Just wanted to see what everyone has to say about Maranatha Baptist Church, the affiliated school, the affiliated college and their leaders.

I too went to that church/school and hated it. the "head master" was whack, made us do the stupidest things. He caused me to be spanked one time and was I ever mad!!! I walked out of the school and he came after me and during the process met up with my mother :) NOT good. I started skipping school because I HATED it there so much!!! Wonder if anything changed?? I sure hope so!!! Most of all I hated the little "cliques" and how if you was not "IN" one of those "cliques" you was not "IN" at all.

My neighbors sent 4 kids there.. the kids learned little other than memorizing the bible. They all (parents too) are sorry for the experience. I wouldn't sent my cat there. It's a hick hill billy money making scheme for the old Rev and his son ... neither have ever worked a day in their lives. they prey on the week minded who go to that rats nest.

it`s not a cult but all of those people want is your money, because the are to lazy to get out and get a real job,a pastor is no better than you or me it`s just thats he gets a big fat check to get up in church and talk about the bible for an hour or two,do you really know what kind of person he is probably a bigger sinner than you are it`s just that he hides behind the bible,I gave money to that church for years until I found out that most of it was going into that fatcat pastors pocket,he don`t care anything about those people that go to that church,he just uses them to fatten his bank account.

It's a cult...do not send your kids or animals there. They will brainwash you and tear you down. They lie and manipulate their students and members. I attended from 1988-1995 and am just recently getting over the experience.

Yes, I used to go to church. That was before church became an income for cult leaders. This particular church will do anything to dig deep in your pockets and take everything you have - for the church. Yeah, right, for the Lord's ministry. NOPE. It's so that the money-grubbing preacher can pass himself off as a christian. Jesus was poor. If he lived today, would he drive a big expensive car? No. Would he live in a nice big house? No. He would live simply and not charge people to hear his word.

Thanks to this church, I WILL NEVER set foot in another one. Maybe I'll go to hell, but at least my family will have enough money to bury me!

Perhaps someone needs to bug the Whig into investigating and writing an expose' article exposing Maranatha for what it is .. just for the sake of children there. I wonder if they spank or otherwise hit kids there? If so, it is legally abuse and it needs to stop.

Coolmind...I sent a letter with detailed explanations of how MBC and it's academy treat their students, members, and their own children to the Cecil Whig now I'm just waiting to see what they do with it...I just sent it about a week ago so it's a waiting game.

You can be certain that the whig will not publish your letter and they won't investigate anything.

I'm sure they won't and actually didn't really expect them to because I'm sure Maranatha has got their hands somewhere in the Cecil Whig. The Cecil Whig SHOULD publish and SHOULD investigate because it is in the best interest of the people, LINDA P! I sure would like to know how you have this such emphatic information...in just knowing that they will not publish or investigate???

that one "head master" that they had there, that Johnson dude. I could not stand him. he made me SO mad. I walked out of that school one day because of him, and he came after me, I wonder what he would have done to me had my mother not have found me beside the road? and he made the music teacher spank me for NO good reason one time. I was furious. It is the MAIN reason I quit school at an early age. that and they made us go to THAT church instead of being able to go to our own place of worship. i really hope that things have changed in the years since I have been there, if not then I really feel sorry for the kids that go there!!!

I just recently graduated from there and i went there from kindergarten all the way through and hated every last second i was in that horrible place. i received no education, the only thing i got from that place was a bigger hatred for religion. the pastor and headmasters were crazy and all they care about is the money. i graduated may of 2010 and have not stepped foot back in that place since.

I went to the church from 1984-2000. My family and I never felt welcomed- even trying to reach out to other members and attend their church events. We attended public school and wore slacks so we were looked at like the enemy. Yes, the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached there- but in an angry, hell-fire, legalistic way. For example, most of the men in the church would shave their necks up to the bottom of their ears due to a message that Al Dickerson preached about appropriate male hair length.(I have many more examples but not enough space to share them all.) Growing up in that church was the main reason I hated God for many years. If He wanted His people to act that way, then I did not want anything to do with Him. I am grateful every day that God can do His will in spite of people who "come in His name." I, myself, am just a sinner saved by grace but I pray every day that I will never treat anyone like that church treated me and my family for so many years. I know nothing of the new pastor who came in spring of 2012 so I do not know where that man will lead the congregation. I pray that it is in a different direction with different attitudes than Al Dickerson led. The saddest part is that I know that many people were turned away from Christ because they set foot in that place. I pray that God reveals Himself to each person who has stumbled through that door through His inerrant word, other churches, and other Christ-followers who love Him! If you visit the church and do not feel like the whole truth is given and that God's love cannot shine through then please search out another church. There are other churches (other denominations as well) in the area that preach the truth of the gospel along with the truth that we all are worthy of nothing but Hell without Christ. The fact is that the gospel can be preached in love. See Ephesians 4:15. I now live in Ohio and attend an evangelical Presbyterian church and am so blessed! I am more grateful for this loving family of believers because I experienced the hatefulness of Maranatha Baptist Church. I give God the glory for bringing me out of that spiritually dark place.
