both my kids go to HCS and to be honest I am just not happy with the staff including the office staff, teachers, and counselors. Have you had any problems? If so what and which school?

I went to HCS. Never had any trouble. My son goes to GC Burkhead, and we think it is great. There is this one lady that works in the office that is very rude, and hateful. She is never happy. Other than that, all is well.

cartwheel, what school do your children go to? I went to sonora elementry, east hardin middle, and central hardin and only had troubles with one teacher. Her name was Mrs. Abraham. She was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. I think HCS is the best school district around.

I went to Hardin Co. schools-as do my kids now. I have to say that the elementary schools (from the ones I know) are excellent. Middle and high schools are a different story today. There are three middle schools that I hear positive things about(Bluegrass, East, West) and one of those I don't think I have ever heard a negative thing about-most think of it as the best middle school in the county(East). As for the high schools-it's a mixed bag depending on who you ask. Central is probably the best of the three. The atmosphere at John has gone downhill in the last few years-more and more students are generally rude/disrespectful toward teachers/other students and no one is doing anything to stop it. We can't figure out if it is an administration problem or because of the high percentage of non-native Kentuckians attending John who need a course in Respectful Southern Hospitality and Behavior. Oh and beware of where you buy a house in the county b/c they recently redrew the district lines for the high schools. We've already had someone to buy a house in our subdivision thinking that their kids were going to go to a particular school and finding out they were told wrong by the realtor.

As a graduate from central hardin I can tell you central is just as bad as any of the other high schools. Well maybe not as bad but darn close. I have seen kids pull knifes on each other. I have seen racial fights, very large racial fights. I have seen kids punch a teacher in the face. I have seen multiple drug deals in the school. Trust me central has its problems, the administators just dont tell the parents or the proper authorities.

If so what and which school? you have no idea.this is the worst school system in the state.i would rather my daughter who is 10 go to a school in hazard,ky than hardin county.i have had social services and police called on my daughter.she is not a bad kid, just does not put up with doodee from anyone.........cant blame her.they have humiliated my daughter on numorous occasions in front of other faculty and students.the principal has called me and my girlfriend "uneducated" and tries to belittle us and my daughter.well i may not have a college degree, but i will guarantee this the principal and faculty might not want to get to cocky.wow there is so much to go on about.if i could arrange it,she would be going to E-town independent next year

Wow Meathead is right! Sounds like you need to do a little better parenting and not blame the school system for trying to teach an out of control child.

I love the "know it all" attitude by people on this thread. For instance, sounds like DEPENDS ON WHO has some really factual information on which to base her/his biased, prejudiced opinion of ALL the schools in this area. Must be nice to be so damn smart. I'm sure you and your family are just perfect. Thanks for such a detailed account of your "knowledge." Get a clue! Get a real source to your information - then post. If you're just repeating rumors and gossip from years gone by - then save the environment - and quit robbing oxygen!

HCS gets a bad rap because of the diversity of its population. It's larger - there are many more cultures and ethnicities included in this system. So there will be more issues then a smaller independent school district. However, if you want to prepare your child for the real world - then HCS is the place to be. If you want your precious child to live in a bubble and be shielded from reality - then send preciousness elsewhere.

One more thing - this is obviously a touchy subject - but......I think Etown schools are awesome! I'm not - in anyway - saying HCS is better. Many times opinions and rumors are spouted based on hearsay. We need to keep things in perspective based on demographics. HCS is a great system and EIS is, too. We're lucky to have both in this county.

Better parenting? people like you have taken that right away, no discipline or face jail or cps being called. i bet your kids, if a man would even sleep with your dumb a**, I bet you have no idea what dirty little secrets they have. The female is probably sucking off for money and the guy is probably smoking weed. So before you receive your parent of the year award, remember one thing, you can raise your kids one way however they chose their own path regardless of what you do. You wench.

To the people saying HCS picked out your child and picked on them or whatever, did you ever think maybe it is your kids fault. When you have that many kids at a school like HCS does then kids are going to pick on each other. Does that mean the kid getting picked on should instantly fight the other kid, no. The kid getting picked on should tell thier teacher or principal. And if a kid goes to school everyday, does thier schoolwork and homework, and does as thier told by the teachers they wont have problems. Kids need to understand they always dont get what they want. I graduated from central last year, and I cant tell you how many times a confict with a teacher or even anothre student could of been avoided if the kid would of just shut thier mouth and done as they were told.

We are indeed fortunate to have both school systems full of excellent educators, and like any system, a few bad eggs. I've worked in both systems and I would be happy with my grandchildren going to either system. There is some advantages that come with the small neighborhood setting of the city school district but there are many advantages to the larger system as well. Excellent educators in both.
