Here's one of those positive stories we say we'd like to see in our headlines once in a while as opposed to all the negative.
It started when Fawn Morosky had an idea to build a playground for the kids in Ellenville and it's surrounding communities. Her mother donated the first $250.00 to start the bank account.
The playground was professionally designed by playground engineers and estimated to cost around $130.000.00. It will even be accessible to wheel chairs so all can enjoy.
Since then a small group of ladies & gentlemen and children have raised just over $20,000.00 (twenty thousand dollars) with donation containers in local stores, bake sales, barbecues, yard sales, tag days, a spaghetti dinner, concessions tables at the farmers market, the flag football field, the street fairs and the festivals, like the Jenny Bell Pie Festival & Ell. Blueberry Festival, etc.
Also another 10 thousand dollars pledged by the Police Athletic League still to come + a 25 thousand dollar matching grant from the N.Y.S. Parks & Recreation dept. brings the total to date just over 55 thousand raised.
Even if they only raise 40 or 50 dollars as they sometimes do they don't get discouraged. They just keep on chuggin along dollar by dollar or penny by penny if necessary. None of them take a penny for themselves. Every penny they raise goes to the playground. It's truly a great unselfish cause. All they think about is getting this built for the kids.
They hope to begin building the first week of June 2008 so lets help them reach their goal as quick as possible and maybe they will be able to take a well deserved rest for a week or 2 before the big build.
The Ellenville village treasurer monitors the bank account and all donations are tax deductible.
So if you can donate a dollar or 2 it would be great.
And even if you can donate baked goods or volunteer somehow, especially for build day that would be great to.
Anyway the Ellenville Playground Project website,
http://evpark.tripod.com/ will explain it better then me.
They have lots of ways you can help make the playground a great success for the kids.
incase my above link didnt work you can cut and paste this ----> http://evpark.tripod.com/
thanks all
