Why are the two police officers names being witheld? Would they withhold any one else's names if they say broke a windw, sold drugs or even stole a candy bar? Why protect these two curropt small town cops?

Because they broke no law, and the matter will be discussed by the village board in executive session, as with all personnel matters. Surely there was poor judgment, but that doesn't mean "corruption."

Sure it's corruption... on top of stupidity. They're advocating for the drug culture.

You have a rather broad definition of "corruption."

The so-called "War on Drugs" is itself the epitome of corruption, as it is really a "war" on CERTAIN persons who use CERTAIN drugs. As long as it rewards an entire industry of police, fed agents, judges, prisons, they don't mind if it also rewards the drug kingpins with whom they share this symbiotic relationship of mutual money-making. If a bunch of low-level dealers/users or even a few cops have to be thrown under the bus, so be it, as long as the billions keep flowing to the rest of the "drug-dependent" industry.

One of those cops being a teacher, teaching innocent special needs children...wow! You are really sad to defend such garbage (Krulick) and should be ashamed of yourself!! Aren't teachers supposed to be our children's role models?! Sad, very sad! I am no longer interested in this topic, just purely disgusted.

And what evidence do you have that anything involving this video is connected to him teaching special needs children? Are you suggesting that these kids are being told to take drugs by this cop? Is that like gays can't be teachers because they will "impose" and "promote" their "gay lifestyle" on the kids? You really assume a lot, don't you?

I'm not defending cops having poor judgment in appearing in a video. I AM defending their right to be dealt with fairly and firmly within their department and by the village board.

I am only ashamed that we live in a hypocritical country that has a double standard when it comes to which "drugs" are legal and which are not, when far more individuals are killed by "legal" drugs (alcohol, tobacco) and prescribed drugs than by those that have been "prohibitioned" without a required constitutional amendment.

WE ARE ALL supposed to be "role models" for kids, and that is best done by being honest, pro-justice, tolerant, merciful, courageous, kind, consistent, fair, understanding, compassionate, helpful, etc. I'm sure that YOU are a splendid walking example of each of those, all the time, right?

I am a wonderful role model to my children and others that I teach. So point your finger somewhere else. Such as, the topic we are wasting our valuable time with..
****Snorting cocaine, smoking marijuana and making it look glamorous is highly uncomparable to living a gay lifestyle. Why are you trying to get off topic?

You are ignorant just like the two officers with poor "judgement". Let's just say, a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. These men are old enough to be held accountable of their OWN mistakes!
I bet they are praying they get to keep their jobs. Their prayers will be heard, just like all the other EPD constantly dodging and lucking out.(Dare officer in charge was an unlikely candidate to be holding that position) just another JOKE for you.

Ellenville is a rat hole of infested people, you being one of them! These are the type of people that belong in that town. Keep defending them and KEEP them in Ellenville. Drug users, felons, child molesters, etc..What category do you fall in?

Wow, you speak very highly of yourself, don't you? I wonder what a more objective person might say; as it is, I referred to EACH of those qualities ALL the time, and you'd have to be a saint to match that... or just have a huge or delusional ego to claim such absolute superiority. A little humility might be a good place to start, role-model-wise.

I thought you were no longer interested, yet here you are still! So much for honesty. And wasting more time! So much for prudence and industriousness!

Again, is there any evidence that ANY illegal activity was engaged in, or that the cops were acting ILLEGALLY? So far, no, but let the department and board address that, OK?

What *I* was comparing was the same ATTITUDE that suggests that one carries EVERY part of one's life INTO the teaching environment, and somehow PUSHES it on the kids, which is the argument usually used AGAINST gays teaching, and YOU are using to suggest that this cop is unqualified to teach because of an unrelated activity that you have no evidence is introduced in any way into the classroom. SEE?

Calling me "ignorant" doesn't make me so, but name-calling is hardly a good role-model activity; the bible says that calling someone "fool" is a mortal sin.

Yes, the men SHOULD be held accountable (who said otherwise, strawslinger?), which is why the EPD and village board will review and decide what if any should be the consequences.

And characterizing a whole village with a nasty sweeping generalization is again hardly the mark of a "role model" person! And HOW am I an "infested" person?

Again, you keep claiming *I* am "defending" them! I am defending THEIR RIGHTS, as I would treat anyone, to be treated fairly and justly according to the applicable rules and policies. What do YOU have against "innocent until proven guilty"?

I don't fall into any of the mentioned categories. But we don't need a narrow-minded prejudiced bigot who doesn't believe in the rights of the accused to be fairly treated in Ellenville, so please stay away, OK?

This is not about the international war on drugs, Krulick. This is about a "cop"/ "teacher" whose race probably figured prominently in procuring, and keeping both of these jobs, who really wants to identify with the drug/"gangsta" culture, while enjoying an elevated status as a "respected" citizen. In other words, he wants it both ways. What a precious representative of 'DARE'. Bleeders like you, Krulick, who cannot call a spade a spade, are the very reason the inmates are running the asylum, and this country's going to hell. Felony behavior, no. But his behavior makes him a liability to impressionable school kids, and a disgrace to the badge.

Personally, I think DARE is a joke, particularly as the evidence from studies shows it to be ineffective; it's just part of "Drug War Theater," and a way to channel money to local govts to keep the whole show running on.

And I don't care what YOU think anything is about; since the "War on Drugs" is an expensive failed sham, a cruel means to target certain persons disproportionately for non-violent activities (which bogus created "war" is the only reason violence from it exists; since Prohibition has ended, you don't see gangs machine-gunning each other down over beer or rum, do ya?)

And THAT is the spade YOU can't seem to address.

No, the psychopaths are running the government and businesses because THOSE traits are what our warped society worships and they have the lack of compassion and empathy that lets them run roughshod over anyone else who gets in their way. It's a much bigger picture than just one village and a couple of cops.

The country has been going to hell for a long time because greed, ignorance, racism, cruelty, sexism, and apathy are the leading traits of too many, and the wealthy psychos who own most of anything worth owning have bought all levels of government to get even more. Oh, and peak oil and peak resources and the theft of tens of trillions of dollars is behind much of what is happening, not that you'll see it on the evening news.

Worrying about a cop in a video when there is so much more that sucks way worse is trivial at best. I'm more worried that the impressions kids get from lying politicians and celebrities has far more impact on them. As for the cop, I still say, let the department and village board review the details and then we can see if they did THEIR job in getting to the bottom of it.

YOU should be worried about what YOUR local officers and local school teachers are up to since you care about the Ellenville community. That is a MAJOR part of the COMMUNITY!!
Wouldn't your WIFE agree???

All you do is copy and paste, mudslingingmuch?!!

Whenever the topic of Ellenville is mentioned (near and dear to you, I guess?) you don't like the direction or opinion, you call whomever a bigot. Is that your only way to address people?
Yours truly, "my new names" (you gave me) a narrow-minded prejudiced bigot who doesn't believe in the rights of the accused to be fairly treated in Ellenville.(Lmfao)

THE END. I've giving you enough of my narrow-minded opinion as you would say..and don't you worry you're safe having those officers patrolling YOUR neighborhood and I hope you sleep well tonight after your dose of Ambien. I know I will ;)

Of course I'm concerned about what local police and teachers are up to, strawslinger; why would you think otherwise? But I am not a hand-wringing nailbiter who lacks perspective and who can't wait for due process without having a cow. And I don't have to consult my wife to have an opinion, but I don't notice her becoming a manic hysteric over this issue either.

ALL I do (there's that absolutism!) is copy and paste? WHERE in the above is ANY copy/pasting? ANY?!!! Where is the mudslinging? What planet are you texting in from?

Say did you happen to notice that *I* am the listed EDITOR for Topix's Ellenville section? So why shouldn't I be involved in whatever is on it or its forum? Sheesh! Part of getting persons to stay interested and come back is to keep discussion lively, and maybe question or challenge opinions, ya think?("If everyone is thinking the same thing, someone isn't thinking" ~ Gen. George S. Patton.)

No, strawslinger, what you claim is NOT my "only way to address people." I rarely call ANYONE a bigot, but if the shoe fits, as one can surmise from the sweeping generalizations about Ellenville as found above, then so be it.

I don't take drugs to sleep, as a clear conscience is the best palliative. And I am currently avoiding the NY chill in Florida, but I regularly count on the Ellenville police to do their house-check duties when I'm away, so I rest easy here too, and we always wave and say "Hi" to each other when I'm in town. Having served on the Village Board some years back, I got to see the regular monthly reports of the police department, and it is incredible how many various and diverse tasks they perform and incidents they respond to for such a small department in such a small village, and most residents wouldn't want to do without their services, even though it is a significant part of the local budget.

Hello? "MRS." Krulick has nothing to do with this forum or the posts on it. Why would you even assume so?

In any event, both she and I have very active lives, diverse and fulfilling. Why don't YOU keep your ignorant and impudent opinions to yourself until you can get your facts straight?

Ellenville board OKs discipline for 2 cops

By Jeremiah Horrigan
Times Herald-Record
Published: 2:00 AM - 03/14/13

ELLENVILLE The Village Board has backed disciplinary proceedings taken against two police officers after their images were identified in a hip-hop video extolling drugs.

Mayor Jeff Kaplan said the disciplinary action was taken following an investigation by village police Chief Phil Mattracion, in which it was found the officers had not broken any laws.

Kaplan declined to provide the names of the officers or the nature of the punishment proposed by Mattracion and approved by the Village Board earlier this week, citing police contractual agreements and the officers' rights under the First Amendment.

Robert Freeman, executive director of the state's committee on Open Government, agreed that state civil rights law prohibits the public release of police records that are "used to evaluate performance."

"I'm happy this is all behind us now and I hope everyone has learned a lesson," Kaplan said. "Police officers need to be held to a higher standard, especially in terms of the public's perception and what can result in court cases."
