Thats because anyone with any sense gets out of here as quickly as possible. Our poor little city, it has so much potential. It's a shame that so many people are against progress and change. People want to go on and on about dope, but all you narrow-minded folks out there are an even bigger problem. Think about this, people using drugs (usually) only affects those close to them. The people I refer to, they affect everyone. Not only everyone here now, but our grandchildren and their grandchildren and who knows how many generations to come.

You have no idea if I am narrow minded or not. I stated the truth. Is it not.. I didn't mention anything about change and the future. I simply stated what actually happens here now after dark, or hell happens every where at any time. I've seen transactions at Velocity almost every time I go there. In order to change, you'd have to address the problems first. We are losing generations to this problem. How could change happen if all you have to work with doesn't want to change?

This is exactly the type of reply I expected to see. "Its the dopers, its 'em 'ere druggies!" Wanna talk about losing generations, I graduated around 15 yrs ago. Maybe 15% of my class are still here. My sister, around 10 yrs ago, same thing with her class. News flash 'ere buddy, drugs are a problem everywhere you go. It just seems so out of control here because, like I said before, anyone with any sense leaves asap! What have you got left?

drugs arent the reason ec hasnt grown, every city and every state in america has a drug problem, the reason ec hasnt grown is the old fashioned, outdated ideas of its council members...and the fact that they, like the usa government and most other communities allow themselves to be puppets to the churches.
any time any business that the elders see as unfit would try to open, u would see protests, and u would hear rumblings in the meetings and there would be bugs planted in ears....
a friend of mine had a business in ec a few years back and it did ok, not great...but, they went out of business and they asked another business owner to try to sell some of their leftover items for them in their shop and that person began to lose customers and was told that word was going around that some of the items being sold were drug paraphelnalia, and that the types of customers coming in to buy it were covered in tattoos and biker types...so the old fashioned, stick in the muds got their way and that person stopped selling the items, which were not related to drugs, but was related to biking...
so, that is why ec will never amount to anything more than it is...narrow minded views

Not all Council members kiss the churches ass. I know of one who fights to move this area forward every day, but the people if Elkhorn resent him for it. I wish he would run for mayor but I heard he isn't going to run again to hold his seat on the City Council.

What a shame, we need more leaders like him, but, the backward people of this area are happy with what they have, nothing. And, if anyone tries to make things better in any way they are riddiculed and run down by those that don't want any better for themselves or anyone else.

Oh hell...I'm NOT your "buddy"...I guess you said it--you have no sense. Why are you still here???... Stop "trying" to act like you know me so well. We are the same age. I know what's happening here. Stop acting as though I have no education. I'd be willing to bet I have as much or more than you. Why are you trying your best to put me down? I merely responded and you go on attack mode. Don't respond to me and expect me to back down and bow. I won't. I know drugs are a problem everywhere. The little town of EC is full of the dopers. It is the majority and not minority. Therefore; address the HUGE issues first and go on down....

I know who you are talking about and I wasn't aware that there was a problem with her selling those items. Thanks for letting me know. The next time I speak to her, I'll ask.

i know who u speak of and i agree, when he tried to get the city to make a major change, that would have helped us so much and not really have made that big of a social impact, he was ostracized, his whole family too and called every name in the book...god has given us one of the most beautiful areas on the earth, we just havent learned how to utilize it, look at the smokey mts, u go there and its so beautiful, and when your in the mts u think u are in a lost time, but, just down the road is pigeon forge and gatlinburg and u can have a beer or a glass of wine and u dont see ppl out in the streets fighting or shooting or any of that, ec needs to look around and see what a gold mine they are sitting on and their wasting it

there wasnt a problem, it was just a choice few, they started letting their tounges wag that if u looked at a few items they werent kosher to the old church hens points of view as to what should be in ec and a few ppl stopped going there

Why am I still here? I've lived in SC for the last 12 yrs. I came back because my parents are ill and despite my best efforts, they wont move with me, so here I am.
I'm not trying to act like I know you personally. I'm describing a very large group of people in our city, but if the shoe fits... Your education? I have no clue what kind of education you have, nor do I care. Check this out, you're smarter than I am, how's that? You're bird is bigger. This isnt a pissing contest. I'm not trying to put anyone down nor am I on "attack mode", just trying to get some people to open their eyes for the sake of our future.
One last thing, why cant we be buddies? Is it because I dont think the same way as you? I say again, typical ;)

I grew up in EC and got out as soon as possible. there is no way i would raise children there. if you think that EC doesnt have a drug issue, you are in denial. it is worse there than any other place i have ever lived. I go back to visit relatives often and am saddened to see and hear of people i went to school with, people who had tons of potential, strung out on drugs. There are no jobs in pike county and there is nothing to do but watch the grass grow.
