Kiger's programs and goals listed on his website sound well in theory...however, how does he plan on implementing them? Or better yet how does he plan on paying for them? On his website he lists substations as one of his goals, to design, construct, and outfit a substation is not cheap. In his letter to the Mount Airy News announcing his candidacy he states the need for more training for officers, once again this is an issue of money. Mr Kiger can claim he can bring in training at no cost however, that seems unlikely and also goes against his own policy of performance not politics, having officers trained free of cost through conections is purely policital and leaves you to wonder exactly what will be the cost of this free training? Will it be political favors? At a Tea Party Forum Mr. Kiger stated he wanted a crime scene investigation unit for surry county...thats a great idea however, can Surry County attract qualifed applicants for this type of job? Keeping the Sheriffs Office opened 24/7 will require the hiring of more employees which will cost the county more money. Mr Kiger needs to either explain how he plans to implement these programs with a limited budget in a poor county or he needs to give the public ideas on how to effectivily patrol and cut costs not increase them.

Oh, I see. Vote for Kiger/Atkinson for Sheriff b/c of political party or because they go to church. How sweet. What happened to voting for the best person for the job? Politics should not be a basis for voting for a sheriff. Regardless, people will and the sad part is they are voting for a party instead of a person. If we focus our votes on the person who I believe has done an excellent job, then Sheriff Atkinson we will see you for another term. I expect that the citizens of Surry County agree.
