I am divorced and have a job, ranch worker, that barely pays the rent. I lost a very good job 2 years ago. With past bills and rising inflation I had to ask for assistance. I work, my 2 teenage kids work and I home school my youngest. With only a little monetary help from the father it is impossible to make ends met every month. I think the father should have to help out more. He cheated, we divorced and now except for a little out of pocket cash he has no inconvenience. I have to do the hard work of raising our kids and dealing with hard times. He doesn't even try to see them, so I have all the responsibilities. I think the state should make it mandatory for the non-custodial parent to be involved with their own kids and take some of the burden off the mothers. Obviously since he lied and cheated he can't be trusted with their complete welfare but he should be accountable. He should have to clip coupons and make trips to the food bank to feed his own children. And how about transporting them back and forth to school functions so they can get involved in the community and have some positive male influences in their lives. How about father's spending time with their daughters and showing them that they don't need that kind of attention from a man and father's spending time with their son's and teaching them to respect women and protect them from unwanted pregnancies. All the things mother's do as single parents are taken for granted. Let the state make the father's responsible, as responsible as the mothers then maybe those male role models can actually teach a young girl to have respect for herself so she doesn't go out and let herself be used by men. Be accountable father's instead of bashing the outcome of your lack of attention.
Most of that was off topic as heck. I see some valid points in there but thats not really what this topic is talking about. My only question is... if he is a liar and cheter and doesnt care enough to spend any real time with his kids, arent they more than likely better off if he stays away? Him being forced to be around them if he doesnt want to is going to hurt them more than if he just styaed away it sounds like in your case.

Really what it boils down to is you just need him to support them with money and he doesn't really need a relationship. His relationship was having sex with you.

about 100 years ago if you didn't pull your own weight you would starve. How spoiled we have become to assume others should provide for us often due to poor decisions in life. You can complain about x,y,z but in the end we should be responsible for pulling our own wight. Redistribution of wealth in any shape or manner is downright criminal.

I don't expect child support from him. If he don't want to be there, then that's how its gunna be. I'ma stand my ground. If I have to bust my a$$ for my kids then that's what ima do. That's what a true parent does. You don't milk the government just because you are too lazy to get up and work.

Some women love leeching off the system. Not all women on welfare are lazy my cousin was on it while she went to college now she has a good job. I think that women should only receive welfare if they in college or getting job training......otherwise if you content with having a house full and being dependent upon the system you shouldn't get welfare and your kids should be taken away from you

Well, the system is at fault. Welfare must be very easy to get, I have never seen so many people on it. They sell the food stamps for a pill and the kids do without. The kids should be taken out of a lot of the homes. After two kids if you cannot support them without the help of the state they need to have surgery so there will be no more. The losers are not going to take the free birth control. They get free housing, food, medical and whatever else they can think of. It makes me so mad I can hardly stand it to see these worthless people cheating the system. I know there are some out there that are only on it until they can get back on their feet and this is ok but the ones that are on it and always will be and don't look for work just stay high all the time should be taken off and the kids taken and put up for adoption. It is not fair to the kids to do without.....

I kno a girl w 3 kids all within a yr of each other and gets $900 a mnt in food stamps, buys junk and dont even cook! I had a good job but after we had our second baby I wouldn't make much money after daycare so we decided I would stay at home and not pay for daycare! And my husband is the best guy for our family! He works 60hrs a week at his job and then comes home like every othey day and works side jobs at home just to make ends meet! And it pisses me off bc he works sooooo hard and we can't get any help for anything! And she gets 900 for beinga single mom and sitting on her fat ass and spreading her legs. and I'm tryin to babysit to make some money and trying to start a business from home, all those bitches need to close their legs and get a job

Well, here's a thought! If you have this so called allergy, then make the man use protection or no go!! Simple unless you're in the heat of the moment and don't give me that old excuse of lack of sensation. Ain't nobody that sensitive. Just an excuse.

I agree with ^old. Don't take a deposit 'til they loan you their heart & soul... with "interest". Sure, there are a lot of deadbeat dads. THe thing is they were deadbeats prior & for some reason (reasons beyond me) women like that. I have 2 sons from my previous marriage. I'm totally in their lives & my 3rd son is on the way with my new wife. It boils down to (with your choice in mates) taste.

I am not bashing women on here, I have a wife who is wonderful and I know many other women out there who are good hard working people. BUT I am so tired of women on welfare and food stamps and government housing who pop out kid after kid. I believe that if you are a woman with two children under 18, and recieving ANY type of governmental assitance, you come up pregnant with a third kid and show up to the welfare office your choices should be either A) tubal ligation after the birth or B) No extra assitance for any more kids. Only the first 2 kids should get you things like more money in food stamps and welfare checks, after that unless you get fixed so no more come out you dont get any more money. Birth control is not expensive and you can have an iud put in FOR FREE after you give birth if you are on the states medical which these women always are. those iuds keep you from getting knocked up for 5 years. Or you could just not spread your legs but i know thats asking way too much. I am so tired of seeing these woman with no job outside the home and no husband with 4 or 5 kids and getting 600 dollars a month in food stamps, free rent, and 200 dollars a month per kid in cash ALL out of my tax money. I understand having a child then falling on hard times. 2 even I can understand although that is a stretch but after 2 kids it is just ridiculous and taking advantage of the system.
If the mother is younger than 21 state Medicaid won't cover an IUD. Even after you're 21 the state only covers up to $125 for an IUD and the cost $500 on average so you're wrong about the state paying for your IUD to be put in for free. Been there done that.

Through all the stereotypes I do see valid points being made on this thread. But as a single mom trying so hard, I felt inclined to say something. I get foodstamps for myself and my three children, its meant to be supplemental, and when being spent correctly,(not on 3 kitkats at the local shell), that's all it is. I still coupon clip to make it go further. I work 6 days a week two different jobs, unfortunately, since I never finished college, both of these jobs are for minimum wage, but somebody has to do them. I realize I made mistakes, but my girls arent one of them. I accept the help, not for myself, but for my children. When all my girls are in school, I am going to continue my college. It's meant to be supplemental. Btw, same dad, all three girls. We weren't married, he passed away two years ago. I make "too much" for a welfare check, or even for insurance on myself. But before stereotyping others, or making such a generalized statement, consider the few of us that really try.
