the budget vote. no one in there right mind would vote to raise there taxes. Were the money going to come from. Bleed it out of the poor and middle-class... The rich are running out of the village. Were channel master... They left and so did Hydro. Ellenville is so great at keeping business here. We need to wake up and take back this village and town and vote them all out and start fresh.

Rman's main problem is that exaggerated and absolutist hyperbole is hard to take seriously. "The hole (sic) village"? "Full of corrupt people"? Doesn't "enforcing the laws" include ticketing those who break the speeding laws? WHICH projects "are just a waste"? Just making vague and unspecified claims is rather hollow. "High taxes" compared to where? Do you believe that, with the entire national economy in the funk of a contracting tailspin, that "taxes" in Ellenville and Wawarsing are the main reason for businesses not coming here? Oh, except that some ARE! A new heath food store just opened, at least THREE new restaurants, an art gallery coming (I hear), and others.

How did the Ellenville HIGH School "rig" the budget vote? What does that even mean? And who is the "we" you claim to speak for? Sure, things are bad, and could be better, but I can think of plenty of places far worse off, and with less potential, or positive things (like Broadway-caliber theater, top-drawer regional hospital, excellent library, plenty of pure water) to build upon.

If you are so disgruntled, work to make things better in a MEANINGFUL way, or take your sour attitude and leave.

how about Wilson's shop getting that free village truck. plz get you head out of the sand. This village is dead.. pizza hut, Burger king, The health store krulick with respect what a joke we need a Factory in here that will make 300-500 jobs. lowering taxes is a start, Because people will spend more money. i got to ask you krulick were is dodge and chevy. We can't keep that in the village, but Woodridge can keep there's and the village is in worse shape. The art galley is been on the burner for years. I got an idea lets bring a collage in Ellenville Were hydro use to be.... so i am not all negative. I just believe that Ellenville need to look at some of the people that have left.

Oh and the cops did real good on that poor woman. One up to them. To build a strong community you must have low taxes and a slim government. That mean cut the pay scale of Government workers. But that won't happen do to village click. Krulick you part of that click and i ask you this... i bet you that the school and village budget will go up next year... were is that million dollars extra the school had that they have to return to the state. it was an error. plz

First, Rman, don't criticize others for what you yourself are a glaring example of, i.e., sloppy, barely literate composition.

Just stating in absolute terms that the "village is dead," doesn't make it so. Ellenville is in better shape than many similar communities, otherwise why would new businesses actually be starting up here? Pizza Hut and Burger King are hardly the be-all and end-all of a village! Besides, the reasons they closed had little or nothing to do with it being Ellenville; the owner of several Pizza Huts closed them all, Ellenville being just one of several, and the Burger King seems to be a real estate-related action, with someone wanting to stick it to someone else.

Why is a new and well-stocked health food store "a joke"?(That seems to be a stock comment for those who can't actually articulate their position; it's neither "funny" nor "pathetic" so what's the reason for the claim?) A successful businessperson expands his Middletown store to Ellenville; would he do that if it weren't a viable action in a viable location? What does that have to do with the mutually-exclusive possibility for a factory coming or starting from here?

In this economy, WHO is going to come from afar to start a factory? It's not magic! As I've mentioned elsewhere, it COULD be done, but we'd be better off making our OWN economic future secure by determining what WE need HERE based on IMPORT SUBSTITUTION. "Lowering taxes" sounds good, and is easy to SAY, but what of the services that the taxes pay for? Which services do you think should be reduced or eliminated? THAT is the hard choice YOU fail to deal with. There's no evidence that "people will spend more money" LOCALLY, IF taxes were lower. Chevy closed because GM pulled the plug on them; Dodge closed years ago, in a declining market for US cars. So, what's your point? The decision is that of the owner; who knows why Woodridge is still open, or how well they're doing?

What's your point about the gallery? An artist has taken the initiative to open a gallery in the village! Good for him! Maybe it will do well, and he has ideas he'd like to enact to increase the role the arts play in the local economy. Let's see how it works out.

Bring a college to Ellenville? Hey, if we had some ham we could have a ham sandwich if we had some bread! WHO is going to "bring" it and PAY for it? I have suggested that the Nevele would be a GREAT location for an ARTS COLLEGE of SUNY, but will the state spring for it?(BTW, both the Nevele and Hydro are OUTSIDE the village, so how will that help, other than indirectly?)

To have a strong community you need APPROPRIATE TAXES and APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENT; to paraphrase Jefferson, "The government that governs best, governs BEST!" Low taxes and slim government? That's Somalia!

I am HARDLY a part of the "government click" (sic)! The "clique" tried to push me out and STILL wouldn't let me hold even a volunteer position representing the village on the County Planning Board when I applied! So get your facts straight! Mayor Kaplan and former Manager Auerbach did everything they could to freeze me out of the loop and try to make me quit the Village Board.

Krulick with respect to your view you need to get reality check. lowering taxes would bring the business and jobs in. If you tax to high they will leave. government is the problem not the solution.. Ronald Reagan. So stop getting mad and blowing up on blogs. Families when they are in a rough economic situation cut back on expenses and don't spend what they don't have. Why did Ellenville borrow from the fund they have, i forget the name, but i think it was the mountain fund.

As for a collage it should be not only arts, criminal, etc. The art gallery is not even open yet. this has been in the talks for awhile. krulick i ask you to talk to the homeowners in Ellenville and ask there views. I don't need Government in my life all the time. As for government waste why does Ellenville Wash the road with that machine? The rain will take care of and Ellenville village trucks should clean the garbage.

A lot has to do with taxes ask business owners what hurt them the most. it is taxesr. Go to upstate New york... jobs are hard to come by. Krulick you have money and i am poor i have to work the third shift to make ends meet. You don't.... TAXES ARE HIGH! i don't even see my saturday pay it goes to taxes. i wish there was a Factory job or a Collage around here to pump this village with needed jobs. don't be little somalia you don't have no clue the way they live. be happy you can express your views they can't. As for getting kicked out of the click i don't know what happend between you two. Krulick it sometimes better to fight alone then be in a click. To top it off were are the manufacturing jobs.... China. look at the stuff you buy, including me. not a lot made in the USA... at least the Chinese got jobs..

Just saying I need a "reality check" is not an answer nor refutation. It's just a blatant ad hominem assertion.

You don't address my points with responses, other than with more blatant assertions sans evidence. It's hard to argue with empty claims. Reagan's pat and simplistic blatant assertions were just his unproven unfounded opinions, and can't be entered as logical argument or proof of anything; the Founding Fathers thought otherwise, and laid out a government structure to DEAL with problems. The problem is BAD or CORRUPT government, or government too weak to deal with problems, or government that favors the few rather than the many.

Taxes are not the only reason why businesses are struggling. Taxes are "high" compared to WHOM or WHERE? Everyone likes to complain that THEIR taxes are too high, but when you STUDY them, you often see that they are NOT as high as elsewhere, or even as high as they were before, when adjusted for inflation. Teabaggers complain about taxes going up, when the truth is that their taxes, and most others' taxes, actually went DOWN! Perception trumping reality.

Who's getting mad? Who's blowing up? YOU are the one SHOUTING in all caps! That's RUDE!

Ellenville didn't BORROW from the so-called "mountain money"; they used THEIR money, which was just sitting in a bank account, to pay down a deficit to improve their credit rating and avoid having to carry the deficit from year to year, OR to RAISE TAXES to make up the difference. Would you have preferred that taxes went up to pay for services already paid for? Make up your mind!

The college is only an idea; I doubt the money or political will exists to make it happen. Reality check: The gallery IS open. Get out and see for yourself!

Government isn't IN your life all the time; that is just teabag paranoia and hyperventilating.

No, rain alone won't clean the streets of debris, but is that your big complaint, that we have a street sweeper? Sheesh. If you think THAT will make a big difference, go to Village Board meetings and complain.

Wishing won't bring factories (which even you acknowledge have moved, many to China, so how will we compete with THAT slave-labor economy? BTW, with the downturn in the global economy, and drop in US buying, THOUSANDS of Chinese factories have closed, and hundreds of thousands of Chinese workers were laid off, or didn't you know?) or colleges or jobs. But in a short time, all that will seem like another galaxy, because without oil, or energy, or transportation, or imported goods, our entire lives will be turned upside down, so we'd better start planning for THAT coming reality. We have to become more SELF-sufficient as a community, so that WE take responsibility for OUR food, water, energy, sanitation, health, transport, heat, allocation of labor, etc.

That's right, you clearly DON'T know what happened between me and the "clique" (and it's more than "two") but it didn't stop you from assuming as you did.

In your all-caps screed you make some rather slanderous claims, including naming someone, who could sue you, IF he knew who you were, hiding behind your anonymity as you are; where's your proof? Anyone can make such charges, but if you have the evidence, why don't you take it to the DA or Attorney General or Federal Marshall or FBI and do something more than whine? Also, you seem confused between the town and village; there are no town cops.

krulick read the last post it not me it some other person. As for cop i know the Ellenville pd, Sheriff, and state troopers. i know there are no town cops. so stop Krulick. The founding fathers were fight because the British were taxing them to death and not giving them a say in government. Just like it is today. How much did it cost for the Brand new chevy pick-up for the Village, there old now...2006.

The mountain money should of not been used. Lay people or cut wages for a short time. Get rid of the Free trade agreement Krulick.. did you know China taxes our exports to there country. It time to tax them and everyone around the world. as for Government in my life what right do they have to tell me what i can do to my property.. Ask the poor guy who's antique cars went on fire in a warehouse down because the Town not the village said it was against the zoning code. plz you have no property rights you rent your house every year. Tell me this i don't have kids why should i pay for a service i don't use like school taxes, why do i have to pay for people who have more children then they can afford, why do i have to pay for a liabary that i don't use.. i can go on-line and read.

To top it off why do we new yorkers have to pay for cell phones for people in New york.... The only one that should get free cell phone is senior citizens.. Senior citizens should be tax-exempt on there property to lose your house because your retirement can't cover the bills, what a joke. We throw away are senior citizen like there garbage krulick and it sick. It time for the young Generations to get a job and stop giving them free handouts. That is government waste. government is the problem and in november we shall se the people voice and that is yes can... New senate and house.... Then when it come to the local Elections we shall see.

The comment about the EPD come from deestreet of aol...

Krulick you have a good day.

Krulick Troll is right about you. As for Ellenville we can fight this all day. The village is falling apart and you are to blind to see it. Crooked cops, village that likes to raise taxes, you have no respect for anyone who has a different view then you. Ask the people in the village what they think of Ellenville...

Krulick i read your post and even if i don't agree i try to show some respect. Grow up

No, troll and you are wrong; just making ad hominem blatant assertions doesn't make them true or relevant.

I am hardly blind to the problems of Ellenville, having seen it first hand for years; I just don't see things in the absolutist, simplistic, black-or-white dyspeptic terms YOU seem to. Nor do you know what I see, know, think, or have respect for, and it's hubris on your part to assume you do or could.

There are many persons I disagree with that I respect, because they stand behind what they say rather than hurl brickbats anonymously, they support what they say with logic, facts, evidence, and civility. I don't respect, and have no reason to, liars, gossips, bigots, hypocrites. You are guilty of at least several of the above.

As for Walmart, it will destroy 1.5 jobs for each one it "brings" (and, indeed, many ARE "brought" from outside, being management, as well as many workers from one of the five or so existing WMs within a 30-mile radius) plus a 50-200% annual turnover rate, and sucking $1-1.5 million per WEEK out of the local economy. How are any of those things good for us?(I know you won't answer me on this; nobody ever seems to!) So you're math-challenged as well, it would seem. Get educated before spouting nonsense, OK?

krulick you just proved my point your insults are so not needed. math challenged... grow up. Look at middletown and Monticello, ny... Shoprite and locals will still be business.. This a free country if don't like wal-mart don't shop there. people like you restrict the free market. Throw numbers out and i i would put my bet that local business in Ellenvile would survive.

For being so smart krulick you act like your better then other people on this site and insult them with comment like (your math-challenged). Krulick have respect i don't insult you however we have a right to our views. You have a good day krulick

No, as THAT wasn't your point; now you're just moving the goalposts.

IF you are incapable of understanding how LOSING 350 local existing jobs to "gain" 200 mostly part-time, low-pay, discriminatory, high-turnover, non-union dead-end jobs that HALF or more will not even last a year is a NET LOSS of 150 jobs, you ARE math-challenged! And I hadn't said you WERE, only that it would SEEM so. The other math questions you ignore so I repeat my claim.

Downtown Middletown and downtown Monticello are ghost-towns, thanks to shopping centers OUTSIDE the city centers. THAT is what I fear for Ellenville, the LAST nail in an almost completed coffin.

I'm so glad YOU KNOW that Shoprite and "locals will still be business" (sic)! Wow, that so relieves me that YOU guarantee the future! Studies and logic say otherwise. BTW, it's NOT a "free country" and there's no "free market" but that's another subject. And if WM comes in and destroys the places I NOW shop at, whether I shop at WM or not, I'm way less "free" as my CHOICE has been removed, which is WM's goal.

Your "bet" is based on nothing but your blatant assertion, based on wishful thinking, denial, and ignorance; not much to place MY confidence in!

Denial also that YOU haven't insulted me, which you have, or shown me respect, which you haven't. I'm dealing with a guy behind a curtain; that's already being rude to me.

Businesses are closing for three reasons: the economy SUCKS all over the US, so we're not unique; people like you have already abandoned local stores to shop elsewhere; manufacturers have left because companies LIKE WM buy from China and we can't compete. I see that clearer than you, I'm sure.

But why bring in Walmart and drive in the final nail? Taking $1-1.5 million out of a weak and small cash pool EACH WEEK not only kills off direct competitors, but takes money out of circulation that goes to ALL local businesses. Again, if you don't see THAT, you ARE math-challenged.
