But some other Eastern Washington lawmakers say it would be a dangerous mistake.

It figures that Western Washington law makers would want to ban studded tires since they never come over east of the mountains. Mainly though what are you going to tell all the out of state people that shop and work in washington? "So sorry but we don't want your business if you have studded tires". I would tear up any ticket you attempted to give me since I live in Idaho and we know how to use the right materials on the roads. Maybe if washington stopped using second grade materials you wouldn't have the problem. Cut out the fat in your budget instead of coming up with idiot laws.

Ban the tires on the westside of the State south of Mt Vernon and leave the North and Eastside of the State alone.

I'm curious about these "right" materials you Idahoans are using. Please elaborate.

chains cause more damage to roads then the studded tires and is putting people lives in danger you could get killed putting on chains. More laws more taxes and more bull crap.Studded tires save lives and have saved my life more then ones. We pay tax on every thing. These bill passers need to get a life. Has this guy put on chains. I am disabled and you want me to chain up I travel to OREGON,WASHINGTON and IDAHO. Over the snow and ice covered road ways.

I hope they ban studs. they're noisey, and we the tire installers dont like to put them on. When you buy new ones we have to put the studs in with a small stud gun. It takes extra time putting tires on and they cut up our hands. Then people complain when they're studs aren't perfect in the holes and then we have to rip them out and do it over, more time wasted. In all actuallity studs on small cars dont work that well because you end up skating on them. If you want an actual snow tire consider buying Bridgestone Blizzaks, they are way better than studs. The tread compound is of a foamy rubber feel. the more they wear down the stickier they get. but the draw back is when the temp outside gets above 50 you have to take them off otherwise they wear down very quikly.
