Teen cited after crash that injured teacher

<![CDATA[ALLEMAN, Ia. -- A teenager reportedly driving the car that hit and injured a Garton Elementary School teacher while he was riding his bike has been cited with texting while driving, authorities said Thursday. The accident occurred around 8 p.m. Oct. 12 in Alleman, police said. Maria Claussen, 17, of Elkhart reportedly struck John Meyer, 42, of Ankeny, a special education teacher. Claussen was cited with use of an electronic communications device while driving and improperly overtaking a vehicle. The Iowa Legislature passed a texting-while-driving ban in 2010. Meyer was taken to a hospital in critical condition, although he has since improved to fair condition.
