I am sure that if the oil refinery is opened that none of your friends or family members will take advantage of a $60,000.00+ per year job offered by Hyperion. You would rather not see development and keep working for minimum wage...paycheck to paycheck.

Not all the jobs are going to be high paying one. Hyperion themselves even admitted that they do not know yet what the pay or wages will be for the refinery jobs. At first they were saying $20-30 an hour, but have admitted some will be even less than that. Is it worth selling out the area for even $20-$30 an hour jobs? Do you REALLY think the high paying jobs are going to obtained by local people???? Wake up and smell the coffee!!!

Who is on the city council now? Who are the county commissioners? Guys, you need to contact each and every one of them personally. Speaking at a meeting isn't the same.
And by the way, Union County residents -- those 60K jobs?? Those 20-30 dollar jobs? They will tell you you aren't qualified, and bring their own people in. You betcha

these are all great comments. but i wouldnt necessarily discount the refinery, I have been in the ethanol industry for 7 years and know that there are several entry level positions that start at $15 per hour and move up to the 20-30 per hour without formal training. Fuel refining whether from corn or crude, share many underlying concepts and are similar, so it would not be impossible for local people to make more than $ 60,000 per year. However i understand the importance of citizens concern for the air we breath, being a local citizen myself.

I think after all farm owners would look at taxes in union county and compare with like ground in other states you would understand schools and the like aren't going t need less money. Where will it come from? You better "smell the roses" from Hyperion.
