So what happened at the union meeting at freeman lake? It was kind of a surprise and we couldnt make it. Is Akebono going to vote on union or not or is there anything in the works?

Don't you guys at Akebono have 20 vacations days a year? If you take off on Friday or Monday don't you get the weekend off. That's the way it is in my department. Wouldn't that be 20 weekends off a year?
If I get tired, I just take a Friday off and rest up for 3 days in a row. Maybe you guys should try it.
Aren't you so smart? You should not have to take a vacation day to get a weekend off, hence the word vacation. Vacation is to take off work and have fun with your family not recover from working 12 hour days 7 days a week for 3 months straight!
I remember going to the company picnics when they had them at Kentucky Kingdom when my father first got hired and how they talked about family being important. Then when my then boyfriend got hired after our honeymoon he worked 8 months straight with 12 hour days. Akebono has lost there family friendly aspect and has turned greedy. If they don't start to appreciate their employees they are going to get crappy products, poor employees, and a business that will go under.

I've been there over 20 years and you people that is not working the overtime and sitting there and judging us for complaining about soooooo much needs to SHUT UP! Yes we all want our jobs but we don't want to live it. We all have families and would love to spend time with them. If your child plays ball you have to take a vacation day just to watch them play on Saturday. Then if you have more than one child there is more vacation days for a Saturday off. Graduation time take a vac day. Family reunion -vac day. We miss so much of our family time that we can't and will not get back. So what I'm hearing from some of you I can have 20 weekends a year. And another thing the holidays there are a joke. We have been working those also. Got Thanksgiving day off and had to work Friday (holiday) sat and sun. Worked good Friday( holiday) sat and off Easter. Management was not there and are not there on 90% of the weekends and holidays because they are with their family! One manager kept telling us just a few more weeks of overtime. That was 14 months ago. I ask him if we was off the weekend and his reply was: don't know about you but I am and he laughed and walked away. Soooo don't you people that don't have a clue about Akebono be judging any of us. If it wasn't for people like myself it would not be there today!!!!! We don't care to work but do not like being treated like crap and you wouldn't either!

I've put in over 20 years and we got 1% raise that equals to 17.5 cents and 720 bonus not 750. That 720 is our other 2%. That's a slap I'm the face! Put in a little time there and then you have the right to complain! You have no clue how things really are there!

. It was NOT a union meeting that took place. Try coming and seeing for yourself. It's pretty interesting. Just a bunch of people discussing issues.

Management should be on top of it by now. I'm sure there are some that went lickety split running to tell them. Everyone wanted to be nice. We just wanted concerns heard. And we'd just like the company to tell us the truth. When you lie to employees.... well there is no reason to lie about profits. Hard, dedicated workers are being beaten and driven to work even harder and longer hours. It all boils down to it's a Japanese thing. If they cared about their employees, none of this would be necessary. A union was discussed before and the employees voted it down. Then things got worse over the years and it might be time to revisit that vote. We want a voice. A union might get us that voice. It's not about the pay, it's about the mandatory overtime. They will work you to death----LITERALLY!!!
I'm not so sure the Japanese know all this. I believe it stops at upper management. Japanese want certain things and management chooses how to implement it. I don't believe management is told to lie to us when ask simple questions. I think it's easier for management to have us work all this overtime than to actually do their job and see how many parts are there. That was management that chose to make us wait til 1:00 pm on Thursday the day before Good Friday to let us know if we were working on Good Friday! Hard to plan anything! It's called respect and they treat us with 0! Everyone there hides so much trying to make theirselves look good!

The mandatory overtime is awful. Our family has no time together. I'm upset all the time, my husband doesn't get to do anything. Yes they do get 20 days a yr. for vacation, but my husband saves those in case he gets sick, everyone isn't young and in perfect health. Just remember all you young people, you aren't getting any younger, when you have children do you want to spend at least weekends with them? I say give the union a look ask questions. The company has one concern, the bottom line profits, not the workers.
Sad thing is that the company is not smart enough to realize if your workers are happy they will produce more product! Everyone attitude there now is: doesn't matter what we run we will be in there 7 days a week. No reason to bust our butt! Besides we all are very tired!!!!!

It's a shame you want to work til you get tired and take a vacation day just to rest. We have earned those vacation days. Evidently you are clueless about Akebono or just trying to stir sh$&@! We have f smilies and want to spend time with them. Your not worth my time. I honestly feel sorry for you because your are in for a rude awaking!

Was just referring to their overtime, and having to stand around waiting on parts on the weekends because components can't keep up. You would think that the teamleaders and managers over there would look at how long a line would be down while waiting on parts and how many parts would be used up before the next shift starts. If it looks like both shifts would be waiting for a majority of their time, why not go ahead and release the shift that is there and allow components to build up for a couple of hours rather than keeping everyone there just waiting?
It management!!! Really hard to do your job and know what's actually going on if your not there! I believe it goes above team leaders. They are just the messengers!

My husband has worked over 15 yrs. at ABE. We remember the company picnics and being able to attend family reunions. Now we save my husband's vacation days in case he is sick or for a doctor's appt. My 4 yr. old grandson refers to Akebono as "that mean place that makes my papaw work every weekend." People just remember the Japanese people have a very high suicide rate. We may be right behind them.

I have read all of these comments this morning. Our family has lived the worse case scenario this week. My husband, a Akebono associate of 13 years, collasped into unconsciousness before my eyes Tuesday morning. I had been begging him to just call in before he lost consciousness, he was telling me he just couldn't burn another vacation day or force someone else to have to work 12 hours to cover. I will never forget the feeling of frantically trying to get him to come back to me as I called 911. The manner in which he lost consciousness made me think he had a stroke or a heart attack. He spent several days in the hospital with every test imaginable. Thank God no evidence of a stroke or a heart attack. The doctor said if the tests came back in this manner he would attribute this happening to plain overwork. My husband is in excellent health, not on any medications whatsoever for anything. He is nicknamed the energizer bunny, just ask anyone who works with him. But the workload that has gone on for WAY TOO LONG is just too much for a body to handle and grieves a spouse, children and grand-children. Prior to working at Akebono my husband spent 18+ years in another factory. When he first came to Akebono he was so thrilled with the way management interacted with the production workers on the floor. It was as different as night and day from where he had worked before. A union was finally voted in at Batesville Casket where he had worked. All of this talk brings back that time in our life. The bickering that came and the eventual strike and plant closing weighs on our minds as all of this goes on now at Akebono. As I set in a chair at the hospital the other night unable to get even a moments sleep I prayed. God has always been faithful in our life and I know He is aware of our situation and hears our cries. I prayed for the "powers that be" at Akebono- I prayed that God would give them a sleepness night as well, I asked God to trouble their minds, hearts and spirits. I have been told by more than one this week that they have heard my concerns and that they are trying to bring a solution to this excessive overtime. I hope that is just not empty talk - I hope there is genuine change that shows in how the associates are treated and respected for their hard work and years of service.

I'm so sorry Akebono wife and family. I hope your husband is doing better. I too worry about my husband who has high blood pressure and is on medication for it. I also worry about the way that they want to keep everyone out of the plant. A few years ago my father was near death and I wanted my husband by my side. I tried calling the plant, I was put on hold. I had told the person my father was dying and it was an emergency. Finally I just drove up there, waited till someone came out on break, asked that person to go back there and get my husband. My husband does not carry a cell phone, he is a group leader and doesn't like being asked by his workers if they can go outside and text. That is why he doesn't carry a phone. It is a sad thing to be here in Hardin County and waiting for your husband in this factory, then having to drive to Louisville, and hoping you get there in time before your father passes away. We arrived at the hospital 10 minutes before my father passed away. There better be a system to let spouses in that factory, or a lot of spouses are going to have a lot of problems. I'm getting my husband a cell phone, and if anyone says he can't answer it, I'm personally going up there and raise hell. Everyone better get your plans ready as to how you can get in touch with your family members. I sure don't want anyone to go through what I experienced. Akebono get your act together.

Omg,a lot of spouses are worried about their loved ones in the plant. People are getting sick and collapsing. We aren't postal we are worried. Akebono, please give some of these overworked people a day off! My husband just went in early today, that's a 12 hr. day. Every week he goes in early at least 2 to 3 days and every weekend. They might as well have ambulances on standby in the parking lot. The area where my husband works has no air circulation, he has asked for fans and air conditioners, for 6 months, they don't have the money to buy them they say!!!. That is bull. I should call the Labor board on this place. Greedy, greedy.

You only get 20 days vacation when you're there 15 years. And who wants to use up vacation days just to rest up. You should get days off anyway like normal people and not waste vacation days just to get a day off.
