In response to the many retorts to my post, this is not a perfect world. There will always be substandard pre-schools, along with anything else. But just because you've had one bad experience doesn't mean all pre-schools are bad or going to pre-school is bad. Google 'pros and cons of pre-schools' and learn for yourself. And, yes, any responsible parent/guardian will monitor any child's school, friends, activities, etc.
As for the jabs at single parents - you may recall that there are 2 wars going on and we have lost over 4,000 soldiers, many of whom left behind families. These widows and widowers did not choose to be single parents. And they are not all 'abusing the system.' Those of you who blindly accused single parents of this are doing our fallen soldiers and their families a huge disservice. I have no patience or tolerance for ANYONE who abuses the welfare benefits and other state/federal assistance. Be carful who you lump into any group. And to those of you who can afford to quit working and be 'stay-at-home' parents, more power to you. Many single parents do not have that option for a variety of reasons. Rather than condemning them for doing the best they can for their children in their given difficult circumstances, how about counting your blessings and showing some compassion instead. |

Sadly, most of today's young parents were raised in pre-schools because their own mothers/fathers worked and there was no one to stay home w/ them. A lot of these now grown children have zero homemaking and parenting skills and consider it quite normal to work, send their kids off to pre-school without ever researching the school, feed their families fast foods w/ little nutrition, and then drug their kids w/ ritalin, etc., when their little bodies rebel against poor nutrition, poor parenting, and poor schooling. And then they grow into big bodies, and their poor upbringing becomes everyone else's problem.
This pre-school in Watsonville "served" over 100 children. That qualifies as an "institution" in my book. Any parent who thinks their kids got quality care there, while they, the parents, were off working, is a parent who knows zilch about quality parenting, probably because their own parents were equally poor examples. Monkey see, monkey do. The South Sea Islanders were a very sexually active population, including teenagers, but their woman didn't become pregnant until they were mated and ready to become parents. They accomplished this through eating a certain food that interfered w/ fertility. When they were ready to assume parenthood, they stopped eating this food. And this food didn't cause cancer in later life, unlike being on artificial birth control pills for years on end will, at least for far too many women. |

In my above post, they deleted the word "monkey". Guess they have a creationist running the website.

Try try again. Will a "monk" with a "key" get through this time?

Ok, perhaps the adults got out of hand, but:
"...and put them on inappropriately long time outs..."??? You've got to be kidding! Between the ages of 4 and 10, the only "time out" I got was my mother knocking my a-s-s halfway across the room when I misbehaved. The lingering effects of that primarily include developing a healthy and functional sense of right and wrong. My mother could have done much good for most of the otherwise self important, entitled jerks running around today. |

My daughter was a student at Noahs Ark up until a few weeks ago. I'm very disappointed to hear about what transpired there for who knows how long...It's very sad to have one's trust and confidence betrayed in such a manner. Having said that, I can't believe how many wierdos are out there looking to blame this on anyone-illegal immigrants- or to the Catholic Church! For those of you folks expressing concern and sympathy for the families affected-Thank You very much!
By the way, |

My child attended Noah's Ark from age 2 up until last year for pre-school. I was never given reason to believe that my child was in a dangerous situation while attending. My child never mentioned any type of behavior like this during our daily talks about our day... I am outraged and disappointed to here about this situation. I am also growing in concern while thinking about the possibility that my son was mistreated at the hands of this staff.
Though I felt Mrs.Isabel was very assertive and controlling, I would have never though of her to be so low....this is disgusting I will also say that during those 3 years, I saw Lee Campbell only 2 times. Once during a christmas program and the other for pre-school graduation. |

That's how they do it in Mexico. Watsonville is a territory of Mexico. Check with the Watsonville Sanctuary City Council for details. |

My daughter attended Noah's Ark for a few years and the staff there was incredibly wonderful to her. I was an over protetive Mom and my daughter was extremely shy we had external issues I won't get into here. I felt both my daughter and myself were very nurtured there. But then my daughter also never required a time out. I also was impressed with how well behaved all the children were. A previous preschool I pulled my daughter out of because the person yelled at the kids and my daughter was petrified to go. Here she was happy and still talks about missing them all. I think part of the problem is that they expanded and took on too many children. With more children and more staff it would make it harder to keep an eye on all the staff to ensure they are treating the children properly. If my daughter had still been going there I probably would have removed her. I do not think any preschool should be allowed to grow that large even if there are the correct number of adults to children. There was a school in Monterey that was highly recommended, when I went there it was like ants running everywhere. Too many children. The 2 teachers that were let go were very young. However at the kindergarten graduation last year the parents were treated with such hostility for not dressing the children in their robes ahead of time (which only takes a minute to put on and if using a car sit not protical. If I had seen that before I would have removed her.
And for all those folks talking insultingly at the parents who sent their kids to preschool you do not know what you are talking about. The difference preschool made for my daughter is amazing. Her confidence in herself, her ability to think, are proof of that. And everyone who knows me and my daughter know that she is my world and everything I do, I do in an effort to do the very best for her. And don't be so stupid, go protest at the school and you just upset the children. And excuse me but I am not from Mexico you racist closed minded jerk. |

“End Corporate Domination!” Since: Oct 08
Santa Cruz ISP: Los Angeles, CA |
The culture of violence we are cultivating in this county begins at home. Or, in this case, at pre-school. We've got to stop. America is supposed to be a democracy, for Pete's sake! In a true democracy people do not settle their differences by pulling each other's ears, or noses, or other violent means! If we want to BE a democracy, we need to ACT like a democracy. Starting at home, and at pre-school.

It's very disappointing that blame is being placed on Ms. Isabel. She is not the wrong doer, get your facts straight, place the blame on the guilty parties- the ones who were fired. Ms. Isabel resigned to start a new career. A comment from a grand parent just shows the lack of good judgement she has and maybe she's the controller. God knows the truth.

Why is it okay to bash creationists? You probably wouldn't dream of insulting a Muslim, a Hindu, an evolutionist, or pretty much any other belief system. It's interesting that the one group anyone is allowed to insult is Christians/creationists. I thought we were supposed to respect other peoples' belief systems. |

Seriously it is not hard to believe that kids in Watsonville may be so out of control that they need physical intervention. Have you been to any pizza place or the movies on a sunday there? Parents let their kids run ruff shot over the entire place because it is easier than working with their 22nd child.

My children attended Noah's Ark on the days I worked. They were extremely happy there! I am very disappointed in the article. It is a one sided point of view. The site director, Isabel Hernandez, was never interviewed. I know for a fact that she resigned! Two other employees resigned with her. Isabel worked tirelessly trying to bring enrichment activities to our children. Things like an Easter egg hunt, Mother's Day tea and Father's Day breakfast to name a few. All of this was made possible by the site director! As a parent and an educator, I appreciate that she was there giving more than what was expected of her.
Thank you Isabel Hernandez! |

Based on your lack of writing skills, you should have remained a student. |

My child attended Noah's Ark Preschool for two years. I never had any concerns. My child was happy to be at school and even requested to attend on Sat. and Sun. The article states "Three employees including the site supervisor are no longer working at the center as a result of the investigation." THAT IS FALSE! I know this because I received a copy of the original investigation report and it states "Isabel states that staff she suspects who used inappropriate discipline have left and are no longer employed. Isabel reports that all staff is using and understands use of positive discipline at center." I pulled my child out because the site director and teachers who resigned are no longer there. My chid keeps asking for them, that makes me sad.
