Bunch of crazy "washed out hippies" trying to steal the limelight from the coal mines. Their skanky dirt is totally different from a coal miners dirt. It's from not having time to take a bath because you're too busy poking your nose in a business you know nothing about, because you're more than likely on welfare or retired and have no need for a job. Like that 80 something year old man that came from somewhere else. Then a bunch of young people "hippies in training", because they don't want or aren't smart enough to further their education or they find out they can get their fame by getting arrested and being on TV. That is what is wrong with this country now, people "nosing" in other peoples business and destroying peoples "livlihoods" just to make a name for themselves!
I think "they" are called finaglers.

All of you know, deep down, that mountaintop removal mining is wrong. People may have become economically dependent upon it, but it is still wrong.

Here's food for thought. The Liberals do not want to end coal mining, but own and control coal mining. They do not want coal mining or any other business and industry in the USA privately owned but they want it socialised meaning owned by the government. They want everything socialised, meaning owned by the government, voila, Marxism, Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism at its best for them, worst for us. Keep resisting them and their agenda, West Virginians. Vote every Socialist out of office whether at the federal, state, county or local level. In case you haven't noticed the Democratic Party has become what I call the ASP, American Socialist Party. It started back in the days of Woodrow Wilson and Colonel Edward House and got on fasttrack during the regime of FDR.In case you do not know, Europe, to the Europeans does not end at the Atlantic Ocean but ends at the Pacific Coast of North America which, in European geography, includes the USA. What is happening in the USA now is a conflict between the Moslems to destroy the USA and the Europeans to incorporate the USA into the USE, the United States of Europe. So let's see who wins, the Moslems, the Europeans or us, the American people. Have a great day.
It'll be the poor who wins it all...

The peopleof the coal River Valley go to sleep tonight with Massey blasting 100 yards from a coal slurry dam with 8 billion gallons of sludge behind it. If this dam fails it can be catastrophic. It is an earthen dam and theD.E.P approved the permit anyway. The Governor even refused to stop it. The people down this river are in mortal danger.

One person cannot stop this. It takes the voters of WVA voting these people out of office and voting people into office who are concerned about the lives of fellow West Virginians and stopping this insanity of endangering many lives for the money. Massey and others of their ilk have the money to buy the favours of a lot of people in elected offices because a tier of professional politicians who do this for a living have evolved from American politics. They are in politics for the money and do not give a whit about the people they were supposed to represent the interests of. The Byrds, Rockefellers and others of their ilk have served their own interests and not the interests of West Virgininans. Ask yourselves, does the governor of WVA give a hoot about the people below the dam? Does the governor care about WVA and her citizens?

Move if you don't like the area you live..if you don't like the ppl., drugs, traffic noise, trains, planes, shopping malls goin in, interstates, bars, pig farm, chemical plant or the slurry dam, etc.i could go on for days, but i believe you get my point. Things change, ppl. change & life changes! Everything we do hurts the enviroment i'm sure everyone reading this is contributing to the mountain of trash we have created. Hey we won't worry about the fact that they are shipping it to outerspace because the earth is so consumed of it.Do you shop at a shopping mall that took out a mountain to be created or drive on an interstate with the same issue. These problems are still being created everyday. Hell the last time i checked we could drive over a mountain hmm? The mall could be on a hill hmm? I don't think we would have faught any wars with wind mills huh? Pretty much took coal to run those ships. Anyone checked up on the SERIOUS problem we are having with nuclear waste we burry it in drums and then cover it in concrete. We have to check it constantly because it is radioactive. Well needless to say it always leaks EVERYTIME and we keep applying more and more concrete to it. Wouldn't this seap into the ground with the rain or without it and poison out water? As i said before i could go on for days about things that i think are important to the environment some are more than others i jus don't see something being planted back with trees and grass is as important as other things i have stated to our health!

You people who worship Don and Massey-go to Grist.Org and listen to the two guards who were at the tree huggers' protest. They quit and walked away because they didn't approve of the way these people were treated. Thank God we still have people in this country that have principles.

I'm a college student from VA doing a thesis project on coal in West Virginia and I'm trying to interview people on both sides of this issue (environmentalists and Massey employees/wives). I want to represent everyone's arguments fairly but so far I have not found any people from the Massey side who are willing to be interviewed. Does anyone here know of anyone who might be interested in talking to me? I'd like to speak with a woman if possible... either a female employee or a wife (I'm a woman too, and I'm trying to collect mostly female stories).
If anyone reading this post knows someone who might be interested, please reply to me and we'll get in touch! Thanks so much.

The land, the people, and the environment is the sacrifice to the coal barons for a few temporary jobs. The Governor referred to us as an extractive State, and I would like to extract him and ship him to Alaska. If I have anything to do with it he will never hold another elective office in this State. The way this man sucks up to the coal operators is a crying shame. Where did the people down here in the coal fields get lost in the shuffle?
Why don't you just stick to your job of sucking up for promotions. You don't even live in this area anymore. Is this all you have left to do in your life since the real nemesis went away? Or isn't there enough trouble to stir up on your job as usual? Or have you run out of people to harass there?

I know the jobs are important, but enough mountaintop removal has taken place. Several months ago my wife and I were out for a Sunday drive. We drove out the road past the Mt. Olive prison. There's a strip mine out there. The scope of the destruction is astonishing - you have to see it to believe it. There has to be a better way.
You should be more concerned with what the employees inside of that prison are doing rather than what is going on around outside it.
And yes, why don't you move to yellow stone? Nobody bitched when they razed the top of that mountain for that prison.
