Juliet - Sydney, Australia - Jan 26, 2011:

"I don't believe sending a man to medical school changes the nature of the beast.

I worked at the Medical Board as a young lawyer and was shocked and angered by the things I heard...
I don't see male doctors for anything...

There are lots of reasons why men become gynaecologists - I believe some enjoy the power and control, access and opportunity over womens bodies, some enjoy the gratification that comes from simply doing their job, so don't need to step over the line - the invasive nature of the exam is enough for them - some like humiliating women, some dislike or hate women...

I'm now suspicious of the REAL motives for male doctors to choose this branch of medicine.
I've heard the textbook answers, "I want to help women"...but I no longer believe a word of it.

I think women need to be careful seeing male doctors for anything...a male dermatologist ("Dr" Kevin Tong) was recently sent to prison in Australia for the digital rape of several female patients - it seems likely there were many more victims - women who didn't come forward...you'd have thought you'd be safe with a male dermatologist!

The dynamics of the doctor/patient relationship can make it difficult for a patient to stand up to a doctor. The Dr is in a position of power, the authority figure.

Personally, I don't know why women would take the risk - I also could never feel comfortable having an invasive exam by a male doctor.

Why would I put myself through more than absolutely necessary?

I'm afraid women need to have complete trust and faith in their medical provider - and not have to feel even more embarrassment and lie there wondering what's going on in the male doctors mind.
Women need to say enough is enough and take control of their health.

Also, question the need for routine invasive exams and testing - many are unnecessary and can be harmful.

Women need to be informed to safely negotiate the medical world.
Good luck everyone!"

----------

One of the most appalling events was reported in the Dallas Morning News of September 29, 2006. Dr. Aniruddha Chitale is accused of ejaculating his semen on a patient’s face while she was unconscious during a procedure. These are the news reports that cause husbands to cringe!

With that disgusting example we will conclude, but the data base continues in the thousands of examples.(Please see Attachment A for expanded list.) Husbands know this kind of abuse does happen and yet many wives naively submit to this risk leaving their husbands to anguish about it.

As to the statistical prevalence of sexual misconduct by male physicians, this was the focus of a well published questionnaire in 1992 and published in the Western Journal of Medicine.

Of 10,000 physicians surveyed, 1,891 responded and the result was that fully 9% admitted to some sexual contact with one or more patients.(Sample included 344 gynecologists.)

Experts indicate that self reporting amounts to under reporting so we can assume the problem is far greater than reported.

A study in the UK reported that 84% of gynecologists admitted to sexual attraction to patients and fully 12% of them admitting to some form of sexual contact is disturbing evidence of a widespread problem globally.

Do you want me to go on Ruby?

I have collected a 'Library' of facts over the years.

Males are NOT suitable to be gynecologists or to perform pelvic examinations as doctors.

Americans have been bred to be ashamed of the human figure. Why are girls so embarrassed for someone to see their breasts or vaginas? Europe is way more religious in nature than this stupid town but they have no problem showing their bodies whether they are ugly or pretty to the world. The body is a beautiful thing but all of you idiots bicker like the thing that 6 billion people share is taboo.

Thank you for your closing remark which acknowledgesin a backhanded manner that I made a valid point which you can't address. You may now exit the forum and cover your red face with your hands, lol. Don't fall on your way out!

You should be ashamed for posting that porn about a "so called" doctor ejaculating semen on a woman's face. Since it wasn't necessary to be that graphic here, it shows to me that you are titilated by those stories.

Maybe titillating to you ( your word not his) all he did was report what the perverted doctor did. Not his bad, it was the doctors bad. I don't hear you. Critictise the doctor. All you did was shoot the messenger .

What about proctologists? Is it "right" to be confronted with as*holes on a daily basis?

Men are not suitable for the field of Gynecology, here's why...

It is a statistical fact that the discovery of sexual misconduct by male physicians is on the rise.

I have reviewed over 3,700 cases compiled over the past decade.

Please explore (Google) the emotional trauma suffered by women at the hands of male physicians they believed they could trust then were victimized and left shattered by the experience.

The sexual overtones of the gynecological exam should be obvious try as we might to put them aside in the interest of good health.

Sexual misconduct during such exams is recently being exposed at an exponential rate, thanks to the Internet and database sharing of medical boards, police agencies and news media.

As for medical specialty, family practice, psychiatry and OB/GYN have the highest proportion of complaints.

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/Warr...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/13/dr-b...

Dr. Steven R. Pack, 50, was arrested after two women reported noticing a hidden camera while they were undressing in an examination room.

Dr. Ben Ramaley, a gynecologist in Greenwich Connecticut substituted his own sperm for the husband’s during an artificial insemination procedure and is now facing criminal charges.

Dr. Antonio Ramada in Seattle Washington is accused of performing sodomy with a female on his examination table.

Dr. Dale Fetroe, is convicted of having sexual relations with his patient in his examination room.

Dr. William Hagenmeyer convicted of lewd and immoral conduct with teenage girls in his office.

Dr. Peter Lafuria, gynecologist secretly photographed nude women during examinations.

etc, etc, etc..........

That's a cute one. Sure, like I am a male gyno who needs to spend my time on here fighting petty little men with perverted minds, lol.

Honey, most gynos, male or female, have a busy patient load. I don't think any of them will be wasting their time for unpaid trivial and mindless disputes with you folks. Anytime I see a doctor, I have to wait about 6 weeks for an appointment. So when you come on and post absurdities like that, you only further demonstrate how unbelievable you are, which makes me throw out all your other posts as well.

Okay James with your thinking then I should have never married my husband or dated another man after I was sexually assaulted by a boy when I was younger. I guess I should become a lesbian right now because who knows when my husband will try to rape me. Thanks for pointing all this out James. Honestly I feel more comfortable with a male gyno than a female. One female was extremely rude to me & I will not ever go back to her for anything. I know not all are like her & I have seen another one before. I refuse to judge all by the actions of some. You can put all the safe guards in place that you want & bad things still happen. Until I see something about my doctor doing something inappropiate, I will keep going to him as I have been for over 10 years.
Why do you keep bringing up that you didn't like the 'ONE' lady doc you went to? You bring it up as if that was your reason for scratching off all female doctors from your list as if you didn't like one doctor so that means all women doctors are "extremely rude" You say " I refuse to judge all by the actions of some."
But then you keep saying that this one lady was rude as if you obstain from lady doctors because you didn't like one. There are thousands of lady docs, so you really need to keep mentioning the one you didn't like as if that has anything to do with "female doctors" as an entire demongraphic.

And we all know why you Male Gynecologists are so 'overstretched' don't we...

To give you an insight into how very rare cervical cancer is, here is some research I did at the National Cancer Institute website.

It's not in link form, just data, because I had to go back and forth from page to page for the correct numbers for each cancer:

Lung Cancer: Deaths: 160,340 (37.9 times greater than C.C.)
Colon and Rectal Cancer: Deaths: 51,690 (colon and rectal combined)(12.2 times greater than C.C.)
Pancreatic Cancer: Deaths: 37,390 (8.8 times greater than C.C.)
Prostate Cancer: Deaths: 28,170 (6.6 times greater than C.C.)
Leukemia: Deaths: 23,540 (5.5 times greater than C.C.)
Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma: Deaths: 18,940 (4.4 times greater than C.C.)
Bladder Cancer: Deaths: 14,880 (3.5 times greater than C.C.)
Kidney Cancer: Deaths: 13,570 (3.2 times greater than C.C.)
Melanoma Cancer: Deaths: 9,180 (2.1 times greater than C.C.)
Cervical Cancer: Deaths: 4,220
Thyroid Cancer: Deaths: 1,780

Note that cervical cancer is ONLY more prevalent than thyroid cancer.

So... now explain to us all why it is that Male Doctors are obsessed with checking women's genitalia?(well, we all know the real answer).

You twist the topic. Your point really has no bearing on this at all. Going to the beach in a bathing suite and taking your pants off and showing your exposed crotch up close are 100% different and you know it. I see tons of woman. I see lots of woman I think are attractive, I've never seen any of them with their pants off showing me their inner thighs, and exposed vagina. I've seen my wife that way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a man finding that "pelvic exam" exposure performed by a man as a violation of an intimate boundary that he and his wife share. I don't know who you are calling an idiot (be judged by your own words) but it sure sounds like in your eyes any man with a wife who doesn't approve of a nude exam performed by a man on his wife is an idiot. So, in your eyes a couple having relationship/privacy/intimacy boundaries that would only have lady doctors doing nude exams on a woman's private parts is idiocy.

John I never said I didn't or wouldn't go to a female doctor. One delivered my baby & she was nice. Liked her a lot as I did all the nurses. Read all of my post instead of just some of it. I know not all are like that, but I do know that women in general,(& that is what all of you keep doing is generalizing,)care very catty. Seen this with women my whole life. I have no idea what is going through their heads. Could be thinking that I am a big baby from the pain, jealous cause I am thinner than they are, or anything. The same as I don't know what my male doctor is thinking. I have said repeatedly if you bothered to read everything that I just won't go back to that particular female. Just like if a man was out of line with me, I would report him & go to someone else. To Mark: Ruby wasn't just talking about male gyno's if you would bother to read either. All doctor's where they are male, female, gyno's or GP's, takes forever to get an appointment as they are busy.

Let's just cut to the chase. Basically your point is any husband who would want only lady doctors to do exams on his wife in which she is nude and her breast, butt and vagina are exposed has a problem in your eyes. Husbands should just expect men to routinely, as a part of everyday life just expect male docs to inspect his wife with her pants off. It is just too much to expect that when it comes to taking your clothes off for intimate exams that they be done by the same sex. I should just accept that probably at least once a year my wife will be examined in the nude by another man and that all husbands should just accept that. It's not like their aren't 1,000's and 1,000's of lady doctors who could do the same exam and keep the couple's intimacy/privacy boudaries in place, normal men should be overjoyed that the 1,000's of lady doctors are skipped to have a man oversee the "women's health" issue.
