For those of you who hate the police and trash them here......

Who is it that you are going to call when that heroin junky kicks in your door to take your valuable property or harms your family. If you call these men and women you "Hate" they will still come when you call and do thier best for you.

Hope you never need to call on them

Derry Twp police officers are the best! They were so, so patient with & kind to my elderly mother when she refused to give up her car keys & was caught several times, out on the road, driving in a dangerous manner. They contacted me, made sure my mother did not hurt herself or another, and were understanding & respectful, yet very insistent with her to give up her license. WONDERFUL, professional people. And they have to put up with the PUNK above - Informed Citizen - You might earn a degree & whole pile of money but you'll still be you -- an idiot.

Hershey Resident, I would like to know what your definition of a "punk" is. If being a 20 year old full time college student and worker with no criminal record is a punk then I am one. If being a Dean's list student every semester standing in Smeal School of Business (one of the best in the nation) I am one. If voicing my opinion about a police force which oversteps its authority I am a punk. How can you honestly tell me I am a "punk" when all I do every day is go to school, work and never break ANY laws. You seem like the punk to be calling one of this nation's most productive youth a punk. Get it straight, people like me are the future of this country and will be footing the bill for all of those planning on retiring someday. It might be best not to bite the hand that will eventually be responsible for taking care of you and the older generations.

I challenge anyone to kick in the door to my place. No police needed here, only me and my 2nd amendment rights which I will practice. I am more than capable of protecting myself against anyone who means me harm in my residence.

Yes they have a bad reputation, brought on by their own actions. A few lying disrespectful officers can hurt the reputation of all. Unfortunately the ego boosting, power hungry officers have the ability and the misguided respect of their superiors to accomplish this.

It's nice to know that you don't proof read your material. I'm sure your college work reflects your lack of attention to detail. What's also clear to us readers is that you are the arrogant one. I appreciate your confidence with regards to your outlandish business career expectations. Have you heard/read anything about our economy lately. Since you sound like a spoiled brat, wasting space in your college classes (which I'm sure someone else is paying for) that your career plans will lead you to an Assistant Manager position at your closest Turkey Hill or if you're lucky perhaps KFC? I own several successful businesses and with your dumb-ass attitude, would not hire you to clean toilets. Good luck!

I think it's funny you came on here and then grammar checked an online post which I do not even care to proof read. When I post online I never proof read or even care to have good grammar, let alone perfect grammar. Seems like you must be a cop, know one, or be married to one cause your behavior just exemplified the type of anal behavior befitting of a Derry Township police officer. For your information, I am a business administration major at Penn State's Smeal School of Business with a 3.84 cumulative GPA. Go online and look up Smeal's ranking amongst other business schools in the nation (You will be surprised to know that it is one of the best in the entire country). So trying to make it seem like I am ignorant is quite funny because I can guarantee that I am smarter than you, will have a better degree than you and will definitely make more money than you. This is why the D.T.P. hate college kids. They know that we are smarter, are working towards better degrees (Not just associates degrees which most cops have) and will make way more money than them. It must really irritate them to know that in less than 2 years when I graduate I will be making more money than them and will yield more power in the community. After all, pretty much anyone moron can be a cop, but not every cop can be a business leader in America.

Intelligence is obviously not your strong suit, so no one would expect you to understand the need for policing the speed limit and issuing tickets and generating revenue for the city by doing so. That being said keep enjoying living in a city with very low crime rate and the ability to walk the streets at night while feeling safe. If you don't like it move the few miles to Harrisburg and see how much you hate a police presence then. By the way it is *Accept not except and *Their not there.

Hershey is not a safe community because of a police force. It is because of socil economic facters. This police force always sits at the bottom of a hill, or church parking lot, ect. to give tickets. They are out of control with ticket writing. For the most part, its not speed that causes accidents, but stupid penn. drivers. Why do people here stop to make a right turn? Go slow in the passing lane? Sit 40 feet behind someone else at a traffic light? Ect... For modern cars 25mph is nothing. Its all about the $$$ here.

Have lived in Hershey 50 years. My wife and Ihave accumulated at least 5 speeding tickets in that time. Had a few incidents with teenage children that necessitated a visit to the police department.

We deserved each ticket. The police were always courteous in each situation. I have nothing but respect for the officers--I could never handle their job in having to deal with extremely difficult and dangerous situations--and a less than respectful public as evidenced by some of these posts!

I bet the police are courteous, You are supporting there prey like income. I pay 8,000 a year in property tax for these folks to prey on visiters and residents. They need some layoffs if they have that much time to sit at the bottoms of hills to collect. Maybe I should start by going to twp meetings and start a grass roots campain for reform. By the way i have been driving for 23 years, 4 of which are in this area. I have never seen this type of policing before. I would not be happy with 5 tickets in 50 years. This force issues the equivelent of, 1 ticket per person in the twp every 2 years. Check the public records. Exesive. And iam not a police hater or have I gotten one yet.

When will the taxpayers of Derry Twp. realize that the money spent for police service is disproportionate to the service received? Hershey has 10 x the force of Palmyra and Hummelstown.
The added force needed should be paid for by the place that benefits which is Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. They are bringing in the tourists and if there is an added need for police - it should to paid for by the places that cause the need.
2. I've noticed that the police give tickets without points - is this a way to prevent reporting to the state so Hershey doesn't stand out as a place where citations are unfairly given?
3. Since there is $35 for EMC and $35 for another service added to each ticket - can someone compare the money sent in for this from Hershey and from Palmyra?- as another way to gauge the level of injustice to those that must drive in Hershey.

My feeling is individually the police are good guys but collectively they overwhelm the area residents that need to drive in or through the township. The neighboring towns have 1/10 as many police so it stands to reason one's chance of getting a violation in neighboring towns is much less. The statistics of traffic stops per officer are kept and reviewed so there is pressure on the officers to not slack off - in other words to write tickets - not to give breaks. With so many officers and with the pressure to produce an equal application of law is not possible. Hershey Park and other Hershey tourists attractions should provide necessary traffic control and subsidize the DTPD relative to the balloted size of the police department required by Hershey's business.

I'm telling you right now....these cops are busters for real. The last time I fought a citation I told the DJ in court that if I get pulled over anymore for BS or followed there would be a lawsuit involved. He knew I was just blowing smoke. When I was younger I got in some serious trouble owned responsibility, told the truth and pled guilty, but I also had arguably one of the best lawyers in PA especially Centeral PA. Not mentioning any names but he's not cheap. I've been in plenty of situatioms around the time period that I was getting in trouble one in which I was trying to explain to an officer that I was not involved in a fight which others there also tries to explain. I just asked to talk and he admittedly tried to make it seem as I was being aggessive and resisting which I 100% was not he kicked my legs out and I fell in the damn wet dirt in a brand pair of jeans and timberland boots not cheap. I was later released without charge. On other occasion I was with an individuals. One had thought we were being followed which I dismissed as being paranoid as we were being taking by there older sibling to a business for job applications. After leaving we sawaanother cop. The individual driving already drove like a turtle to being with as others posted kids, teenagers, high school college etc get on edge when they see DTP. The individual driving doesn't do anything wrong didn't care that there was a cop but was also a bit paranoid for the bad vibe they had with everyone and likewise stories. Needless to say we were pulled over for "supposedly doing a stop and go".right infront of a cop which we all saw. No sooner did we get pulled over the k9 unit my friend said looked as if It was following us pulled up. Immediately the situation was shady as they asked permission to search the car even though it was a bs minor traffic citation. Inwas sitting in the back seat in which I was asked for ID. Why I am I being asked to see ID if it's a traffic violation, I'm not related to the other two who are family, and seated in the back. The cop began to press the issue being weird asking us what I was doing ignoring the others from the k9.unit. when he asked for my I'd he saw something hanging out the top of my pocket a clear plastic. Just the top nothing else. And immediately begin hassling me about seeing what it was. I knew what it was but acted like he wasn't there and ignored him. He continued to ask repeatedly which I said what do you need to see it doe it's just loose change I'm taking to giant to use at coinstar. My friens turned around and said what are you doing just show him...which I wanted to punch him square in the face fod putting me on blast. Needless to say I know my rights and how to say no to cops but respectfully. I also have several relatives that work for state police in multiple states. Anyway I showed them eventually after it was obvious that he wasn't giving uo and I knew he was gonnna pull some bs so he could get the k9 out of his car. What I had was cannabis less then 1 gram. None of us were intoxicated or smoking in the vehicle as I stated the driver was as goody as they get. Not that thats wrong..anyway I was giving the opportunity to speak with the judge in person and explained to him 100%.detail the account of the events. To which he responded you know better then to let him illegally search you. Why would you give him consent? That's your fault I cant do nothing now you told on yourself being showing him inwhich you basically gave him consent. He said step your game up and now you know if it ever happens again. Lol. I could go on and on with different stories where I or others were harassed and let go because they couldnt do anything or other situations. Like being pulled over having my lights on a flurry but not my wipers. I have some not say nice things to say about them but I don't need to for everyone thing I have to say there is exponentially more people with even more negative things to say
i keep it 100 lol

There are some really nice Derry Township Police Officers but unfortunately there are too many that power thrust. Some situations call for appropriate measures but never outright @ssholes. Taking a traffic citation to court for a bogus motorcycle incident which the officer refused to tell me why he pulled me over. Tried to say I stole the bike charge me with eluding which I was pulled over in a parking lot way before he even arrived because I saw hisights from 20 blocks away I knew some sh!t was going down. Anyway to be sitting in court being given the opportunity to state my case and have another DTP officer sit in on it and laugh out loud while I was talking at me...she has red curly hair and is a real piece of work five letters. That really honestly sort of showed me in it's entirety the professionalism that the DTPD carries themselves with.
