As a former park ranger, this is about time that Current is cleared. the owner of the dog also acted aggressively.

A trained police officer was scared of a lab, sounds like he was having a bad day or a beef with his neighbors if you ask me. I new no charges would be filed , the boy's in blue always stick together, that's why no one has faith in the system anymore.

A Black Lab was acting aggressively? I suppose it probably assaulted the troopers' frisbee? Or it tried to lick him to death? Maybe this guy will kill some little old lady if she wanders on his property with alzheimers! Sorry! I am not buying it!

this is typical. law enforcement people never do anything wrong. yes, thats sarcasm. this trooper should at least buy these people a new dog. i'm surethat he had a choice, but he chose to be the big man and kill the dog .

what a farce.this clown protects us?thank the powers that be that a child had not gotten out of his back yard and wandered into trooper currents' yard and given him the raspberries.....this man is a disgrace and,if he is not to be fired, should be allowed to serve only at a desk.

Please people, reserve your remarks about the Trooper. I pray nightly for all police officers and their safety. We do not know the facts, presented by both sides. If he was cleared, he was cleared. Case closed. Thank you to all police officers, troopers, sheriff dept. I for one respect you and the job you do.

I've had labs for fifty and never seen one overly aggressive unless it was protecting something at home.I have seen over agressive law enforcement people.I've always wanted to teach gun classes to animals especially deer snd watch the look on fatboys face standing by the pickup shooting at deer.If they shot back it would be worth a million bucks.

Why would you believe that statement when labs don't act aggressively. Can i shoot your kid just because its acting aggressively?

so if he had time to get his gun, he also had time to get to the house. It was just a excuse for a cop to show he is above the law

Does this mean I can shoot any random dog that wanders on my property at no consequence? If he wasn't a cop he would have been charged. He's a retard.

What does being a "former park ranger" have to do with anything Joe? A trained officer couldn't handle a dog. It seems to me he's probably incapable of handling a lot of things in life.

So a combat trained officer can discharge a firearm in city limits which is clearly illegal and extreme cowardess, heinously shameful and we find this acceptable?! How pitiful we have become to allow such behavior from a so called peace officer. The act and the man are clearly criminal. is this the person you'd trust to meet in a traffic situation or leave your family under his care for a moment? Pray your child doesn't cry, or a loved one speak out in frustration or anger. Dirty Harry we can not abide. Take this man's weapons now! You may be next. I guess the cell phone he's issued and we pay for CAN'T dial animal control. Never fear Dirty Current is right here. Atta boy Current...

I'm filing this one away for future reference. If I too ever fall into the same circumstance...having enough time to go inside, having no regard for my own dogs welfare (leaving it outside to fend for itself), make a call, get my gun and then shoot...ahh hem...Well lets just say this...Anyone in Iowa should expect the same treatment in the eyes of the law...regardless of your relatinship with law enforcement. This gut has to be the most hated guy in the neighborhood. Any statement from the Trooper? What could he say...it is not excuseable.

what a coward! if it was any other person that felt somewhat threatened by a dog they would shut there door, isnt that the point of a home, to feel safe? yet just because he has a gun he can go and shoot the dog. just because he is a cop gives him no right to shoot it, if anyone else would have done that they would be in jail. what an idiot shame on him, i hope karma comes around and bite you in the butt

As a fellow LEO, and also a lab owner, there is no concievable reason this dog needed to be shot. But it is his word against the dogs, and the dog's not talking. It is a shame. Anyone that would do this is not safe with a gun and obviously shouldn't be trusted to determine when to shoot/not shoot.
