Does anyone know where the old Running Pump Inn or hotel was located?'1 1/2 or 2 miles North of Elizabethtown and 6 miles from Middletown' on the Elizabethtown-Middletown Pike, according to an old document. Thing is, my ggggrandparents were supposed to be buried somewhere on the original property.

I am told that my great grandfather Lewis Crouse (was born in Germany and changed name from Ludwig Kraus) once owned the Running Pump Inn with a partner (name unknown) and that they had a falling out. Who were your relatives buried on the property? Maybe they were his partners.

I do not know where it is (I am in Florida)lived in Elizabethtown.

The Running Pump Inn/Tavern was known for the fact you could get a drink of water from the pump there in the old days - I think! It was built in 1799 along the Lancaster to Philadelphia Turnpike built in 1796 - one of the first in America. In 1963 the land it was on was aquired for Dutch Wonderland an Amusement park. Mr. clark who started Dutch Wonderland sold the building for $1 yes $1, the catch being the new owner had to move the building. It was an enormous project and a Mr. Joe Meyers spent almost $50,000 to move it. so the building now sits at 2280 East Lincoln Highway next to Lapps Family Rest. There seems to be a discrepany whether the Running Pump was at the 55 mile marker on the P. to L. turnpike or milestone 58 (where Dutch Wonderland is) but I would check online records for church cem. in the area to see if you can locate them. From Doris: Your ggggrandparents would be Maginnis would it? Mine were supposedly buried there.
