This is bullshit! Now other parents who abuse their child/ren are going to expect the same treatment. The wrong people on the jury panel were choosen or they are just losers!

She should get life for this crime. These women tht protect these no good men for a child should get the same punishment he does.

the father got 25 years for puching a 5 week old baby in the head, and the mother who did absolutly nothing to try and save this innocent child got 3 years. i think she is just as gulity as the father and should have been sentenced just as the father was. she was his mother and had the responsiblity of protecting him and she failed miserably.

I DONT REALLY KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN,REALLY.AS A MOTHER,IM OUTRAGED,SHOCKED,SAD...AND TO BE BLUNT-EXTREMELY PISSED OFF THAT THIS "THING" IS GOING TO BE OUT ON THE STREETS,RUNNING AROUND,HAVING FUN,DOING DRUGS,WHILE THAT PRECIOUS BABY LIES BENEATH US IN A COLD GRAVE.WHY?NOT ONLY BECAUSE THE BABYS FATHER BEAT HIM,BUT BECAUSE THIS PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A MOTHER-LET HIM DO HIM.SHE MIGHT AS WELL HAVE DONE IT HERSELF.AS A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY-NOT TERRI-IVE SAT AND LISTENED TO THE HORRIFYING DETAILS OF CALOBS LAST FEW DAYS,AND TO THINK ABOUT HOW THAT BABY SUFFERED TREMENDOUSLY,UNABLE TO TELL ANYONE WHAT HE WAS FEELING,UNABLE TO BEG FOR HELP...WELL,IT CONTINUES TO BREAK AWAY LITTLE PIECES OF MY HEART.IVE BEEN KNOWN TO SPEAK MY OPINION...SO HERE IT IS...SOMEONE NEEDS TO HOLD TERRI DOWN AND DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING TO HER...OVER AND OVER,WHILE HOLDING A PICTURE OF THAT PRECIOUS BABYS FACE IN FRONT OF HER.MAKE HER FEEL WHAT HE DID WITH EVERY BLOW,AND THEN LEAVE HER.I HOPE THE SOUND OF CALOBS VOICE HAUNTS HER,I HOPE EVERY TIME SHE CLOSES HER EYES,SHE SEES CALOBS...STARING DOWN AT HER.AND I HOPE ONE SWEET DAY-WHEN HER DISGUSTING,WORTHLESS LIFE IS OVER,THE GOOD LORD STOPS HER AT HEAVENS GATE WITH CALOB IN HIS ARMS AND TURNS HER AWAY.AND ALL THE ONES THAT LOVE CALOB,FRIENDS,FAMILY,AND STRANGERS CAN STAND THERE AND WATCH HER BURN.THE SAME GOES FOR BILLY.BOTH OF THEM ARE A WASTE OF SPACE,AND DONT DESERVE THE AIR WE BREATH.I HOPE THE JOKE THEY CALL THE CECIL COUNTY JUDICIAL SYSTEM FEELS GOOD ABOUT LETTING A MONSTER GO....BUT HELL,-THEY CAN GO HOME AND KISS THEIR BABYS GOOD NIGHT,SO WHY SHOULD IT MATTER TO THEM.I HAVE ONE LAST THING TO SAY...TERRI'S LAST NAME MAY BE RUST....BUT I KNOW SOME OF THE RUSTS,AND THEIR GOOD PEOPLE,-NOT MURDERERS.THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO IS KEEPING CALOB ALIVE IN THEIR HEARTS.

A grown man punching a five week old baby in the head? Someone should tear his ball sack off and feed it to him.

This was an absolutely AWFUL case to go through, and the jury did the best that they could. UNFORTUNATELY, the way the laws are worded & the charges against her, the jury was unable to convict her. Trust me when I say, the jury had/has extreme heartache coming to the grips with the verdict.....they wanted to convict her of all 5 counts & send her away FOREVER. They all have the EXACT same feelings that all of you have - she should NEVER get a second chance, that poor baby surely didn't. But, the wording of the law didn't allow for them to throw the book at her. The jury knew in their hearts/gut that Ms. Rust was not a "victim" or as innocent as the defense made her out to be........but, they could only use the evidence presented & the prosecution didn't point out any of her other issues/trials/problems. The jury never felt sorry for her & again, SO BADLY wanted to come back with a "GUILTY" verdict on EVERYTHING....but they just couldn't. TRUST ME - they are NOT happy about it.

As comment 7 stated, the charges against the accused are worded in a way that does not allow for conviction. The members of the jury were required to make their decision based on the evidence presented and the letter of the law. no more/no less. The hearts of the jury still weigh heavy.

Unless you were there to sit through 3 gruling days of the trial, hear from both sides, see/hear all evidence, see the definitions of the laws & each charge....you really shouldn't comment on the decision of the jury and the CC judicial system. This was a very difficult case/situation and the jury did a FANTASTIC job. The people on the jury come from a variety of backgrounds, with diverse experiences and education levels, and who are all very intelligent. Please don't question their capability or intelligence. There is more to the WHOLE picture, than just what the public sees/knows.
