BULLETIN: Cecil County Commissioners Blasted on "Tier"...

There are 4 comments on the The Cecil Times story from Sep 4, 2012, titled BULLETIN: Cecil County Commissioners Blasted on "Tier".... In it, The Cecil Times reports that:

An overflow crowd of several hundred people jammed the main meeting room and hallways at the county office building in Elkton Tuesday night, as farmers and property rights advocates condemned a proposed 'tier" land preservation map supported by a three-vote majority of the Cecil County Commissioners.

Audience members yawning during the morning session! Gasping during the evening session! Call security! Mullin can't control Broomell so he lashes out at the audience. Broomell is right and an overflow crowd is wrong.

Was there a sighting of Delegate Smigiel or Senator Pipkin?

Pipkin and Smigiel were absent from the meeting. Smigiel had said previously that he would not speak against the proposed map and indicated that he did not see a reason to oppose it. Broomell claimed that she wanted less land not more in tier 4. However, she was the one who led the effort to change the initial map submitted by the county planning and zoning department so that much more land would be placed in tier 4. As of about a week ago, after getting a lot of negative feedback and experiencing a tractor rally by the farmers in protest of her proposed map, she began to whistle a different tune. Although she was quick to lash out at me last night and dispute the facts on the record (see links below), she has not yet committed to moving in a new direction to redraw the lines on the map. She has an opportunity to do the right thing on behalf of the citizens, and she has the votes to support her in that effort (Mullin and Dunn). She has led the effort so far in determining how the map will look, so the responsibility for the final map that is adopted will lie at her feet.

Mullin has stated that he wants to call for a vote on the mandated tier map at the September 18th meeting. The citizens deserve a chance to voice their opinion on the latest map drafted by the Planning Commission, which is in line with the Comprehensive Plan. Mullin apparently wants this vote taken now because he leaves office before the state deadline of December 31st. Broomell should show some leadership and allow for consideration of the latest draft map. Where is her "transparency and accountability". She and Mullin have forgotten all about their "due diligence" posturing.
