Ellenville native looks to honor Catskill's glory days

There are 5 comments on the www.freemanonline.com story from Jul 25, 2011, titled Ellenville native looks to honor Catskill's glory days. In it, www.freemanonline.com reports that:

Jack Godfrey, an Ellenville native who grew up surrounded by the sights, sounds and people of what became known as the Borscht Belt. Godfrey hasn’t forgotten the throngs of visitors who would descend upon the area. And it is these memories that Godfrey hopes to preserve. He is spearheading an ambitious plan to build a Catskill Resort Museum and Borscht Belt Comedy Hall of Fame in the village of Ellenville. He feels strongly that such a museum would not only draw many visitors, but would also help preserve a piece of history that is in danger of being lost forever.

everyone wants to put a museum in Ellenville. They want to put a knife museum in Ellenville. Let stop with this... i will only support it if is not funded by tax payers money. I also challenge people to bring the glory days back.

The planned knife museum would be in Napanoch, NOT Ellenville. But then, people are constantly confusing Ellenville, the village, with the surrounding town. Oh, and there's no evidence that "everyone" wants to do any particular thing. Or that there's a distinct "they." I also doubt if "anyone" is hanging on YOUR support.

READ what I said, not what you THINK I said. I didn't say anything about WM there, or whether or not support existed FOR WM here (and of course there was SOME support from INTELLIGENT persons for my positions, your not seeing it notwisthstanding; I said that REGARDING the museum(s), the object of your "support" only if absent tax monies, I doubt if anyone (the "everyone" who wants to put a museum in Ellenville, or Napanoch, to be exact) is waiting breathlessly for YOUR support before they act. See the difference?

As for tax monies, there is a place to subsidize local business or non-profits in various ways, to help get them started, for example, particularly if they bring tourists and cash to the community, or to help with signage, or renovations, that make the community look better; the Shadowland Theatre is an example.

But, ultimately, it shouldn't even be just donations, but INCOME from sale of of tickets, souvenirs, books, etc.

Sales on tickets is a good idea. They should also put ads out. Now that you mention the shadowland Kim aurback sorry for the misspell of her name also saved the shadowland through donations and that is when i was in Ellenville School.

So donations work to some extent.. But tax money should be limited. The Shadowland looks ten times better then it did when i was in School.

Ok krulick sorry for wal-mart will keep to the topic

Have a good day Krulick
