I remember Harm Summers barber shop right there on broadway. His wife was my elementary teacher. My Grandpa worked for the old Ford dealership there on North Main just north of 3rd street for 27 years and my Grandma and Aunt Eunice worked at Ashley's outlet store there on Main between Broadway and 3rd.

There also used to be an old water tower right next to my Grandparents house that everybody used to climb. It is now gone. Climbed it several times myself. Never spray painted it though.

Pucketts dr pepper was 2.99 a case
Swartz drug still has the best shakes I remember when I was little that this town wasn't as cutt throat as it is now. Good ol people ran the businesses and actually cared about the people here in the town, everyoen was willing to lend a hand no matter what with whatever you needed. I remember picking up great grandpa from the rail road depot where the Katy Diner is now. Teen Town was a major attraction for the kids in the early 90's and they could hang out there. The good times should be brought back areally soooonnn.....:) |

One of my Favorite places ever in Elk City was on Main Street on the East side of the road 2 or 3 doors down from Main and 3rd. I don't remember the name but back in the 60's there was the neatest bakery and they made fresh Gingerbread Men. When you got them while they were soft and Chewey there was nothing in the world better. I wish I remembered the Name tho.

I think it was Johnny's Bakery, at least the guy that did the baking was Johnny. A little bitty man, he delivered donuts to Paul Jones Drug to sell in their snack bar. |
