I've worked for Caseys for 4 1/2 years and have worked many many overtime hours. Oddly, I have been paid for each and every quarter hour I have worked. Imagine, if you sign in when you start working and sign out when you are done you end up with a pay check. Now, taxes are a different story. The more you make....the more you pay. Who'da thunk.......I'll work for Caseys for another 20 if they will have me.

I have worked for Casey's for nearly 3 years. i was promoted quickly, but only because i worked many hours off the clock. I spent many evenings driving to other stores and was never compensated for drive time or mileage. I was told that if it is the stores fault that something isn't done or not ordered that it was my job to deal with it on my own time.

I worked for Casey's for almost 5 years. My question is what is a break? After all this time I never had one! I as a dedicated worker worked several times for 8 to 12 hrs., without a relief. Being a part time employee, there was several times I was scheduled to work 9 days straight. If you got to work 10 minutes early, they put you to work. No pay but you worked. What did my dedication get me?

After reading these previous comments,it appears as if some people are getting mis-info. I find it hard to believe employees are working this much on their own time at Caseys. Perhaps store managers should get themselves up to corporate headquarters in Ankeny and take refresher courses on what the laws of labor are all about. The salary people are naturally on a different page than the hourly employee. You as manager are most likely on a salary but your employees are hourly and need to be compensated for such.

(quote who+"JayJay" You are absolutely correct on the break issue. I dont know how but Caseys does not provide breaks and could care less if u get one. I worked there for 10 years and i worked 9 hours 6 days a week sometimes 16 hours a day, and u was watched to make sure u stayed busy the whole time and didnt waste a min on their payroll. I also spent many hours there for free becasue you do not have time as mangement to get done what they wanted, and hourly employees would help for free because they felt sorry for you and knew what would happen if work wasnt completed.

My mom worked for them at 2 different stores one in Ankeny & 1 just recently in Pleasantville, there were many many times she would be told to clock out but not to leave until the final person was ready to go home. Staying as late as an hour over her scheduled time off every night she worked. Not to mention she was injured on the job. Someone spilt some green peppers on the ground in the back and she slipped & fell injuring her hand so bad that she was in a cast for 6 weeks and they didn't want to pay for workman's comp nor allow her time to heal. We recently told her she needed to retire. The company as a whole I believve is a good company but for the small people working in the stores their managers suck. She was even told to find her own person to cover her shift for doctors appointments or if she was sick. I wish she would have filed a law suit for getting hurt on the job.

I worked for Casey's for a total of 8 years. I eventually quit because of several reasons. We didn't exactly have the problem mentioned in the lawsuit, but I have many complaints about the company.
First off, it seems when you start there, the management and district management is all good with you getting a good raise. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how nice of an employee you are, as the years go by, your raises decrease or vanish completely.
Second, I could never plan anything! If I were to miraculously get two days off back to back and plan something, something would happen to make that phone ring and it be them on the other end. This is one bad thing about running a store with a minimum crew.
Last but not least, Casey's all-mighty policies, along with their deaf ear towards the customer. It's pretty bad when you're the pizza maker, and you can't adjust the mechanical dough roller you use to actually flatten the dough. You get to spread a ball of dough that is COLD that is as big as your fist to something that is as wide as a large pizza pan! Pretty hard to do without ripping a HOLE in the center of it. Nope, if you get caught changing the "By the book" settings, you are WRITTEN UP. I would be working the register all of the time and customers would say, "Gee, it would sure be nice if you guys had styrofoam cups!" I smile and reply, "Well we've been trying to get them here for the past 6 years, but the company just haven't gotten to it yet!" meanwhile knowing that Casey's won't ever get them.
I ended up quitting Casey's after they refused to let me go on my first week-long vacation even with a 6 month notice.
Conclusion: Don't work here unless you really need the money. Sure it may be better in other stores, but I may of just hit a sour one. The supervisors and district managers are mostly snobs and hardly ever acknowledge that the store employees exist, unless ofcourse they've violated one of their treasured policies.

I've been with my gf for 2 1/2 years, all the while enduring her low wages and ridiculous schedule while working at Caseys in Illinois. After 5 years she finally is told she'll be promoted to manager after the one before her, who was currently on welfare receiving food stamps while making 28,000$, quit her position. Then she is told that she can't have the job becuase she received a ticket for illegal transportation of alchohol when she was 17 years old. Coincidentally, as the assistant manager for the last few years, she has had access to everything a manager would, and performed all of the tasks a manager does, but yet she is not qualified?...something is fishy here and i'm trying to find some help, cuase this is some bs if you ask me.

My issue with Casey's is not like the other posts here. Mine involves myself and five other employees who where discharged for eating pizza (or other food prepared by the kitchen) and not paying for it. Although we are aware this is against company policy and is a justifiable discharge. We where stunned when it happened, as this is COMMON PRACTICE in this store. An infraction, not only allowed, condonned and ignored by the managment, but they themselves commited as well. We where caught on camera doing so and dischared because of it, but ironically the managment staff where not. We find this hard to believe and firmly believe their actions where overlooked or ignored by the area supervisor,as to date, the managment staff are still employed there. To make matters worse, 4 of the five of us discharged for the same reason, have now been charged with simple misdameanor 5th degree theft.
Now, I ask you to contemplate this.
What exactly is going on in this store, and why where 5 employees made to be the scapegoats for a store that reportably where losing profits and made to pay for this in every way possible.
When in fact, we may have been guilty, but others: IE: managment who are supposed to be doing their jobs: running the store, making sure infractions where implemented through disaplinary actions etc. These managers still have their jobs and are not being charged with theft, leaving them free to do it all over again, because obviously the area supervisor has allowed this to happen.
I need help to stop this in that store, make sure that ALL employees who commited the same infractions as I and the other 5 discharged employees suffer the same fate as us. AND on top of this, I need to fight a theft charge in court.
Where do I,(WE) start????????

For those of you that are so upset with how Casey treated up then why did you stay for some long? You have the right quite when ever you would like. Also for those of you that are complaining about not having breaks. Iowa department labor is silent on this issue, thus there is nothing saying that after so many hours you are entitled to a break. Once again if its so bad quite donít just sit by and complain about it.

Like so many of you, I too currently work for Casey's. I work up to 12 hours a day, and always get called in and to other stores in my area. I never get a break, because I don't smoke. I have worked for Casey's for over six months, and am getting fed up with the bs! I hope that they go under and I can get unemployment or something!

I quit Casey's after 1 1/2 years because I was passed up for a promotion because i lived more than 10 miles from town. I live in an area of Western Nebraska where 1/2 of the towns work force lives more than 10 miles from town. I have worked for different places over the years, watched my husband work different jobs, and you ALWAYS at least got a supper/lunch break... Not here!!! That place sucks, I wouldn't do shit to help a Multi-Million dollar corporation who treats there employees so badly. I took a different job, for $.75 less an hour, i am off 2 hours earlier,... I made management in 9 months! and soooo much happier!!

My wife made asst. manager in three months with Casey's and we live 16 miles away. So maybe its just you they did not like. Casey's like outher corporations are all about profit or they would not be in business. They are also ownned by the Wal-Mart (Walton) family. Need I say more!

I worked for caseys for 13 months, the other day, I asked my manager for the calendar for appointments off, she told me I had to tell her where and what my appts were for. Ha ha I said, its none of your business......the day ended badly, she fired me/I walked out....later that day she told the other employees their lives were in danger....My husband and I were gonna do something to them....she is a joke, little does she know that is slander, and well she doesn't watch her p's and q's I smell a lawsuit. She needs to keep the drugs out of her nose, and the alcohol away from her mouth, maybe she would be a good person, but I can tell you here, in the town I live in they dont want her outsider ass here managing our store. She is always sick, and taking off, and passes her work off to others.... she better open her eyes.

I worked for Casey's 12 years ago as a 2nd job (for about a year). Our manager always made sure we had breaks, and were paid for ALL of our time. She also made sure that all times were covered etc, and would be more than happy to call to find a replacement, or work your shift yourself as long as you didn't make a habit of it.

Fast forward to this year. I have been with them for the past 4 months and think it's terrible. I am scheduled for 10+ hours at a time, and no freakin break. I am the only one in the store who is trained to run the register (during my shift). If the kitchen people need a break, I have no clue what to do back there, so they can't take a break either. Many times I have complained and ever suggested how she could get breaks in for people. All I am told is, "I work for 14 hours a day and I don't get a break either." She sits at her desk most of the day, has a 2nd register open that someone else runs, and runs all sorts of errands where she is sitting all damn day! If the other person gets too busy, she rarely comes out unless you literally YELL at her for help. It's very frustrating.

This company has gone either gone down over the years or my first store was a complete fluke.

And I worked for Wal-Mart for over 5 years and NEVER had the problems I have now. I wasn't aware the Waltons owned Casey's also. You may be misinformed on that.

This is your manager not Casey's. If she does not turn in your Holiday Pay you can call Wage and Hour or Casey's Corp. Office. It sounds like you have a lazey crew and managers.
