I am for Dan Kiger....A good man for the job. As far as the substation idea? Well, it was last talked about be Bill Hall several years ago. The idea then was to get agreements with the volunteer fire departments to allow the sheriff's department to have a small desk/office in there to do the paperwork and to meet with people in the community, instead of having to run back and forth to dobson all the time from different places in the county. So I see this idea as a cost savings to me, a tax payer.

As far as the debate about the cars. There isnt a need to have certain people, detectives, and others drive a crown vic. The reason why most patrol officers drive a large sedan is the cage, radios, and the amount of stuff that they have to carry with them. These other officers do not carry that much equipment, and would be more able to use a smaller, more fuel efficient vehicle for their duties. Again, a savings that I support as a tax payer.

As far as the reserve deputies. They are trained just to the same standards as a full time deputy. They have the same authority, and can be a huge asset to the county working special events. Being able to fill in and answer calls when the Sheriff has them work, and they can do anything a full time deputy can. It is also a huge asset to have a hiring pool of reserve deputies to be able to hire a full time person from since they are already known, trained, and familier with the department. Again, another cost saving.

And, just like in the paper today, you see a drug bust. Right before election time. COnvienient? Yep, to gather votes, and then its back to normal again.... Dan is who we need. Do I like him personally? Not really. Do I think he has good ideas and is bringing more options to the table? Yes. Thats why I support him over Graham who I do know and like personally. Graham is to inside the box, and Dan is looking at it from the outside.

For someone with 30 years with the patrol (Kiger), it is quite telling that you see no signs at current and former troopers homes, except one. There are 20+ troopers assigned to this county at any given time. That should be an obvious sign for what his former / fellow employess "know" and "think" about him.
As to the Dobson Mafia, he killed himself a few years back. As to the Tores there is fact and inuendo. Anyone commenting here about him, if you know for a fact something is going on have some guts and go on record with law enforcement or stay hid behind your computer anonymous and 'ass'ume. And yes his business is in the Mt Airy City Limits...

Isn't Mt.Airy in Surry County?.. Just wondering why a couple of the posters would think that the votes from Mt.Airy do not matter.

Yep voted for Graham, I can't understand how anyone could think that a washed up trooper who couldn't even do that job well could run a sheriff's Department. Don't forget what we use to have people! Oh yea last time i checked running for Sheriff is actually Politics.

Ok in case you dont know, officers rarely go to the office anymore. They created this cool thing called a Computer and put them in cars so officers can do everything from there.
Also when was the last time you looked at the equipment needed by a Detective, they need a school bus. Givem trash to work with and you will get trashy performance.
Oh yeah, last time i checked workers comp insurance, uniforms, equipment cost just as much for a part time worker as it does for full time. Now there's a good idea, ask unpaid, untrained, under qualified part timer's to protect the county you care so much about. There is a lot to consider with CHANGE and i dont think you people are thinking.

Bottom line is Pay them well and give them the best equipment you can and you can expect quality performance. Dan's idea actually sounds stupid to me.
