She can't refuse money! No matter in what domination. I don't think the Government worker knew how to count. If she wants to refuse such kind of payment she should put up a sign. That what Ohio does. Which some are put up without registering it with the right agencie! Prime example TWP Speed Signs. Some Twp don't register it with the State so it's not Law.Just some Politicians that think they know the Law because they won by being popular in there County,TWP,State,or Nation elections!

She should have taken the pennies, counted one hundred every day until they were gone and then fined the guy for a late tax payment. This was obviously a political publicity stunt and not a very original one at that. Where in the hell do you get 33,000 pennies?

Political publicity stunt?...counted 100 every day and then fined for a late payment...WOW, who are you?(Please stay far, far away from me!) If I had a $35 tax bill morph into $330 in a few months, I'd be "protesting" too. And, who doesn't know banks have counting machines, I just took a bottle of change to my bank and they counted it - for free!

Backfire ? No, I think he's made his point. And he's made national news. Well worth $34 and that's if he throws the coins in the trash.

Gee, maybe the treasurer's office didn't have a counting machine. How long did it take the clown to save up 33,000 pennies? A few months? He went to alot of trouble for 35 dollars. Don't worry about me staying away from you, I don't frequent roadside rest areas.

Wow! You know what Jesus thinks and wants? Who ARE you, his wife Mary Magdalene? I'll have you know that he told me that I could use his name. After all, he only speaks to two people, me and George W. Bush.

Fire the treasurer for refusing to accept legal tender as payment. It is not the taxpayer's problem that the treasurer was incompetent and unable to count the legal tender. Public servants SERVE THE PUBLIC - it is not the other way around.

The Treasurer stated that she didn't have the staff to count it, not that she was incompetent or unable to. Do you want smaller government or not? You can't have it both ways.

Most taxpayers do not personally make their payments in large amounts of coin. As such, most small tax offices do not require a coin counter. Most banks will not accept unrolled coins, if there is enough to be rolled. Banks know that having their staff count unrolled coins is time consuming and takes staff away from other duties.
Just because a citizen wants to be an asshole doesn't mean the public servant has to bend over and take it.

33,000 pennies equal $330, which must be the original bill plus "the fines he incurred by failing to pay a $34 bill that was due in April." as stated in the article.

First of all the rest of the story is when the lazy government employee started counting with her toes the area was declared a hazardous material run because of her funky smell.

She should be relieved of her job it shows the lazy mentally unstable kind of employees our municipalities are hired for these important jobs.

Sad how sad her 5th grader called off from worker that day this wasn't the only thing that went wrong in the office.

The pennies ARE money. He appeared and paid in LEGAL TENDER. It IS her responsibility to accept LEGAL TENDER. Her fat lazy a.. was too lazy to accept his CASH in a form that wasn't convenient TO HER. If she had ANY brains, which she obviously does not, her fat lazy a.. could have gotten a scale anywhere in the building,(DUH, you mean like a "postal scale") weighed 100 pennies, obtained the weight, weighed the rest and divided by 100 and would not have to "count" the pennies. This would only take a matter of minutes. She has a typical bureaucrat mentality that the public is there to serve her fat lazy a.., not the other way around. SHE SHOULD BE FIRED, his fines should be waived for the hassle she unjustifiably gave him, she certainly OWES him an apology, with fines and interest of course.
