It's not just the tuition that causing anxiety. The cost of books is ridiculous. My daughter just paid $200 for one textbook (not even for her major). Her boyfriend is a science major. His books average $500 to $600 a piece. College students are held hostage to these prices because you can't pass the course without a textbook. Used books help somewhat, but some professors insist on having the latest edition(so those with older editions can't even sell them to other students or back to the bookstore at the end of the semester). At LCCC, many of the professors are requiring bundled books, with extra software for online work. Even if you buy the text used, you have to pay an extra $60 on up for license fees for software.

Yes it is ridiculous for the taxpayer, parent, and student. For those receiving a paycheck off you and I, it's just another day or should I say payday. Lets, you and I, go on strike, and watch the tuition go down.

Did you ever wonder what happens to all the books at the end of a school year? Check the schools dumpster.

I copied my repsponse to a similar story. I will paste it for you to respond.

In today's Morning Call, there is an article in there about the cost of college textbooks. From reading the article, it is reporting that books cost anywhere from $120-170 per book. Why? If you buy a hard-bound book in a book store the cost is 29-39 dollars. Some of the students interviewed said they are not buying all their books unless they really need to. The article said the average cost was about 1100 per semester. Here is another example of costs "skyrocketing" in these recessionary times. Why do costs of these things "skyrocket" in the recession. We can just add this to the list of PPL increases, RCN increases, fuel increases, food increases , clothing increases, etc. Also in today's Mcall, there was a story about Victaulic trying to negotiate a contract. It was reported that workers making 20 an hour are being offered 16 an hour. I know your feeling towards unions, the Saucon teachers and now Victaulic but why do the corp. raise their rates but workers can't get an increase. If a guy at Victaulic has a kid going to college, where is her going to get money for the increase in textbooks? The way I see this is a perfect example of circling the wagon trains and shooting inward. This stuff has got to stop or we will have no economy to worry or talk about.

John,
You posted the same thing to me a while ago and I tried to answer it. What is it with you, do you think everyone hates teachers and unions ?

If you voted for Obama , which I'll guess you did, is this the change you really thought he would bring. You should have done a little reseach before you voted and recognized all you were getting was an Acorn organizer. I was surprised at election time no one had ever heard of Acorn until Obama started handing out money to them, and he isn't done yet.

I do not support Obama. I never did. He was and is too inexperienced to handle this job. Are you going to reply to my questions?

Alot of students are going to community colleges to save on tuition. In turn these community colleges are becoming jam packed, classrooms filled to max
therefore not enough one on one help between professor and student, resulting in a downgraded education.

How did I survive all these years without these intelligent and mature comments. Look, you do have me pegged as an older person and quite honestly, these type comments are idiotic and meaningless. Why don't you just comment on other topics because you are only going to get the same response from me and that is :

do you own a scissors? if not, could you please go buy a pair and cut the line that is connected to your home that provides internet access? kthnxbai!

Pretty soon there won't be any college students who can afford college, resulting in laying off professors, maybe even closing some colleges.

Tuition has to be lowered, or we will live in a nation that leaving no child behind will become a thing of the past.
